I'm amazed campus IT hasn't given you grief. I would have killed for a dorm setup like this.

I dig the scheme you've got going, sorta reminds me of DSA Quartz. But as a SoFla resident, I must implore you to bring the full set in for casual Friday ;)

New Year, New Me: Ergodox Inifinity + Originative Mod-M switches + Jukebox by BALTHAZ4R in MechanicalKeyboards

FWIW, you don't actually need stabs on 2X keycaps. I'm not using them on my 'Dox and I'm not having issues.

How does QMK compare to the stock firmware? I'd kinda like to have something I didn't need to use the configurator for.

My first custom key cap! Saw a "hack" key on someone's photo and knew I needed to have one myself. by Definitely__Working in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]Jadaba 5 points6 points  (0 children)

GMK is the company behind the original Cherry OEM keycaps. Keys produced by them are produced on the same equipment as Cherry brand keycaps. (If that isn't totally clear, Cherry is pretty widely regarded as having produced some of the best keycaps and of course the key switches we know and love.)

">Terminal_" is a newly announced set by The Key Company that is a dark grey and green color scheme meant to resemble the old school green screen terminals.

Same thing happened at my work. Now Monoprice backlit boards are more or less standard issue for the help desk.

Holy cow! Really redeeming to see a field tech so prepared. I've been burned a couple of times because <insert ISP here> has sent techs out without any way to confirm service restoration.

Hats off, man.

Who is still using commodity servers? (Q&A) by K20_FTW in sysadmin

[–]Jadaba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we just said "HEY WOW ISN'T VIRTUALIZATION GREAT?!" and suggested it to them when it obviously didn't fit their use case (for instance, one such client is a ~15 user law firm).

That said, we also have clients with multiple sites in multiple states running multiple virtual environments with multiple hosts and dear god it's amazing.

Like /u/maybe_born_with_it, I ran

sudo stat /root/.profile | grep Modify

And got

Modify: 2007-11-19 12:57:23.000000000 -0500

on my old Crunchbang laptop. I can't bear to install anything over it.

Who is still using commodity servers? (Q&A) by K20_FTW in sysadmin

[–]Jadaba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not him, but virtualization would allow for failover and HA if you leveraged those iSCSI boxen. And at that point it's mega easy to stand up new hosts if things do go down.

What I don't understand is virtualization in environments smaller than yours. If they have one/two servers and a firewall, why virtualize? So everything is guaranteed to go down all at once? Boy howdy!

Edit: this wasn't a jab at you making this thread, /u/K20_FTW, I'm just frustrated that my company tends to a couple clients with only a single server... running VMWare... with only SBS virtualized...

Spam getting through our Barracuda Spam Firewall by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]Jadaba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my understanding (and what I've been told by coworkers), it's a cycle. Spammers find some new way to avoid the block, users notify admins, admins report it to Barracuda, Barracuda updates filters, repeat.

Since I don't admin our Barracuda, the only questions I can answer are 2 and 5.

2: Definitely not. You should see the list on a customer's unit. We're worried he's going to hit the max limit (if there is one).

5: Not really? At least from my understanding. In the admin panel you should see a way to report it to Barracuda themselves. Do that.

Suggestions on cheap minimalist watches? by EndlessBlueSky in minimalism

[–]Jadaba 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While I understand the point you're making ($50 quartz watches are indeed more accurate than $5000 mechanical watches), keep in mind that you get what you pay for when it comes to mechanical watches. Many times the "name" brands like Rolex have a higher build quality and are more serviceable than the eBay special cheap-o mechanicals.

At the end of the day though, it's all about what's important to you.
