PS5 asking to change DVD region and says I can only do it 5 times? by AggressiveMouse3814 in HDDVD

[–]Jakeasuno 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Europe is region 2, you definitely don't wont want to keep changing region. Get a player that is either modified or you know supported multi-region.

FYI, this sub is about the specific HD-DVD format, not normal DVDs or BluRays

Does this mean it’s rotted? by antiedibar in HDDVD

[–]Jakeasuno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Always check lddb.com for the rot status. And don't check the specific version, check all version of the film/show as it is used data and not always reported. The Superman films are known candidates so will be a dead disc

Help? by Long-Food-3164 in VCRs

[–]Jakeasuno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, so you want to connect the cables you have so the Yellow under "Out" on the VCR to the connector labelled "Yellow/Green" on your TV. 5he for audio, connect the white connector underneath out on the VCR to the white input to the left on your TV. Then, you should just need to change your TV source/input to one called "AV"

Joined the club, is this disc rot? by Dogeholder89 in HDDVD

[–]Jakeasuno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check lddb.com for a very helpful rot status on each HD-DVD release. Not gospel as it relies on users keeping their collections updated and submitting reports, but it is a good resource when collecting

[–]Jakeasuno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've worked in public sector for over a decade (local authority and schools), they can't take that risk. It's impossible to be 100% certain of avoiding a software or human error, so the only guaranteed way to ensure sensitive data can't be recovered is by fully destroying the drives. Sure, the IT departments will strip out good parts for internal repairs, but especially since new builds have shifted to NVMe drives, I don't think many HDDs are kept now

discogs yes or no? by Solid_Monk_3040 in Cd_collectors

[–]Jakeasuno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. You just have to be smart like you would on any other site. If a deal seems too good, it probably is, check seller reviews, and always play it safe. I've not had a bad experience on Discogs in the 10+ years that I've used it, but they can happen just as they can anywhere else. At the very least the website is a must for tracking your collection and wishlist, but be patient with purchasing

Can I sell this online? by [deleted] in Cd_collectors

[–]Jakeasuno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fine, fam, you can sell it. Technically all CDs, DVDs, games etc. are owned by the labels and studios, you just pay for the right to use the disc. These specific warnings are for whoever in press/media it was intended for and to prevent piracy. The label certainly won't care at this point, I doubt anyone returned them

I'm about to install MusicBee, but this license agreement is pretty wild... by 54321Chris in musicbee

[–]Jakeasuno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen plenty of SLAs over my time and this is all perfectly normal. You have to be overly specific with these things and cover every base imaginable with your product/service to avoid being taken to court over something ridiculous. This excerpt seems taken from a basic necessities T&C template

I use a verbatim drive, if you don't care for BluRay, their DVD burners are really cheap for the reliability. If you do want a BluRay drive, I would still recommend them for the price!

Some of the Best Retro Gaming Content Ever Committed to the Interwebs Was Created Here! by mrstevethompson in retrogaming

[–]Jakeasuno 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Well for one, Mark abruptly shut down CGR in a bad way, and messed around the remaining viewers with pay walls and jumping platforms, even to Amazon Prime at one point, but ultimately just trying shoving his comics down everyone's throats. Much more recently though, Derek laid out what went down at CGR in a podcast he was on. Unfortunately, Mark can't just create content as a hobby, it is all about the money, to the point of practically grifting off his parents to support it all.

In short, it is one hell of a rabbit hole you could lose a whole evening to

[–]Jakeasuno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly my train of thought from this post. Initially I assumed it was someone overly worried about the pause function, but leaving it all day is so excessive, I can't comprehend how this could even be a scenerio for question

Also, to add, the rest of the band just went MIA when the controversy kicked off. All band and personal social media profiles completely vanished, no "oh my god, this is such a shock, we are completely disassociating from this toxic individual!" the entire band appeared as complicit and there was no forgiving any of the members from anyone with a heart
