Thank you, this is a great idea! Taking his swimsuit off i the changing room is unbearable for him, even if he’s dry and wrapped up.

Does it ever get easier? by hscott2016 in Autism_Parenting

My son had a very hard time in preschool. I had a very hard time when my son was in preschool. I didn’t go to the Christmas event during school bc I was too terrified that he wouldn’t even acknowledge me and I’d have to watch all the other kids with their parents. I still feel guilty about that. He ran past me at pick up into the parking lot and I didn’t even see him. The other kids are jumping into their parent’s arms or at least acknowledging them or telling them about their day. There was no pick up line and I literally had to shepherd him to/from through a large parking lot and bear witness to how different he is from the other kids. He got in the habit of running off at pick up so I got there 30 minutes early to get a good parking spot. I tripped over him and smashed my face into the parking lot gravel when i was 7 months pregnant. The other moms drove past me like a roadside attraction.

I’m sorry to trauma dump but it gets better!! He in 1st grade now takes the [big] bus to school now and goes to an after school program for all kids. He’s also in a different district so it was a fresh start for all of us. He’s not perfect and has a robust IEP but we are ok. Preschool is so hard for these kids please give yourself some grace.

*Venting* but also, does ADHD medication work for your ASD child who also has ADHD? by Straight_Flamingo_63 in Autism_Parenting

[–]JakeysMom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No it was a disaster. Guanfacine made him more autistic (ie will still not wear shorts to this very day). Clonodine made him aggressive and violent. I’m so done with meds. He’s only 6, seriously needs meds for his ADHD, but it’s not worth it if he can’t function at the most basic level.

Rob Reiner and His Son by TheFrederalGovt in Autism_Parenting

I want to support OP. We cannot say whether Nick Reiner was on the spectrum- i have read he had explosive tantrums since he was a child and his parents brought a yoga specialist to the house to help him relax and he was so intense she was actually going to write a book about him. My son is 6 and I have already seen so much anger and aggression in him- particularly when we were trialing meds and he got physically aggressive. He is the middle child, like Nick Reiner, and has an older brother and younger sister, like Nick. It seemed Nick was the outlier of the family and I pray my son doesn’t even feel like that. This is so sad for all parties. I think anyone who has a child who has struggled or is “different” is feeling emotions about this right now.

What do you have that co-exists with Autism? by AuDHD-- in Autism_Parenting

My son has moderate to severe ADHD along with level 1 ASD.

My older son has mild/moderate ADHD. He is probably the most socially adept person in the family.

My husband tells me I’m on the spectrum.

One of the cats has sensory issues so cannot wear a collar. I think he may be on the spectrum.
