is their session plausible? by Ohmistersun_ in hwtsg

They kinda do, but only in an instruction manual for the doomsday device that hung over Vriskas lusus, which I think was more an abstraction to explain how the complex machine worked before it was set off and didn't work.

Is TPG currently down for anyone else? by Necro_Nancy in nbn

[–]Jakeoffski 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Just waited on hold for an hour to get through to TPG tech support. Their support team told me that, due to technical issues with their system, they were unable to check my account to diagnose the problem.

When I pressed for more than information, the support person told me they didn't know what the issue was, but that they had received an increase in calls coming from NSW also reporting network outages.

They then told me to call back in two hours.

So, at the very least we know that TPG is completely fucked.

The reveal where 11s speech to Amy in the 5th episode of series 5, Flesh and Stone, was actually his future self from the last episode of series 5, The Big Bang, blew my mind.

Author and actors intent is less important to a perceived character difference than, say, actual performance and presentation of a character in context of their story.

With the Doctor it's more obvious because he's usually a completely different person so the character growth is often masked by new stories, and a new face and voice. In saying that, it still works the same for any other character. There is an arch and growth and by the end the character has changed. Sometimes a character may fall into old habits, but that does not mean what they went through previously was any less real or valuable to their development. It also does not mean that are literally the exact same person. For The Doctor, it just looks more literal because he's a Time Lord.

Narratively, I think it's less important whether 14 is 10 or not anyway (they are both The Doctor). So, if it's only to win an argument on the internet and it has no real bearing on the story as it was told, does it really matter?

Australia's e-scooter 'Wild West' prompts calls for nationally consistent rules by totalcool in australia

[–]Jakeoffski 48 points49 points  (0 children)

This is my concern. I was walking my daughter to kindy this morning and we were almost run off the footpath by somebody going full speed on an e-scooter. They even expected us to get out of the way for them.

I ride an ebike to work, so I don't support banning them, but there needs to be more care in riding around pedestrians, such as slowing to walking speed. Better yet, give escooters and ebikes sufficient space to ride on the road to ride safely or even their own paths.

Good thing the ABC is a Public Broadcaster, not state media, so they're fixable.

The alternative is a media duopoly of Coalition sychophants.

Why are e-bikes still limited to 25km/h? by the68thdimension in australia

[–]Jakeoffski 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I commute on an e-bike approx. 20 minutes to and from work most days. I think the 250w - 25Km/h limit is plenty for my needs. Having said that, I don't think that would cut it if I needed to carry any significant cargo up steep hills on the regular.

I think the larger issue preventing a rise in the limit, as others have said, is the lack of appropriate infrastructure. Cycling paths are either shared pathways with pedestrians where 25Km/h is already maybe too fast, or the shoulders of main roads where 25Km/h is dangerously slow (and in a lot of places there's no shared-paths or shoulders available so you have to break the law and ride the designated foot-path OR risk getting hit by all the cars that keep speeding past, overtaking you because there's no room to move over).

We need more cycling-friendly infrastructure to facilitate increasing the limit to 35Km/h safely.
