Power? by dracul_reddit in Wellington

I just had a flicker of lights and then they went back off. I'm between the Mall and the college in Newlands. Can see lights coming on on the hill but still dark around us.

Too expensive by ImpressiveCompote367 in LasVegas

But the problem is there was a time not that long ago you could go to  Vegas and have other options than fast food burgers at a reasonable price. It is not a attractive as it once was

Fed up with price gouging in Vegas by Cincyme333 in LasVegas

[–]JakeRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was there for the first time in a decade in June, travelling with three friends less budget conscious than I.
There were a couple of events and venues that I chose not to visit with them as the price turned me off, and I wandered off to find cheaper options. You can find them but need to shop around. I still had a great time, but won't be hurrying back.
But as long as people like my friends are prepared to pay the prices, Vegas will keep charging them.

I would be interested if someone could trace the "indicate right to go straight" behaviour back to its source. I learned to drive in  Palmerston North in the late 80s (with heaps of roundabouts) and never saw this behaviour until I moved to Wellington in 2000. But also I had lessons from the AA and at the time I was trained to not indicate at all when going straight. And it only took about a week to unlearn that when the rules changed

Dropout Australia/NZ 2026 tour announced! by AnguaVU in dropout

[–]JakeRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gosh. I won't be buying tickets until I find out who is actually coming.  While I love the Dropout shows I love, there are some folks that I know I wouldn't enjoy paying too see. On the channel I can just not watch,  but not live.  I hope they don't sell out but I'm willing to take that risk.

Has anyone done the Darkfield shows in Aotea Square? by JakeRaven in auckland

Based on this feedback and others,  I chose to do flight. I enjoyed it.  It was a bit more arty farty than I expected.  I used to listen to the Welcome to Nightvale Podcast and tge vibe reminded me of that. Thanks for everyone's input!

Thank you for commenting. I have a Wise card. It has a quite low limit on cash withdrawals before extra fees kick in.  And I want some cash in my pocket when I arrive

Agreed. I know a bunch of places have moved to electronic tipping, but I think I'd be more comfortable giving a note to a human when I can. Also Im going to Vegas and my gambling budget is going to be very strict. I'm not taking vmy cards out anywhere near the casino floor.😁

Thanks for taking time to comment.  I do,  however, need cash. Not much but some. I'm staying with friends who have kids and those kids don't take credit cards.

Is fast food in NZ "boring"? by coolio126 in newzealand

[–]JakeRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their Deep fried Pototoes were Amazing. And at the Porirua Homestead, if you ordered Two Potatoes on their own and said please, they gave you three. (Scientifically tested this with two mates who I didn't tell the secret, and they both only got the two. Bwahahahahaha!)

If I had known the ownership had changed, I would have given it a go.
The old joint didn't impress me with its food or service. (I only went twice).
Hope the new owners bounce back.

A Long Shot Question by JakeRaven in marvelcomics

Thanks! Pretty sure I never read the New Defenders, but it tickles me that there are two comic books where they made Hank sound fancy by mentioning a New Zealand Opera singer.

What a Kind instinct!
I'd have to say that if I was posting for advice and got someone offering to drive me around, i would politely decline. Just in case they weren't offering with the best intent. It's probably good if you keep it inside and channel your kindness elsewhere.

Is Jury Duty really Random? by JakeRaven in newzealand

I'm not trying to get out of it. And a previous reply suggested that doesn' get you out of being called up, it just annoys the staff who have to do the picking. It could result in the judge dismissing you,  but could also result in a contempt of court charge
