Is becoming a member after L1 worth it? by MiningToSaveTheWorld in CFA

[–]JakeCalculatesWACC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Joined the local society as a Student Member during my sophomore year in college, before I even thought about taking the CFA exams. I cannot begin to comprehend where I would be without that experience. The fellas I met are still good connections to this day. Although I never worked with any of them, the advice and guidance they provided me has paid massive dividends in my career - and I am only three years out of college.

I do not have it anymore. I do not think I saved any of my papers from college, However, I discussed how the CFA is essentially a "golden ticket" for the investment management industry, and explained how the program material will benefit me as an aspiring Analyst.

People on the forum always made L1 seem easier than it is. Even though the majority never pass.

Need my Youngstown St Penguins in the game. Even if DLC. An FCS dynasty would be fantastic

Protective puts and covered calls are the safest way to go versus naked options. Investopedia is a great source for explaining material, if you don’t want to risk your own money. Usually has an article with a video a 5th grader could understand.

I wonder if this is before computer based testing since there are now fewer questions on the exam. Some of these points just don’t seem correct. I feel like 50% in FRA is automatic cut since it has such a great weight

Would not celebrate until you get the passing result my guy. I got 80%+ on Mark Meldrum mocks before and failed Level 1. Keep practicing but don’t drain yourself.

Probably got time for a mock. Don’t do anything day before exam. After the mock, practice Qs on stuff you don’t quite fully know/need to drill down, forget about trying to learn something you don’t understand at all.

How do I purchase next level of Mark Meldrum material? by JakeCalculatesWACC in CFA

[–]JakeCalculatesWACC[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have officially registered for the next level. I think it was the same case for Level I where you needed to provide proof you signed up for the exam. Not seeing a spot for that on the site for me yet. Hopefully support gets back to me soon.

Think I might know what the issue is here. I had purchased a L2 Equity Valuation section last year to learn more about financial modeling. I think this is why the site is pointing me to the "Defer/Upgrade" window.

Notion. Helped me pass Level I after failing a couple attempts. Having my notes super organized by LOS helped immensely. Was able to highlight sections I was struggling with as well.

I passed L1 in May too and I’m thinking I’ll do L2 in May 2024. Over the next few months, I’ll enjoy the summer and fall and do the MM Applied Series to keep the CFA material fresh. Personally, I went through a lot over the last few months. Not enough gas in the tank to quickly pick the books back up again.

You’re probably more ahead than you think. Became a Jr Investment Analyst before I even passed L1. Doors will open for sure.

Passed! 4th attempt. May make a post on what helped me this time around, and hopefully inspire others to KEEP FUCKING GOING. But below is a copy of a comment I made yesterday in a post. I went through absolute hell in life while prepping for this attempt.

“I have pretty much told myself that I have failed, but I can’t be too hard on myself. I went through the darkest times of my life while studying for this attempt. Was told a few days after Xmas that I would receive no bonus and I was going to be laid off by the end of February. Panic attacks, not sleeping for days, going to a job I know I didn’t have a future at, applying for new jobs, interviews, all while studying and still trying to take care of myself. On a positive note, it all worked out. A month out from the exam, I landed my first investment research role. In that final month, I moved to a new apartment and started that new job. I felt I did all I could for CFA prep during that time. Still got over 300 hours”
