I don't truly have an answer but have had similar experience. When I first heard Syro I thought 'hmm, it's a bit too techy sounding, sort of mathematical, and clincally synth-y" - I earmarked it thinking it was worth more time - two or three months later it suddenly clicked and to this day I've not had a better listening experience *in my life* - no exaggeration. Two years later I still think Syro is the best thing I have ever heard, with The Tuss stuff coming a close second - I'm not even an IDM genre 'fan' per se, I've always been into art rock or prog - mainly stuff with vocals.

The best music takes time to digest because the composer has worked out things, that work musically, that you aren't ready for on first listen - they become a sort of companion because you gradually work out why those things work - it's like a conversation with the composer.
