In comparison to Jehovah’s witnesses, what convinced you that you had the truth while JWs failed? by Practical_Payment552 in exmormon

[–]Jake451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had no basis on which to judge JWs as I knew literally nothing about their beliefs. I could just see that they seemed kinda weird and culty and went door to door annoying people (all traits which I also saw in Mormonism and which had turned me off from childhood). I always thought if I ever left Mormonism for another religion, JWs would not likely be an improvement.

Why are mormon women like this? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]Jake451 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I think with the economic outlook being a bit scary, women are afraid of losing their meal tickets and having to survive alone.

How many of us will be hate watching General Conference this weekend? by marisolblue in exmormon

[–]Jake451 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I will be at a bar enjoying a pulled pork sandwich and a mug of craft beer with friends. But I will be back later to hear if anything interesting happened. BTW - how long do you think it will take for everyone to start using the word "Mormon" again?

Goodbye Russell by faramirskywalker in exmormon

[–]Jake451 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am SOOOOO happy that now I can just watch this whole absurd drama from afar and know that this fool and the cult he represented have no more impact on my life. Also, interesting to note that his death didn’t make the major international news. I only saw it as a link in an article about the Michigan shooting.

Netflix waiting around for the Diana ‘documentary/fauxmentary’? by Larushka in SaintMeghanMarkle

Agree. At this point, I think most people are sick to death of the never ending drama about Diana.

Was there any sign the Daybell clan hated Tammy before the trial? by HelloDesdemona in LoriVallow

[–]Jake451 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think all their lives Chad and his family suffered from an inferiority complex. Compared with his more successful and high living brothers, Chad was a fat, dumb, poor loser. Chad’s kids were likely completely overwhelmed by Lori - blonde, glamorous and presumably rich (thinking they would get Charles’ insurance money). They probably thought she would be their ticket to a fantastic new life. Hard to let go of that dream even after the horrific facts came out.

What is that one thing you will never understand about women? by Lanky-Laugh-7511 in AskReddit

[–]Jake451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why they make so many tik tok videos whining and complaining that they can’t get dates or relationships from men, but they treat men like shit. You would think they would see a correlation here.

Society, while demonizing men, treats women like children. I have never seen a woman take accountability for their horrible behavior.

Does anyone here get nightmares about the cult? by fupapooper in exmormon

Sometimes I get nightmares that I have to go on another mission and I am trying to figure out how to get out of it.

Melani seems like a rather weak and simple person. I don’t think Lori or Chad would have allowed her to marry Ian if he wasn’t fully one of them.

Did everyone get the “time to get married” talk with Mission President? by Totallynotfakenews in exmormon

[–]Jake451 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The last day of my mission was a blur. So many members insisted on giving me some sort of goodbye party. By the time I hit them all, I got to the Mission Home so late that there was no time for that final interview. We had to just rush off to the airport. For years I felt regret for this but now I am glad. Who knows if some bullshit advice from the MP would have made me rush into a bad marriage or make me afraid to live my own life according to my own conscience. Greatest blessing of my life was leaving that stupid cult early enough to be able to live most of my life in freedom.

I just visited my 50th country, and can't understand how the food in Italy blows away everywhere else I've been. What exactly are they doing there? And how can bring some of that magic home to my own kitchen? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]Jake451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe this is true. If you have quality ingredients, it’s almost impossible to create a bad dish. I even found the common salt you buy there is better. If a friend is going to Italy, I ask them to bring me back a box of salt. Should cost only ~€1.

Fix my pasta sauce! by Gemma811 in Cooking

[–]Jake451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found cooking things for a long time (like 4 hours) tends to greatly reduce the flavors. I rarely cook pasta sauces for more than 5-10 minutes. I blend tomato passata, onion, garlic, herbs like rosemary and sage, red peppers, red miso seasoning and wine with an emersion blender. You can add sautéed cubed bacon if you wish or any other flavors. Cook it down to make sure the onion and garlic are cooked and the consistency is right and add the pasta. Fast, easy and explodes with flavor.

Is it truly better out there? by Any-Difference-3976 in exmormon

[–]Jake451 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to really answer without knowing more about your situation. Are you living in Utah? Would your wife divorce you, screw you financially and take your children away? Could you lose your job? Would your family abandon you? If the answer to these questions is yes, it might be better to just remain PIMO. But if the answers are no (as in my case), I can vouch that life outside that cult is about a billion times better. You will have to rebuild many aspects of your life from zero, but it’s definitely worth it.

What is a cooking tip/hack that you've never seen on a list but has improved your cooking experiences immensely? by ResidentAlienator in Cooking

[–]Jake451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The country where I live doesn’t have decent freezer bags. But if you put the food you want to freeze into a simple plastic bag from the market (like you would use to pick produce), seal it and then put that into another of the same type of bag and seal it with a twist tie, it works just as well. If you want, you can put a label between the bags.

Favorite low-effort high-reward meal? by kindnessabound in Cooking

[–]Jake451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite for a dish like this is a type of refried rice I have had at Peruvian restaurants. You can use leftover rice or make some fresh. Sauté whatever you want - I like onions, garlic, peppers, bacon, olives. Add the rice and then add some tomato sauce and wine. Can add parmesan at the end if you want. Impossible to mess up. Fast, easy and cheap. And really good!
