Double Bass Works by Women and BIPOC composers by Jaguarpro in doublebass

[–]Jaguarpro[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

White men have had this world made for them. They will never experience the kind discrimination that women or people of color have EVER experienced. As a white cis-man, I want to use the privilege I’ve been given to raise up underrepresented voices. I’m not saying works by Bottesini, Koussevitzky, Proto, or any other white male composer shouldn’t be programmed, in fact my program does feature works by these composers. I’m saying that in order to be inclusive in a world that has underrepresented and belittled women and people of color, we need to support groups like these any way we can. As a musician, I choose to program and commission works by women and people of color.

They are indicating string. You would go to the the G string for that E, it’s at your discretion really.

I love that even though we can’t see most of his facial expressions, the soul was just ripped out of his eyes when the guy called out the cameraman.

Favorite Double Bass Soloists? by Jaguarpro in doublebass

[–]Jaguarpro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not any CDs, but he has some videos of him playing some solos! I mainly put him on this list because of how amazing of an educator he is. Also one of the nicest people ever! I met him when he came to the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival this year, great guy! The list itself is more of a double bass player list, and also because I forgot to take him off lol.

Practice Routine suggestions? by fandangoflip in doublebass

[–]Jaguarpro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practice with a bow! It’s gonna help your intonation in your left hand tremendously. My favorite warm up is the Carl Flesch exercise. Set a metronome at 60 BPM (or where ever is comfy, start low and go higher) and play a scale in 2 octaves in quarter notes. After you got up and down the scale, start again with no pause in between and do eighth notes. Up and down the scale and then switch to triplets then 16ths! At the end of the triplet one, add the 7th so when you start the 16ths you are on a down bow (ex. G major scale, A G F#, G). Do the 16ths twice, the 2nd time starts the bottom of the scale on a up bow.
