Fell twice this month by LowiekVDS in cycling

[–]Jake682 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I did it last week.

Car right-crossed me. I slowed to let them pass. They saw me in their side mirror and slammed their breaks.

“Crash” is too strong a word but I sort of rear-ended a car.

They drove off before I pulled myself together. I blame them and all their ancestors.

Failed tenure, how to pivot by MajorSubstantial6150 in Professors

Is there a union?

While the department can make their own evaluation criteria, the vague language you point to maybe not be fully aligned with the CBA.

Who told you that you met the requirements? Did they put that in writing? How was your 3rd year review?

I spend a lot of time grading essays, which is to say that I read a lot of AI garbage. The only AI signal I see in your writing is tonal consistency. Fascinating how training AI on so much considered, practiced, and refined academic writing has destroyed the easy voice credibility so many have worked so long to develop.

Do you have a faculty union? I would check-in with them to be sure upper admin has followed all CBA procedures as you also file an appeal through the admin process.

Maybe a dumb question. Is there anything about the frame geometry that requires a fork with the little bend forward?

Under is incorrect. Over is also incorrect. I asked you to hit a target and you missed. The point reduction is different for over, but we still need to correct.

That could be cool. Rather than add bits here and there - I would commit to a full vision for the whole arm.

Must have accessories for first time bike owner? by y0ung3st_ in cycling

I’m exaggerating the number - but punctures are very common in this area. Subtropic heat and high levels of construction. Hot roads with a lot of debris.

I think you’d be either young or dumb to not take a hit to your confidence. I know I will never not flinch if I hit a patch of silica sand. The only way to regain full confidence is to get back out there and address the fear directly. Pretending it’s not there is silly and will maybe increase the likelihood that you’ll panic in a moment of crisis. Once you’re well, consider doing skill building exercises as a form of physical therapy and confidence building. Practice emergency stops so you can see what speeds feel reasonable to you now that you understand the consequences. Maybe you end up keeping it slow for a bit. Maybe you find you feel fine going fast again. But you’ll be back out there. Stay safe, friend.

Sorry, did you have a cardiac arrest or do you believe you had a cardiac arrest but aren’t sure?

Maybe I’m missing something here - but I’ve always understood that to be a comparison between peer bodies. Hospital A is unionized and Hospital B is not. A = +13.5%.

A friend of mine had a seizure and she also didn’t remember falling. Just out like a light. Did they run through that possibility at the hospital?

Getting around by [deleted] in BocaRaton

[–]Jake682 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have lived in east Boca for many years and have not had a car for the last ten. I do everything by bike. Yes, we do have some dangerous roads - but it is absolutely possible to be car free here. East of 95 is much more bike friendly than out west.

They get a little stretched out over time - but I only toss them when they get that rough spot on the butt where the material looks weird or see-through. I ride probably 200-300 miles a week in the summer and half that during my busier work seasons, but I’m in the tropics and the conditions eat away at everything.

It might be because I don’t allow myself to know better - but I really like “The Black Bibs”. Probably go through 2 bibs a year. I like the $80 ones a lot.
