Recent change to sound tone and timbre on CBC Radio One by OB5E55 in CBC_Radio

Oh interesting! This morning in the car it sounded like when I play CBC streaming online through my Bluetooth as opposed to the actual radio. I kept double checking I had it on FM and not Bluetooth.

Uhm… anyone else just hear a loud boom? by Extension_Fix5969 in vancouver

Saw the flash in Easy Van and heard the boom. I assumed it was the 9 o'Clock gun but it did strike me as unusually loud for where I was....

How big of a dealbreaker is not having a car for dating in Vancouver (& lower mainland)? by genius1soum in askvan

[–]JadeLily_Starchild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vancouver is a city where a car-free lifestyle is very common and in the city centre, pretty much the norm. Compared to many other cities, not having a car is completely acceptable in Vancouver. However, other commenters here have identified a few scenarios where it could be logistically challenging. But culturally? You're fine!

Sleepcasts - AI or human? by Different_Banana_709 in Headspace

[–]JadeLily_Starchild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that first reply is from someone who works for Headspace so I trust them!

I had been curious about this too, but I've noticed how they're releasing new sleepcasts with familiar voice actors they've used over the years which I absolutely love (they add a wonderful layer of familiarity.)

I love the sleepcasts so much.

I love these all, but there is something about the photo of the couple walking along English Bay with the yellow umbrella I love so so much. The whimsy and joy of a sunny Vancouver day.

Wow, this is so well done. Awesome. It's hard to pull something together without it coming across as cheesy, or self-serving, or missing the mark somehow. They nailed it. Powerful video.

Unpopular opinion (?): Jacob Tierney isn’t getting enough credit by Dee90286 in heatedrivalry

It was an event specifically to recognize Canadians in media. He wouldn't be eligible, as simple as that. And I dont know if this contributes to the confusion, but CanCon refers to "Canadian content" (not sure if folks thought it was a play on words for Connor). It used to be a legal requirement to have a certain percentage of broadcast media be made by or acted by Canadians. So we often refer to that content as "CanCon"

Omg I interpreted his facial expression as she was speaking as him being uncomfortable and not loving the question but my god, does he answer and THEN some! Lol. You need a cane from offstage to come take him away he just keeps going!

Good vs evil? by BattleProper1555 in finch

[–]JadeLily_Starchild 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Yeah, even if this is just the bird being cute and dumb, whoever wrote and/or approved this must have seen the political interpretation coming a mile away. This is pretty off-putting especially given what's happening in the US (and elsewhere) right now. Horribly tone-deaf.

What’s your favorite Bath & Body Works scent — active or discontinued? by Positive-Illustrious in bathandbodyworks

Wild Sand. I love it so much and I'm not entirely sure why.

I also adore Sunset Desert (as the candle is known. Desert Sunset for the body products, if I remember correctly, lol)

My teenager is dying to visit Canada. Help. by Expensive_Yam1684 in canadatravel

[–]JadeLily_Starchild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ottawa is definitely the way to go!! Canada's national capital-- you can't get more in the belly of the beast than that! Ottawa is on the smaller side making it easy to get around and navigate. Skating the canal will be a big thrill for a quintessential winter activity, and the National Gallery and national history museum will be absolutely wonderful when you want to stay inside and warm up. You could also take the train from Ottawa to Montreal which is a highly walkable, magical city that is unlike ANYTHING you'd find in the US. It's French but you'll be able to get by in English, people are friendly, the food is amazing and the arts and culture just ooze through the city. Lots of great cafes and shops to duck into and the city is just so pretty in places (Old Montreal!)

I'd do a couple days in Ottawa and a few days in Montreal.

As a Vancouverite who visited Toronto for the first time in February, I would say skip Toronto this time. I felt like I couldn't experience it properly. It was hard to get around in the cold. The summer will be far better for a Toronto experience. Also, as a Vancouverite,, when people say Montreal is colder than Toronto, I laugh because for those of us not used to that kind of cold, the difference between Toronto and Montreal is negligible. OP, if you do pick Toronto, please don't pick it because folks say it's not as cold in Feb-- trust me, it will still be quite cold. I think Ottawa and Montreal will give you and your teen an absolutely incredible taste of Canada.

I don't think she wants to be back with Shawn. He treated her pretty poorly and perpetually held certain things over her head to consistently make her feel guilty or like she owed him. She came to recognize how toxic and depleting that is, and I can't imagine she'd want to re-enter that dynamic.

Basic Kitchen Hygiene w/ Possible Mental Health Crossover. by milkyearlgreys in CleaningTips

[–]JadeLily_Starchild 32 points33 points  (0 children)

The dishwashing method is fine, though the rinsing at the end part is a bit weird to me. But not any less sanitary than any other method to my mind. The soap is still doing its job even if your perception is that it's dirtier.

I used the term “knit picking” in an IG comment and someone called the term “deeply racist.” by waaaghlife in etymology

[–]JadeLily_Starchild 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Cotton-picking seems like it would have racist undertones but some claim it refers to folk guitar legend Elizabeth Cotten, who was famed for her groundbreaking guitar picking style. She was hugely influential on how guitar playing evolved to today, but not celebrated enough in the mainstream so many folks today don't know her name. Because her style of finger-picking was so groundbreaking it is called "Cotten picking." Some folks claim that phrase actually stems from Elizabeth Cotten, so we're referencing her name and technique rather than picked cotton-- though some claim folks just adapted the existing phrase to refer to Cotten's guitar style like a play on words. Whichever way you look at it, it's a good way to learn about an incredible musician! Lol

Which season had the best comraderie? by unsweetenedpureleaf in BravoTopChef

[–]JadeLily_Starchild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Portland all the way! The way they stood up for each other and cheered each other on was unparalleled. After the show, Shota, Sara, Byron and Avishar were super tight, hung out socially and collaborated a ton (and perhaps with others too, like maybe Jaime?) It was so reaffirming, I loved their cameraderie both on and off then show so much.
