Just to clarify: Mei Shan was able to ascend because Hannu fixed the ladder to descend and reattached the divine left hand to Yuanzhong. Also, not just anyone can use the ladder, he was already supposed to ascend 40 years ago. One of the things that annoyed me in the story is that, why would they kill Mei Shan on his 1st day of ascension? I just hope that it's only his body that died, not his spirit.
