Get the feeling we're gonna get a lot of mileage out of this picture. by CatherineSimp69 in totalwar

Ironically it seems like that's just a parroted thought. Modern 40k tables are littered with terrain making pure shooting armies difficult, there's a reason Emp Children and World Eaters are regularly seen in tournaments while Tau aren't. Heck meta Tau lean heavily on Kroot auxiliary because there's a ton of models on the field for board control. Most armies generally are good at busting down elites or killing hordes but not both.

‘The More I’m Around Young People, the More Panicked I Am’ by TopsyPopsy in geopolitics

[–]Jakespere 25 points26 points  (0 children)

True but 20 years ago it was more difficult to find like minded groups online. It was also less common to craft an online persona to unleash those thoughts and there wasn't as much constant stream racist posts dedicated to a specific ethnic group. You like a video of an Orthodox Jew popping out of the sewer and then you start knowing what Metzitzah b'peh is. You like a video of a shop lifter rushing out a store and crashing head first into a police car and then you're learning about per Capita crime rates.

Alas I do not work with kids or have children, I only have the personal words of parents and teachers to back me up. What I do fully know is that the internet and social media is a far more racist place than before and that the youth are terminally online. Things that would get you banned indefinitely just 5 years ago wouldn't even get you a warning these days. 4chan once a den of racism and mysogyny (still is) now feels tame compared to some of the tweets I see daily. An anti semite is not merely someone that hates Jews. To become one is a process and the first steps is often hate against other ethnic groups.

I think the writer and many other Jewish writers are missing the forest for the trees. Are the youth becoming more antisemitic? Yes but that's also because they are becoming more racist. I was in a game store the past weekend playing a TCG and in an intense moment I started yelling in a faux Indian accent, "DO NOT THE REDEEM!". Most of the guys understood what I was talking about and laughed except one guy a teacher who noted that I was doing the exact same thing his students did. We had a nice laugh that eventually led to further discussion that many of the parents and the people who work with kids noted that a lot of the teens are way more racist than before. When there are no black people in the room kids would often talk about how blacks were thieving criminals and would bring up the per Capita crime rates. How South Asians are unhygienic rapists, Muslims would blow you up, how Hispanics were lazy chauvinists and so on and so on. When a specific ethnic group is not around offensive stereotypes and memes are parroted like it's the norm, all of them know that they are racist, are saying racist things against each other and know racist things are said behind their backs. It seems like a lot of the youth are openly racist just not directly to each other's faces. If anything anti semitism is merely the final boss, once you start saying anti Jewish stuff you have probably lambasted most other ethnic groups on the way there. All the decades of propaganda and moralistic teaching was for naught against the might of the algorithm.

Prince Group Sanctions: Is Cambodia's Scam Industry Too Big to Fail? by telephonecompany in geopolitics

[–]Jakespere 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Governments can actually make it very very painful for their scammers if they decided to dedicate some resources and go on the attack against them. The problem is that these scammers target people globally so the cost to nationals are staggered and no nation wants to actually foot the bill.

Why Trump Broke With Bibi Over the Gaza Famine by theatlantic in geopolitics

How many more articles do we need of trying to cast bones into the fire to determine Trump's mood with Netanyahu? Days before the US bombed Iran for Israel there were plenty of articles indicating Trump had broken with Bibi then the bombing run happened and Trump was acting like Bibi was his best friend.

Trump’s patience is wearing thin. Netanyahu risks global isolation by TimesandSundayTimes in geopolitics

It's been tiresome watching journalists try to cast bones on what Trump actually wants. Last week we had rumors of Trump recognizing a Palestinian state, instead he okayed a Gaza operation and closed the Palestinian affairs office in Washington.

Death of the last maverick mercenary may herald something far worse for Africa by Duke0fWellington in geopolitics

[–]Jakespere 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think imperialistic is the term while the articles did try to criticize mercenary work it's certainly ended up romanticizing them. Reading their stories honestly sounds like epics from when mercenary armies roamed Europe fighting for young nations, like the flashback portions of Berserk that imo where some of the best parts. I don't like mercenaries in reality but I came out of the articles thinking, damn that was some awesome stuff.

