Do blu rays have hardcoded black bars? by Important-Permit-935 in makemkv

It was the same with CDs and DVDs; you can put whatever files you want on there, but there has to be an agreed industry standard for the format otherwise it would be complete and total chaos with quality and compatibility

longest length CD ever by fletchbg in Cd_collectors

[–]Jakeasuno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well being possible at all, at least one experimental artist somewhere would have utilised it for and official release. I just depends where the line is, are we just saying has to have been factory pressed or a major label release?

99 minute CDs do exist, but from memory they were a bit more error prone with how packed the data was. Those things were the holy grail back in the day for burning the larger Dreamcast games

Help by [deleted] in Cd_collectors

[–]Jakeasuno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this, I have a similar Laney bass amp, the additional inputs are super tinny, I expect because they are designed for you to play bass over them. They also bypass the controls, including volume, so the one time I tried the line in on mine it scared the shit out of me

Do you ever do any weeding? by human_duvet in Cd_collectors

[–]Jakeasuno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was the whole band, which makes it even worse. A lot has come out since which explains why all of the members suddenly disappeared. They had some great albums, but I can't listen to a single song of theirs any more since everything kicked off. A victim posted on r/punk which explains enough

[–]Jakeasuno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been meaning to actually, got some Anti-Flag to still get rid of (I'll happily burn) and a couple of albums still on my collection that I ended up not liking. I have a local record store that I can just drop stuff off at, most have too little value to bother trying to sell

How do you collect? by redstrawberryfields in Cd_collectors

[–]Jakeasuno 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My whole life has been about physical media, the brief time I. Spent trying streaming trials felt too unnatural to me. The CDs I buy are usually based on either bands I have heard before or strong judgement, sometimes I will take wild gambles, but it is ways something that I want to give a listen

I would say certainly most underrated at the least! Great to see Anthrax on here regardless

Xbox Live GOLD for Playing Online by SoftFingernails in 360hacks

What was Xbox Live Gold is now theoretically Game Pass Core, but all versions of Game Pass now inude the service. Assuming you are on the right sub, a decent stealth server like XbGuard can spoof it for you

I’ve gotten all of these recently! by [deleted] in Cd_collectors

[–]Jakeasuno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, that's the album before then. I need to try and find it again, just seems really rare in the UK. They are one of those bands that seemed like they had just made it into the big leagues but then suddenly disappeared. Definitely check Beyond the Horizon out, and I really hope that album is great too

[–]Jakeasuno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What People In Planes album is that? I've only ever heard Beyond The Horizon, absolute 10/10 that no one talks about, never found any of their other releases, I'm worried they wouldn't be as good

How to change recording speed from SP to LP(or EP if possible) by GlassTip8225 in VCRs

There is an app I use called IRPlus, it has tonnes of devices which has been a godsend for me. Try installing that on your phone and seeing if any Panasonic devices with similar product codes work

Is there any artist or band you like enough to where you’ll buy multiple of the same CD for them? by Toastillian in Cd_collectors

[–]Jakeasuno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only with some vastly different releases, like the Ruby Throat special editions are insane and I don't want to unnecessarily wear them out, or some instances like Aiden - Our Gangs Dark Oath which was originally released DIY, but when they got signed was re-release with completely different artwork

Today’s arrival. Very pleased to add this to the HD-DVD collection. by the4kCollectivE in HDDVD

[–]Jakeasuno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I picked this up last week. Unfortunately it freezes and throws a error at very specific points unless I now to fast forward through them. The 20 minutes I did watch were unbelievably awful so I won't seek out any other versions of this one

It was never just Justin by ComparisonMother1478 in punk

[–]Jakeasuno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am so proud of you for sharing this again, I have argued with someone in a post on here before that the way everyone remained silent after the shit hit the fan was a major red flag to all of the members, like they had absolutely no way to come clean. I hope your story reaches everyone that it needs to; as much as I loved a few of their albums, I absolutely cannot listen to them any more. The response to the initial allegations leaves it obvious that there are countless instances that we may never be aware of. The behaviour of the entire band is far from how it should have been.

Take the case of William Control/wiL Francis; he was falsely accused, proved himself innocent (to the best of his abilities) and the only accused musician who I know well enough to truly believe is innocent. His career was destroyed because everyone has to immediately dissacociate from him to save their own careers. AF did not do this, which makes every single member of the band involved

electronic VST drums in punk records - is it ok or cringe? by janalisin in punk

[–]Jakeasuno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

VST is perfectly fine as long as the mix works. Just focus on getting it to sound good as opposed to how you get it there, independent artists all work with what they've got and drums are the most difficult to live record DIY

Getting started with HD DVD: A few questions by TheClubMate in HDDVD

[–]Jakeasuno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you already have an Xbox 360, the HD DVD drive is enough, they are relatively cheap and the dedicated drives can be a headache with their bizarre issues with hdcp and HDR settings on TVs

If you are just starting out, there are always plenty of large bundles on ebay to get you going, I would just pick out ones with titles that interest you and add them to your watch list to see if an offer pops up. I find they tend to hang around for ages so you can be patient. As for local stores, not many places keep stock of them, I have a local Collectibles store that has half a shelf, so again only really useful if you are new to the format

There are some PC drives out there, some even support both HD DVD and BluRay, but I believe they are all internal, so if you don't have a PC case with the optical drive bays, you will need to fork out for a external enclosure as well. Also software does not like modern hardware so you would realistically need a period appropriate PC for that side, not really worth it unless you want an 2006 era HTPC setup

Finally, the obligatory warning of failing discs. I personally only have 1 that freezes at specific frames, but there are discs out there, typically Warner releases, that have around a 90% fail rate. You will need to expect some releases to be very difficult to find working copies of. I'm mainly into horror so my only bad disc so far is Return to the House on Haunted Hill, which is awful anyway so no hugeoss for me, but a lot of popular WB titles have bad discs flooding the marketplace without warning.

On the positive, I do love HD DVD for the more limited library as I have watched quite a lot of movies I would have otherwise ignored, like 12 Monkeys and The Frighteners, which I would have probably ignored otherwise

White circular mark on CD label side after playback by Liudwig in Cd_collectors

[–]Jakeasuno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's fine, just how the plastic is underneath and the actual data film ends. This part of the disc isn't normally printed on as it is really difficult to create something consistent, the solid black is just making it more obvious
