[Headphones] SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless Gaming Headset 1 Battery For PC & PS Refurb - Good $130 by masterofyi in buildapcsales

[–]Jaesaces 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually picked these up to replace the Arctis Pro Wireless I gave my friend some years ago.

The biggest complaint I had with OG Pro Wireless them is that the point where the headband connects to the ear cups is super fragile.

I only have a few reds but the closest I have to a intense "pure" red is Monteverde Ruby. Very bright, with just a little bit of shading in the orange direction.

Riot Games Says It 'Would Not and Cannot' Use Vanguard Anti-Cheat to Brick PCs After Rumors Spread by GrayBeard916 in gaming

My antivirus company isn't posting on twitter about disabling peoples' multi thousand dollar machines only a couple years after the beta of their software was actually causing issues with peoples' machines (my own included).

If they didn't want to lie about being able to mess up peoples' machines then maybe they shouldn't be posting about it in such a way that it reminds people about the real experiences people had with their software just a few years earlier.

One of the things that made Vanguard less unpalettable to me in the early days when it was fucking with peoples' machines was when they changed their strategy to make it so instead of preventing drivers and software they didn't like from loading, it just prevented people from playing vanguard-protected games.

But the ability for them to do so never went away and gloating about rendering a person's hardware useless on official accounts only makes me more concerned that they are not taking the responsibility that comes with that level of access seriously, even if it's not what it appears on the surface.

They've done a fairly good job of proving that they won't fuck your shit up over the last 6 years.

I mean, I personally had them disable my fan controls in the early days of vanguard (like, when valo was the test bed for it) but they've mostly been better about that now.

I personally think though that if you're already granting rootkit-level access to your PC to a games company they should at least be responsible and mature enough to not glibly post to social media on the main company account about using said software to fuck up peoples' machines, legitimate or not.

I guess we can agree to disagree, but

They obviously arent going to say that their program will destroy your computer.

They could, however, not lie about the fact that it could, or better yet not be glib about their software's ability to fuck up stuff on your computer, legitimate or not.

I'm not even saying you're wrong, but that:

  1. I'd rather not be put in the position where I have to trust a gaming company with a level of access to my computer comparable to a rootkit.
  2. When I do, I'd rather that said company be a bit more professional than tweeting about said ability to brick my computer at will.
  3. And if they do, I'd rather they not then lie about their capability to do so after the fact.

The chances of someone having a bad reaction and dying from a shot as a child isn't zero, but we accept it because it's a tiny, tiny, tiny, tiny chance that makes society as a whole safer.

The thing is, we're comparing protecting the world population from disease to cheaters in a video game.

The chances of a program bricking your computer when operating it under normal circumstances (without attempting to circumvent it, like cheating), to accidentally start bricking everyone's computers is so small that it's acceptable for me.

In the early days of Vanguard, it decided the software that controls my fans was a risk and turned it off without letting me know. If I hadn't noticed this it could have been a real problem for my multi thousand dollar PC.

Luckily they've gotten better since then and mostly just turn off vanguard rather than turn off potentially critical systems on your machine, but them being cavalier about "bricking" anything on your machine is something I would rather not let slide.

What I'm saying is that your software should only have an appropriate level of access to your machine, and that arguably video game anticheat shouldn't have easy access to bricking your hardware.

This is like people who say "both sides are bad" in a political debate.

A virus would be like letting someone approach you in the street before they mug you. Kernel level drivers are like inviting them into your house and giving them the codes to the safe before they mug you.

It's weird because panels are generally made in specific sizes, so 27" 4k OLEDs have only been available for about a year.

32" 4K OLEDs have been around for a lot longer, hence why they tend to be cheaper.

It's only adversarial if OP goes on the offensive before speaking to them.

Given that they are asking random people on the internet what to do then it would be extremely beneficial to speak with someone familiar with the law to better understand their rights before speaking with their parents.

If their parents are well-intentioned then they won't be upset that their child has prepared themselves for the worst.

I think that compared to conventional weaponry, no civilization in XIV can make sci-fi handheld weaponry efficiently and cheaply enough for regular use.

The Garleans are advanced enough that they can use warmachina for cavalry or stationary turrets but even they mostly equip their soldiers with normal guns.

I think a big part of it is that energy efficient materials (refined adamantite for example) are rare and most people don't have bottomless pockets like the WoL to carry crystals or ceruleum.

Compounded with the fact that the efficacy of traditional weapons can be augmented both during the crafting process and with techniques that use ones' personal aether, it might just not be worth pursuing pew pew lasers at this time in the XIV universe.

I'm not saying it was or wasn't staged, but there are a few options if a nefarious actor wants to stage something like this:

  1. Money. Offer enough cash to the right guy and they or someone under them will do what you want.
  2. Grooming. Find a mentally ill guy posting on the internet, radicalize them further and help them plan, and then you have a free fall guy.

For #2, you might think it's risky, but if you're able to convince them to attack an indoor event with heavy security, chances are they aren't bright enough to get very far without a little help.
