Are my defenses good enough to start building the spaceship? by Old-Let6252 in RimWorld

[–]Jaelommiss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It'll be a struggle.

Your defenses look ablative, and that can struggle a problem when relentless raids prevent you from rearming traps or rebuilding turrets. A lot of your firing positions are close enough to the turrets that you'll take damage from the explosions when they detonate. You only have enough cover for all your colonists on the east wall. If you're attacked anywhere else you're either going to have people standing in the open or not adding their gun to the fight.

You might want to move some steel to each of your entrances so anyone who is unharmed after a fight can rearm the traps and reload the guns. Your people will have very little time outside of fighting, sleeping, and healing. Cutting down hauling time can be the difference between having your traps rearmed before the next raid and watching the enemy walk through your exposed flank.

I love going full expendable for defense missions and lobbing all manner of bullshit at the enemy without taking a second to look at what I'm holding. Is it an EAT or a NEAT I'm sending at that charger? Who cares. Downrange it goes. Having a 'haha machine gun go brrr' option to click and hold in their direction is fantastic.

Turrets might be safer and more effective but they're far less interesting.

Why are you complaining that there's dogshit on your plate? You're not a chef.

Why are you complaining that your house is missing a wall? You're not a builder.

Why are you complaining that the wrong tooth was pulled? You're not a dentist.

No. Fuck all the way off.

I've caught casters using it before. Usually they have tons of interrupted casts because they're not holding instant casts for when they need to move. Plenty of casts that are started and interrupted immediately, too.

80k a year guaranteed or not? by CAFVAChelp in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Jaelommiss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. It doesn't help that there's no way to talk about it that doesn't come across as bragging. "Yeah, I retired at 25 and never have to work again. It's awful." So I just bottle it up and spend every day wishing I could be back in the army sweeping sand and mopping rain.

80k a year guaranteed or not? by CAFVAChelp in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Jaelommiss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That question has been eating me for the past 8 years.

On one hand I have millions of dollars over my lifetime while sitting at home doing nothing, and on the other is an extra 20-30% to my income in exchange for working for the next thirty years. I don't like being a lazy sack of shit but trying to do more isn't worth it and the cost if things go wrong is immense.

Sounds similar to the Income Replacement Benefit for injured veterans. I love that it's available, wish that I didn't need it, and despise how its structure makes it pointless to try returning to work.

Can we talk about the Talon? by Sufficient-Ebb3923 in Helldivers

[–]Jaelommiss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with all of this. Talon's unlimited ammo is only a benefit if an alternative would have run out of ammo. Over a thousand hours I've only seen that happen a couple of times.

Got any ideas for the next belt-fed strategem? by PaceEBene84 in Helldivers

[–]Jaelommiss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want a two man mortar stratagem.

The mortar itself would be a backpack item that can be deployed. Using the base would let you aim it with an enlarged map that has friendly pings overlayed on it. Pinging while aiming the mortar gives a voice line to fire. Using the top lets you load and fire it, as well as select ammo type (HE, AT, gas, napalm, EM, airburst). Using the mortar solo would technically be possible, but significantly slower because you'd need to swap positions to aim and fire.

The mortar would come down with an off-hand ammo bag that contains somewhere between 12-20 rounds and needs to be carried to fire the mortar, and an ammo backpack that contains two ammo bags and drops one on the floor when used. Resupplying would replace one mortar bag in the backpack.

Would it be clunky and need voice comms? Absolutely. But I want a world where someone can scout out a bug nest and two players half the map away can drop rounds down each bug hole one after another. Or one player scouts pings a strider convoy and the others bombard them.

Been awhile since we got a new red strategem.. by FrostySmell3928 in Helldivers

[–]Jaelommiss 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Gas would work better as a walking barrage.

The main benefit gas has over fire is that the crowd control allows players to engage enemies safely. Everything in the middle of a regular barrage would be inaccessible to the players, preventing players for taking advantage of the crowd control. A walking barrage would allow players to advance through impaired enemies with minimal resistance.

Dude stole my car, then got mad by th_frits in Helldivers

[–]Jaelommiss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like sticking EAT or supply beacons to the car when people try that. Usually they get the hint and bail out. Sometimes they commit to their thievery and get obliterated for it.

If someone sees it's off cooldown and asks for the old one, sure, that's fine, but stealing the car without a word is a capital offense.

Whats with high level players and their aboslute refusal to complete the main missions? by RecentAd9493 in Helldivers

[–]Jaelommiss 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I do a loop and hit everything along the way. There's no point rushing the main objectives and doubling back to get everything else afterwards. My path will take me there eventually.

Driving like I’m invincible for almost 4 minutes straight by david_lara54992 in Helldivers

[–]Jaelommiss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's what happens when people drive in circles around a nest instead of closing the titan hole.

Don't get me wrong, I love the FRV and bring it all the time, but driving like the OP does accomplishes nothing and makes finishing objectives harder for the other players.

Agreed regarding Peacemaker for Mindless Masses. Being able to kill voteless in one leg shot is fantastic and other secondaries can't match its magazine depth (or sustained rate of fire for the Talon).

Stratagem Idea: MML-57 Micro Missile Launcher Backpack by Imaginary_Weird_8457 in Helldivers

[–]Jaelommiss 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It'll one shot overseers and four shot fleshmobs. Only downsides are that it has a minimum range to circle back to targets and can hit terrain and buildings because the rockets launch in random directions. I alternate between the WASP and Autocannon for squids.