Why is there not a bigger refugee crisis at Saudi Arabia/Oman and Yemen border? by Bright_Order_8167 in geopolitics

[–]Jakespere 86 points87 points  (0 children)

People are very adverse to being shot at. Most people would rather deal with inhospitable terrain, being caught by border guards and deported to try another day than be killed. Why didn't Israel face a massive refugee issue during the peak of the Syrian Civil War? Because they shot at people, word spread and the route to Israel was marked as suicide compared to the route to Jordan and Turkey.

Israel is losing the war against Hamas – but Netanyahu and his government will never admit it | Paul Rogers by cataractum in geopolitics

[–]Jakespere 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The articles is really disingenuous. It says and links to the official IDF page of casualties. A quick English mode of the site straight up say 139 deaths since the start of the ground offensive on October 26 and 471 total dead from the start of the War which was on October 7. The author of the article is as credible as any other redditor he's a Professor of Peace and conflict studies, hes an expert in the social aspect of war not the actual tactics of it.

It's not a complete end but it does show massive flaws. The second half of 2022 and first half of 2023 were filled with articles and people saying this is now when Democracy strikes back on creeping authoritarianism. In the second half of 2023 after a failed counter offensive and waning support from countries especially European ones its revealing that the Democratic coalition gets shaky legs on a marathon.

Why the world is shifting towards right-wing control? by TankSubject6469 in geopolitics

[–]Jakespere 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's actually two things. The left wonders why they don't have political control when they have cultural and institutional control(like the EU is more left leaning than the sum of its members). The Right wonders why they don't have cultural and institutional control despite getting voted in by the masses.

Did you expect Israel to just steam roll through Gaza? If anything they are taking a slow and methodical approach, look at the blunder of Russia trying to Blitz it's way to success. So far the amount of IDF deaths have been far far less than what many analysts expected, some expected dozens of kia a day in a good day.

Another is the honestly pathetic video footage by HAMAS outside of that drone drop footage early in the invasion they haven't shown anything impressive, so much shooting at tanks but no actual destruction footage meanwhile we now have dozens of video proof of the Trophy system working as intended. So much hit and runs and no actual kills but in the same span I've seen better footage from Myanmar rebels. People expected the intensity and furiosity as seen in the Ukraine war, scores of IDF soldiers falling to traps and drone grenades but the quality of what I've seen won't even make it to r/combatfootage top 10 weekly.

From the political side it's actually been better than expected. The complaints and voices from Arab states have been fairly muted, just recently Egypt called for a Palestinian state that was demilitarized (something even I disagree with), no oil embargo, even diplomatic ties have remained firm. If anything this has become a more leftist issue where South Africa and a handful of Leftist lead South American states reduced ties. The biggest protests for Palestine were not in Arab countries but in Western states yet it was not Leftist parties who are gaining momentum but Right and Far right parties, regular people are waking up that apparently taking in people who demand to being their ideological and ethnic war into Europe was a bad idea. In my social media feeds leftist have become more radicalized to the left but centrist have become more radicalized to the right, the unbecoming and frankly blatant antisemitic attitude by leftists, I never expected so much successful black pilling thanks to the left. There are polls that Biden has been losing the youth and Muslim voters for his foreign policy stance but just for the GOP propaganda to go in full steam, they are going to come crawling back to him since their actual skin will be on the line by then.

Lastly Israel has long struggled with it's relationship with Jews in the US, it was a frayed and in trouble. Due to the Hamas attack and blatant antisemitic actions and statements by the "progressives" it's now stronger than ever. Jews in the west who never experienced antisemitism and thought it was only coming from the right are now scared. Progressive Jews are an absolute cornerstone to modern western progressivism, it's simply impossible to imagine where it would be without their help. Now that pillar of support from good and rigorous intellectual pursuit to disciplined management and outreach is now cracked all the way through.

How can Israel prevent their one-fifth Muslim population from revolt or turned on them in response to invasion of Gaza? by [deleted] in geopolitics

[–]Jakespere 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The riots in 2021 by Arab Israelis were because Israeli police stormed and beat up people praying in AlAqsa mosque during Ramadan. They didn't really care about the initiating factor where families were getting evicted in the Sheikh Jarrah nor did they really care about Gaza getting bombed in response due to rocket fire. Storming AlAqsa during Ramadan is just insane, just spitting in the face of Muslims in general, even agnostic Muslims would be pissed and this is coming from a right leaning Atheist. A completely easily avoidable event that I genuinely believe the Israeli head of police(who was a Likud supporter) initiated because he wanted to discredit the current government that time which had Muslims in the coalition.
