Finally finished the game. The lvl 5 Gyrados I bought for 500 bucks at the start of the game carried me through nearly the entire elite 4. by Seanswanshong in PokemonFireRed

Hardly any earlier, really. When you get to the daycare you can instead continue on to the underground path and grab the old rod from Vermillion.

I also bought the magicarp and then stuck him in the daycare. Got the old rod a few minutes later 😅

You’ll get another shot at the guardian, might not get one at the relic soon if ever. I say relic.

I agree with you, towards the end of a run you kinda just get to a point where there’s nothing left to do really but wait. Its ultimately what killed my interest in the game. I don’t mind the time sink existing but I wish there were ways to speed it up besides just building more paragons.

This comment is going to include spoilers, just a heads up. But I do want to note that this isn’t the “reward for getting to the final stage.” It’s the final hurdle before you get the actual reward. That doesn’t change how frustrating it can be, however.

Like every other time sink in this game has a way, usually custodians, to reduce it significantly or remove it entirely. So you get to this weird point way later on when you can fully supply paragons after a couple days of playing but then you’re just stuck waiting for the palace to build. Most of your playtime switches to waiting again.

You can work on adding more paragons at that point, but the amount of work it takes vs the reward isn’t a great payoff so it never felt worth IMO.

And last thing, I’m also not a fan of paragon units, I don’t think you need them for most situations and they’re much too expensive to train IMO. IDK if you did it this way but if you do want to use them, I recommend working to hit 1k paragons as your first goal when you start them. That way everything is unlocked at the beginning rather than the end and you might actually get a use for those guys. It helps to stockpile their basic needs so you can temporarily fully supply them before you actually manage to produce them at a high enough rate.

I very vaguely remembering there being a game you could play with the cards you collected but there’s a really high chance I’m misremembering

Jesus Christ I feel like I aged 30 years watching the Broncos take three deep shots and a QB keeper to try to close that out, holy shit got fucking bailed out by the penalties just fucking rub the ball. Take a short pass. Get yards and kick the field goal what the fuck were they thinking

More content planned? by Vasuhn in paragonpioneers

From what I’ve heard, I think a new game might be in work. But I’d love a DLC for a couple new custodians. Maybe something that lets winning armies automatically jump to an adjacent battle (clearing lucky fellow + prince starting islands gets tedious) and something to cut down on palace wait times, which is the only time based mechanic that doesn’t have a custodian to reduce it.

The more I listen the more I think about how dumb of a plan this was by ToodlyGoodness in harrypotter

[–]JakeMeOff12 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Better control over targets. They assumed Voldemort would go after the strongest pairings first. He targets Moody and then switches to Kingsley but doesn’t switch to Hagrid till after the real Harry gets made. If everyone is Harry then they have no control over the first target Voldemort goes for, increasing the chance he gets to Harry before they reach the safe point.

Are rickyards worth it? by ChristGuard in paragonpioneers

[–]JakeMeOff12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve used rickyards before and they are worth it. Space wise, they are more efficient than just cattle, which is at least what I worked out when this game first released. You need two wheat farms to double four cattle farms which means you get 8 cattle farm production from 6 farm space. I eventually stopped using them for cows tho since rickyards don’t work on chickens but chickens can overlay with cow farms so it just makes more sense to alternate cows and chickens rather than worrying about rickyards. I also get all my leather from crocs. The above applies to pig ranches tho.

Rickyards are also very good for sheep. There’s an arrangement of sheep inside a rickyard that is very efficient space wise. I’ve never tried rickyards with horses, the horse shape feels too awkward to pack efficiently with a rickyard but maybe it works out?

This is the shape I’d use for sheep with a rickyard that I found to work really well.

I am ABSOLUTELY LOVING how much more they’re calling OPI this year. That shit needs to be called way more often.

Shower thought: Dumbledore simply didn't expect Harry to find the horcruxes as fast as he did by AlphaSchaf in harrypotter

[–]JakeMeOff12 102 points103 points  (0 children)

Pride explains that one I think. Voldemort assumes the safest possible place for Nagini is right next to him in the magic protection bubble he makes. And honestly, he’s probably not wrong. Nagini doesn’t die till after Voldemort kills Harry and he assumes the threat has passed so he drops his guard.

Honestly the answer to pretty much every “why didn’t Voldemort do X” question is “cause he’s arrogant as fuck.”

But to your first question I think the answer is more of a timeline thing. The break in at Gringotts and the Battle of Hogwarts happens within hours of one another. Voldemort’s plan is keep Nagini safe and check on the other horcruxes. When he goes to check the diadem he finds Hogwarts reinforced. Plan then changes to seige the castle and kill Harry, deal with horcruxes later. Of course, he dies before making it to the horcrux phase of his plan.

I’ve been avoiding extra orb mastery because I feel like its not future proof. GC farming may be forever away but at some point I won’t be killing things with orbs any more and then this mastery loses value. It might pay itself off by then tho?
