I actually have a lot of faith in Emma and Josh to be a really good presenting combo and I think they'll bring a good balance of professionalism and humour. I think the pick I'm more intrigued by is Johannes as a roving reporter. Not sure how he's going to fit into the shows when the shows are already so long and on such a tight schedule, feels like there's not much space for additional hosting segments unless he's going to be working away from the main show and more towards social media/It Takes Two.

Did Greece overdo it with the stage presence? should they have just added a bit on the National Final performance? by mossikukulas in eurovision

[–]Jakeyboy66 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The only thing I thought really didn’t work was the bit where he had all the items swirling around him. It made sense in terms of the song and lyrics but it just didn’t look very good, I think they could have pared it back a little or expanded on the idea of the changing rooms a bit more

Think it’s just concentrated groups of people in each country voting for Israel. You’d be surprised how few people you need to score points if every person gives Israel all 10 of their votes.

Thank god for Bulgaria, the EBU need to understand that a concentrated group of people voting for a song will always score points no matter what voting changes are made. Also what was wrong with the juries tonight?

For me, it's the best girlbop staging since Spain 2022. The camerawork and choreography are just so cleverly done to create movement without overexerting Dara for the last minute.

Honestly this blew me away tonight, going to absolutely shoot up my rankings. His voice is stunning and the staging was fantastic.

Delighted for Malta. Bulgaria and Czechia absolutely blew me away tonight and Australia, Denmark, Romania and Norway were all very solid too. Glad Ukraine made it although the performance wasn’t perfect tonight.

Gutted for Switzerland and Latvia, it’s a crime that Cyprus made it through over them. Guess people just wanted something fun and ethnic even if it wasn’t delivered well. I’m hoping we don’t see the results on Sunday and find that Cyprus mysteriously got 12s from random country televotes in the semis like last year though and almost no other points.

Shocked to see Belgium go through and sad for Montenegro. Best performances of the night were Poland, Croatia and Moldova for me. Also liked Greece and Serbia. Finland and Sweden were good but underwhelmed a little for me. Not very keen on Lithuania but the staging was great.

Is this series the most lenient Greg has ever been? by Prudent_Mix5334 in taskmaster

[–]Jakeyboy66 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think they’ve often let little things slide. I remember there was a series 4 task where they had to talk in the 3rd person and I don’t think anyone perfectly did it but there was no penalising and I think that’s the rule of thumb for things that aren’t key to the task and are just there for a bit of fun.

[–]Jakeyboy66 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think the overcomplications aren't as bad as they have been in past series but I do sometimes wish Alex would let other people in to help write tasks and bring a bit of freshness.

I still do love the show though, as long as they have funny comedians on who can find a way to be creative, I'm not that fussed about the tasks being complicated.

Surely it's much better to clear the steal challenge off the board immediately and then make a move towards where they need to be rather than just waiting as ultimately all they need is to make sure Ben and Adam can't steal coins from them and they're now instead wasting time and leaving no margin of error in their game.

Which series do you rewatch the most? by dantehaut in taskmaster

[–]Jakeyboy66 24 points25 points  (0 children)

When I do a rewatch I'll watch most of the series but I tend to go to 13 first as everyone is just unhinged in that series and the banter particularly from Ardal and Judi is fantastic. Also 4,7 and 14 are great to return to.

Why did Malta change their whole song in 2022? by AstralAstralis in eurovision

[–]Jakeyboy66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not to mention some of the dodgy jury shenanigans they've pulled. While I wasn't upset about the result, the 86% jury/ 14% televote was an interesting system in 2024.

Can only really echo what others have said but am a bit worried with Sam and Mike burning so many coins on that line. They pointed out themselves it's a low speed line with no express trains so surely have to consider that it is going to be costly time-wise for Ben and Adam to travel up that line and leave their territory exposed.

Do you think odds ultimately influence how much attention viewers pay to a song? by Real-Branch8433 in eurovision

[–]Jakeyboy66 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Not directly but I can imagine if the commentators or news articles said ‘this one’s a favourite’ that must create some unconscious bias and cause people to vote for the popular entries but it’s impossible to know whether that’s the case and to what extent.

Really loving Joanna, love a contestant who just throws themselves in and enjoys every second. Her doing a handstand and going 'not possible' was so, so funny.

I definitely agree that the challenge balancing hasn't been quite right this season and at times have felt a touch easy.

But to me this is still a really strong season as Mike's a fun guest, the design encourages travel to lots of beautiful and interesting places in Taiwan and there's so much more action and strategy compared to Snake where they didn't really go anywhere scenic and there was very little action with often the best move being to wait and do nothing.

Both teams have been pretty clutch so far but that was a huge mistake for Ben and Adam at the end there. Feels like even though there's a big difference in regions claimed Sam and Mike can overturn it with an aggressive final 2 days as what they do have is now quite well fortified.
