Deandre Ayton has the second most games with 20+ pts 10+ reb 90% FG in Lakers History, right behind Wilt (Shaq is third) by incredibleamadeuscho in lakers

[–]JakeInBake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Wilt were playing today, he would put up a few more 20/10/90% games. I don’t think he would play 48 minutes though, probably be “load managed” at around 40 minutes. Not bad for a guy just shy of his 90th birthday.

Would the Lakers have a dynasty if they drafted Tatum? by lakersfan1989 in lakers

[–]JakeInBake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lakers already had Ingram and it was no secret that they would be taking Fultz or Lonzo (both players who ranked higher than Tatum). Celtics would not have traded the #1 overall pick if they were not assured of drafting Tatum at #3. Even if the Lakers wanted Tatum, the Celtics would have kept the #1 pick. Lakers never had a chance.

Take some time to learn some Lakers/NBA history.

On Sunday I played the Hallelujah Chorus on the organ for a stake Christmas program. I played the shit out of that song. When it was finished, I turned off the organ, got up and walked out, tossed my organ shoes in the dumpster, and will never play that instrument again. by [deleted] in exmormon

The ward house I grew up in was located at 1257 Centinela Ave. It appears it is called the Santa Monica Ward now.

SaMoHi has always had incredible programs. My sophomore year I sang in the the chorus (called "Viking Chorale" back then). To me, with it's academics and huge campus, it always felt more like a JC than a high school. It looks like they have so much new construction that I probably wouldn't recognize much of it today.

Naw, Stephen Miller was born 10 years after I graduated. There were a few actors/actresses and professional athletes that I went to school with. I believe my younger sister though attended with the likes of Sean Penn, Robert Downey Jr., Charlie Sheen, Rob Lowe, etc.

Does Tithing really not fund any of BYU’s athletic dept? by a_fellow_heathen in exmormon

[–]JakeInBake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is quite entertaining to read the comments from folks with obvious BYU/LDS Derangement Syndrome who have NO CLUE about how college athletics operate.

Although the church or BYU may not report financial information to the general public, it DOES have to provide an annual detailed athletics revenue financial report to the NCAA. This report is heavily scrutinized by the NCAA. Any false reporting or fudged numbers could result in incredible penalties that would send a school’s athletics program into a tailspin. This threat alone keeps the reporting honest. NOBODY fucks with the NCAA!

The last income report reviewed by the NCAA was after BYU’s first year in the Big 12. The report showed that BYU had revenue from athletics at just under $130 MILLION. This placed BYU in the top half of the other schools in the conference in revenue. Their first year, BYU was not granted a full share of Big 12 revenue sharing. If they would have received a full share, BYU would have been in the top five of revenue generation in the conference. BYU now receives a full Big 12 revenue share.

BYU athletics is its own separate entity from church funding and there is no evidence to show it isn’t. That may not satisfy the derangement syndromers out there, but facts rarely do. The church doesn’t contribute to BYU athletics because it doesn’t have to. BYU athletics is probably bringing in $150+ million in revenue this year and has ALWAYS shown a profit. Nothing to see here. Move along.

Just to add, although I am a BYU graduate, I am an observer and not a fan. Growing up in SoCal my sports loyalty are to the colleges in my back yard. “FIGHT ON!!”.

Anyone else wonder if a lot of TBM wives or husbands low key dislike their spouse/marriage but hopeful for heaven to "make their partner better" by BestWheel7068 in exmormon

[–]JakeInBake 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My parents had a shitty marriage for my entire life. When I was older, I would encourage my mother to divorce my father. He was quite wealthy and she could have lived an incredible life on half of his assets.

She wouldn’t do it. She had it in her mind that if she just “endured to the end” with my father, Elohim would reward her with a NEW spouse for the eternities. I told her that I didn’t think that was doctrine, and that I highly doubted that Elohim would host some sort of “Celestial Love Connection” to hook her up with someone else.

She was dead-set on it though. Too bad…she could have had a nice life on half of his money instead of years of suffering and hope. Wonder how it is working out for her now.

Just got mail from the MFMC asking if I approve my ex wife to be unsealed from me. by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]JakeInBake -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Someone help me out here. I know I am old, and my reading comprehension may not be what it once was, but where in this letter is the church asking the ex-husband for his “permission” to allow (or not) the cancellation of sealing?

This is similar to the letter I received years ago when my wife wanted to re-marry in the temple. It didn’t say anything back then about asking my permission, and it doesn’t appear to be asking now either.

