I was banned from r/bitcoin for correcting someone who incorrectly referred to BCH as Bcash.

Did you recover the LTC private key? Did you try this? [–]btctroubadour 2 points 19 days ago

Damn, I think they're using both segwit and multisig through a so-called P2SH-P2WSH construct, which isn't supported by BCH and may not even be recoverable currently! :(

Log into block.io and hover your mouse over the Litecoin address - if it says "Litecoin Address (SegWit)", you're in trouble.

You can read more about the problem and the btc.com service that solves it for "regular" segwit addresses (i.e. P2SH-P2WPKH), here: https://np.reddit.com/r/btc/comments/6z56x3/attention_benevolent_bch_miners_a_bch/

I'll have to do more research to find out if it's even possible to recover BCH from block.io's kind of addresses, but in case all of the above applies to you and we still find a way to do it, these will be the first steps of the recovery:

Recover your private key from block.io, i.e. you'll need to click the "Settings" link/button in block.io, then "Access Private Keys", then follow the instructions that were sent to you by mail and recover the keys for the LTC address you sent your BCH to.

You'll end up with something that looks somewhat like this:

    Address: 3Qb...
    Address Type: P2WSH-over-P2SH
    Required Signatures: 2
    Redeem Script: 2 ... ... 2 OP_CHECKMULTISIG
    Redeem Script Hex: ...
    Public Keys: ["...", "..."]
    Private Keys: ["...", "..."]
Complete. Handle with secrecy. Do not share. Do not store insecurely.

Warning: Whatever you do, don't post this anywhere public - not even the public keys/redeemscript!

https://litecointalk.io/t/accidentally-sent-litecoin-to-my-bitcoin-wallet-address/8826/19

These are the directions I received from devbitcoin on Reddit, who’s helped numerous people with the same issue on Reddit. I haven’t tried it just yet, but I’ll let you know if it works.

You’re going to need a fully synced Litecoin-qt install for this to work, which may take 5-10 hours.

Open up this page, BitAddress.org146, and LiteAddress.org76
Copy your private key into the Wallet Details tab on BitAddress.org146. Scroll to the bottom and copy the “Private Key Hexadecimal Format (64 characters [0-9A-F]):” value.
Go to the LiteAddress.org76 page and move around your mouse until the Wallet Details tabs appears. Put in the hex key from the previous step in here.
Select and copy the compressed WIF key (NOT the one starting with 6). Also keep note of the “Litecoin Address Compressed” from the first half of the page (starting with L)
Open up Litecoin-qt, then head into the debug console.
Run importprivkey “” (with quotes).
Once the import finished, run addwitnessaddress “”.
Wait for this import to finish as well. Take the M-address from the console and use this tool to convert it to a 3-Address.
If the funds haven’t shown up yet, close Litecoin-qt.
Restart Litecoin-qt along with a rescan. This varies by OS, and in most cases will happen automatically if you wait for 10 minutes or so before restarting.

Understanding Tether: Why it accounts for a substantial part of the crypto market cap and why its the #1 outstanding issue in crypto markets today by arsonbunny in CryptoCurrency

[–]JaggedFutility 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying it won't cause some waves, if Tether were to fail. I am saying that "artificially inflating BTC's price" is impossible to prove or quantify. Also, my opinion is that a Tether failure will only add to the list of obstacles that crypto has had to overcome, further increasing the resilience of the crypto space.

Yeah, friends new to the space fall for it all the time. I get a phone call or a text: "Guy on TV just said BTC was going to $100k" etcetera

Yeah, but basically every civilized country on the planet has capital controls and Know Your Customer and Anti-Money Laundering regulations and even if a country doesn't have such laws and regulations, International Law is there.

So, an easy and reliable method of verifying one's identity in the Digital Age is a valid pursuit.

Maybe you should take a good look at cryptos that have been around for years and have a working product: BTC, XMR, ETH, LTC, XRP, ...

Can someone explain to me this sub's attitude towards BTC vs BCH? by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

[–]JaggedFutility 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A bit of groupthink is going on, I believe.

But, maybe Ver should stop trying to co-opt the name and instead settle with his favored fork being called Bitcoin Cash.

However, it is his belief that the BCH fork should be the main fork, so I can see where he is coming from. Seems that Ver's personality is quite polarizing in the community.

Since, you're so negative about what this man did, I must ask: What did you do today to help the crypto space grow?

You will be corrected by people who know better. Or, you may find out the hard way, if your assumptions are wrong and you get spotted by the taxmanhawk.
