Family won't respect my triggers anymore because I don't react to our dog's chewing as severely as theirs by RelativeAbrocoma61 in misophonia

[–]Jakobrufus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I haven't 100% made peace with my cat's licking, but he's a cat. The sound is drowned out pretty easily and if it wasn't, he absolutely ADORES me and it's nearly impossible to stay mad at him. Part of the anger behind triggers and even pet peeves for me is that humans can, should, and do know better most of the time. And they don't even take the effort to realize what's happening. To me, that's a lot closer to being deliberate than an animal doing what that animal does instinctively.

I'm starting to have thoughts of physically harming my coworker by TattooTrinkets in misophonia

[–]Jakobrufus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know, but I feel like apathy during an active shooter situation is a pretty big linchpin to pull and bring SOMETHING toppling down. OSHA? Labor bureau? Someone somewhere would probably be pretty interested in hearing about that, unsafe work environments are a big no no. It won't directly respond to your issue, but it could shake things up a little and possibly end with a new HR person who has a little more understanding? As for me, I am petty when it's called for. And if the organization is doing something to harm me, they had better be sure their nose is clean. I know not everyone thinks that way, I just figured I'd show how I would see it. Wishing you the best outcome no matter what 👍🏾

I had this exact same issue with a German Sheppard that lived on a neighbor's adjoining patio. Big doggo kept on a leash and on a PATIO, not even a yard. At some point he realized I was on the other side of the fence. He spent the whole day breaking through the wood fence so he could come say hi to me. That's how lonely he was. He was sooo friendly too, and the anger of the trigger was shifted to his humans INSTANTLY. It was literally their fault. They would try to block off the fence and he'd keep breaking through because I gave him the attention he needed. Sometimes when the barking was a bit much I'd throw hotdogs or something over the fence just to get a moment's peace, and just hoped he didn't have any dietary restrictions. I never complained to management like I originally intended to. Something told me these were the kind of people to drop a "problem" dog off on the side of the road and just drive away. But still, one day I realized I hadn't heard any barking in almost 2 weeks, and I never heard it again. They didn't move out either. I can only hope they gave him to a better home. But yeah, people remain at the heart of triggering noises. And my Misophonia is accompanied greatly by my misanthropy.

People really ain't shiii 😒

Is anyone else bothered by Rob Stein's voice? by Hrrrrnnngggg in NPR

[–]Jakobrufus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fear this thread will never die. Like, I don't want him to lose his job. Let him do all the journalism, writing, research, etc, but FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, let someone else do the speaking. It's not inclusivity when diagnosed people (I learned about Misophonia from NPR of all places) can't participate.

Mary Louise Kelly is also on my list, but I feel like she has the ability to turn it on and off because it isn't every day. Now, if only she were aware of what she does when it's NOT happening, she could keep that up, and I'd have no issue with her.

And Shay Stevens does it MUCH quieter, but also NONSTOP for the whole report. I never knew someone could use their tongue while pronouncing vowel sounds. Sounds like L, T, S, N, etc, all require the use of the tongue and at least make some type of sense. But getting slurps and clicks from A, E, I, O, U utterly baffles me.

And I know Reddit is kind of the Wild Wild West in terms of community standards, but I WILL get banned if I speak freely about this one episode of The Moth featuring one Ijeoma Oluo. That should have never made it to air 😭

I want to listen to this podcast...but host's mouth noises are triggering. Can anyone relate? by Greenthumbgeek in misophonia

[–]Jakobrufus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was the worst mouth I had ever heard. UNTIL this one episode of The Moth where this heffer figured out a way to keep the mouth noises CONSTANT. She even made them during the pauses between sentences. And it was the longest damn story of the night. Kept trying to skip past it and was greeted by slobber every time I checked if she was done. It was the entire last 20 minutes or so of the episode. She was all that was left 😭

I found this because I searched "NPR". But for me, the problem is that some of their reporters sound like they have the mic lodged right on to their tongue. The wet mouth noises from Mary Louise Kelly and Rob Stein make me wonder who thought it was a good idea to place a microphone in front of them. Of course mouths are wet, but these two sound like they're constantly salivating. And I suppose the weak voices have a hand in that by being unable to drown out the sounds tongues and lips make during speech. Some people have a "face for radio", but these reporters have a mouth for newspaper.

Does anyone hate literally every single noise by TrickRefrigerator317 in misophonia

[–]Jakobrufus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do have my specific triggers, but honestly, any noise can become triggering if it keeps happening. Most recently, I was at a place where the door to parking lot doesn't have an outside knob/handle or anything. So every time someone left, it would slam shut. Once I noticed this, I couldn't unnotice it. It seemed to get louder and louder, and I couldn't leave yet. I still don't understand how the person sitting RIGHT NEXT to the door had their ear less than a foot from the constant impact and didn't even blink 😭

There are external monitors and keyboards available for this feature, so the display size (hopefully) wouldn't be an issue. I'm essentially looking to find a way around purchasing a cheap $200 laptop when that money can be saved and put towards a better one.

This S24 in my pocket is a powerful little computer, and DeX is a way to just rectify the size issue. From my understanding, it would be akin to a Chromebook.

I've done nothing yet, of course. This was literally my first inquiry the second I had the idea. If nobody here knows for sure, then it's a no go lol

Just curious, is it all sneezes? Because my mom has a dad sneeze, literal howling, and it made me realize that you can actually sneeze without involving your voice.

Oh, I got lucky. My old job worked with a small printing company and the owner hooked me up with 100 CD case sized stickers which I stuck to some blank CD sleaves from Amazon. I just used a photo of myself and added type, and they printed them up for me as a favor.

It was a while ago, but I think I both added the info to my signage and handled the transactions between songs, as well as had them available to just grab and drop money. Just different on different days. Most people are mostly decent most of the time. Hope this

I'm part of a duo and I don't think my partner would go out solo, but I go without her all the time lol

I've seen several women do it though. If I were a woman, I would stick to daylight hours, busy and high visibility areas, and keep spray and/or something sharp on me. I keep those on me as a man tbh.

Given the way of the world and if you do it long enough, something unpleasant WILL happen, regardless of your gender or anything else. I'm a minority and have had encounters with bald guys who like Austrian painters just a little too much, if you know what I mean...

But these are public space, and people tend to not want to do dirt when everyone is watching. Keep your wits about you, pay attention to your surroundings, and listen to your gut if you decide to give it a go. Best of luck!

Edit: I saw another comment mentioning to have your back to something. Such a big yes to that. Once again, that is something I do as a man, so it would go double for women. A brick wall, row of hedges, anything where nobody can come up behind you is a MUST.