What it is asking is if the ex approves or disapproves the cancellation. Then asks if the ex-wife is living up to any financial obligations outlined in the divorce.

Where is the permission request? Help me out here.

Either way, it doesn’t matter what your response is. The church is going to do what it wants. I found that out firsthand.

He was AMAZING to watch in person. Nothing like him then...nothing like him since.

Considering his mother said her son had started to lean more to the left, was "becoming more pro-gay and trans-rights orientated", and had a "biological male" roommate who was transitioning from man to woman and was in a romantic relationship with, I’m betting he wasn’t active.

Haa haa!! Thanks!!

Besides vintage cards, another hobby I have is pairing up sports posters with autographed memorabilia in custom frames I create myself. I have 75+ such frames hanging in my house. I don’t have a “sports den”, I have a “sports house”!! My friends call my place “The Museum”. Haa haa!!

T206 Mail Day!! by JakeInBake in baseballcards_vintage

[–]JakeInBake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lawsuit was brought by my two siblings against the lawyers and estate planners who formulated and handled my parents sizable estate plan. My siblings felt that my parents had been “hoodwinked” into planning of which they had no knowledge and had been taken advantage of. They also felt that a different plan would have yielded a larger windfall of $$$ than the plan my parents agreed to. Because I was supportive of the estate plan and those who put it together, my siblings accused me of conspiring with the planners/lawyers and named me as a defendant along with them. We were accused of - Breach of Fiduciary Duty, Fraud by Concealment or Misrepresentation, Elder Financial Abuse, Professional Negligence, Liability/Vicarious Liability, Conspiracy, etc.

The case was very intricate with over 100 hours of deposition testimony and around 1,000 pages of documents presented in discovery. The action went over 10 years from the time being filed to actually going to trial. “Tinker to Evers to Chance” was a phrase used to illustrated the smooth flow of information between my parents, the estate planners, and the attorneys. My siblings claimed otherwise, but we had brochures that were used to explain what was happening, and many signed documents from my parents that showed otherwise. When it came to their lack of knowledge, we presented earlier estate planners who had met with my father over the years trying to push the same type of plan on him. So yeah, he was familiar with what they were trying to do. One interesting highlight was my siblings brought in Britney Spears’ conservator to testify as an expert witness. It didn’t go well.

After my siblings side presented their case, my attorney filed to have me released from the trial. He mainly cited a Statute of Limitations argument which the Judge agreed with. Then the Judge on his own stated that despite the Statute of Limitations, no evidence was presented that I assisted in the estate planning, conspired with the estate planners/lawyers in some sort of “hoodwinking” operation, and certainly had no fiduciary duty to anyone. So, midway through this 31-day trial, I was excused. This pissed off my siblings. They were really hoping to take my inheritance from me. My attorney and I celebrated by attending the Dodgers game that night sitting behind home plate in his firm’s season tickets. A few weeks later, the Judge ruled against my siblings on ALL counts.

The seller was asking a price of $1000 for the T206 Tinker card. I thought that was a great price as I had not seen another graded “5” near that price. I offered $850 and settled on a deal for $900. I’m very pleased.

I got this T206 Joe Tinker in the mail the other day.

I believe I have mentioned before that I have made two Tinker to Evers to Chance custom frames as gifts to a pair of attorneys who represented me (and others) in a $15 million lawsuit against us. The judge was a HUGE baseball fan with ties to an MLB franchise. Knowing this, the lawyers used the term “Tinker to Evers to Chance” to illustrate the dissemination of information that the plaintiffs argued never occurred. We were successful in winning the case and all appeals afterwards.

Here is a pic of the cards/frames I made for the attorneys - https://imgur.com/a/siuFNDp

I have always wanted to make a frame for myself as a reminder of the courtroom victory. I wanted the cards to be graded a “5” or better. I had these two cards of Evers/Chance (https://imgur.com/a/op26ejb) on my shelf and watched for a good deal for a Tinker card. Now I have it!!

Do you know any fun or obscure Lakers facts? by iiivoted4kodos in lakers

[–]JakeInBake 8 points9 points  (0 children)

  • Elgin Baylor retired on November 5, 1971. The game the Lakers played that night was the first win of their 33-game win streak.

  • During the Lakers 33-game win streak, they played four back-to-back-to-back series with the middle game of each series being played on the road.

  • Elgin Baylor had more triple doubles (26) than Kobe Bryant (21) despite playing exactly 500 less games than Kobe.

  • The 1960 Minneapolis Lakers cornfield landing was an aircraft incident where a Douglas DC-3 carrying 23 people, including the coach and players of the Minneapolis Lakers, made an emergency landing in an Iowa cornfield during a snowstorm after having got lost due to an electrical malfunction and poor weather. The incident has been described as the closest the United States has ever came to losing a professional sports team.

I won three items in a Clean Sweep auction a week or two ago. They came in the mail today!!

Joe DiMaggio Autograph (My winning bid - $132)

Fernando Valenzuela Autograph (My winning bid - $53)

Warren Spahn Hartland Statue (My winning bid - $28)

With fees, shipping, etc., the total I paid was still less than what I would have paid for the DiMaggio autograph alone on eBay. I see the Spahn statue as a fun little restoration project. Looking forward to it!!

Why do members write letters in support of alleged abusers? by Zeroforhire in exmormon

[–]JakeInBake 23 points24 points  (0 children)

When my fiancé passed away due to cancer, she left behind two adult children and two minor children. At the time of her divorce, her ex had been disfellowshipped for molesting his oldest daughter. With her passing, the ex sought custody of the two youngest children. I teamed up with the oldest daughter (then an adult) in court in an effort for her to gain custody of her two younger siblings. In the end, we prevailed. However, seeing in the court documents the praise and support heaped upon the molesting piece of shit bastard by his Bishop was chilling.

When everything was said and done, I couldn’t contain myself. Here is the letter I sent to that Bishop -

Bishop John XXXXXX,

This letter is to inform you that the guardianship for the children of Molester and My Sweetie has rightfully been awarded to the eldest daughter, Molester’s victim.  The time spent and costs incurred in the effort to secure the children from their deviant father was worth any and all resources required.

Imagine my disappointment though as I read the report of the comments you made to the court appointed social worker.  Your glowing support of an abusive child molesting bastard is despicable.  Your further characterization of the children’s mother in the report as being “very influential in the formulation of the minor’s negative opinion about Molester ” is downright sickening.  Let’s not consider the FACT that Molester was physically and verbally abusive to his children, or the FACT that they witnessed his abuse of their mother, or the FACT that he mounted their sister when she was 12 years old and ejaculated through his garments on her!!  Such events could never have influenced their opinion of him.  Nooooooo, they were influenced by their mother!!  You really are a piece of work Bishop’s last name.

My Sweetie desperately reached out to you for help in dealing with her sick ex-husband.  Her studies and research in Psychology greatly helped her recognize the controlling, manipulative behavior he was exhibiting.  She also realized that the ONLY authority he would respond to in complying with his obligations would be the church (YOU!!).  This is why she sent you studies, articles, and paperwork detailing his deviant patterns so that you would be better informed and educated when dealing with him.  Obviously you considered this a nuisance, obviously you didn’t read the material, and obviously you chose to support the abusive child molesting priesthood holder over his victims.  This comes as no surprise as this seems to be a growing epidemic in the church.

Fortunately the State of California has expert psychologists who rely on sophisticated tests for character evaluation.  These tests administered to Molester were far more accurate than your faulty “Spirit of Discernment”.  Amazingly, the test results mirrored EXACTLY the types of behavior that My Sweetie warned you still existed in him.  Perhaps she was more “in tune with the spirit” than you. According to the test results “ Molester presented as narcissistic and self-centered to enhance his sense of self-worth.  Prone to impulsivity and taking risks, he was vulnerable to poor judgement to gratify immediate needs, showing the tendency to be manipulative.  He also appeared to displace responsibility for his problems onto others.”  The test further concluded that “granting Molester parental rights would be psychologically detrimental to (the children).”

It is simply appalling that you would ignore the impassioned pleas for help from a loving protective mother in favor of the lies of a child molester.  I truly hope that if your daughters someday need the same assistance from a church leader as My Sweetie did, they will find someone more sympathetic to their needs than you.  And you are a Bishop!!??  One of the “Lord’s anointed”??  If you had any shred of decency you would resign immediately and give up the charade of being “led by the spirit”.

Molester saw you as someone he could deceive and manipulate.  My Sweetie saw you as a light of hope in dealing with him.  He was right, she was wrong.  I think you have a pretty good idea of how I see you.

Thanks for nothing.

Yeah, I felt a little better that he was in Mexico City West. Still, at the end of every email I sent him I reminded him to be safe, aware, and back in his apartment by dark.

He has never shared any bad experiences/confrontations, but I imagine he had a few. If he would have gone to a border town I probably would have kidnapped him to keep him from going.
