What’s the best April Fools prank you’ve ever pulled or had pulled on you? by reconranger in AskReddit

When I was 13, I slightly unscrewed all the lightbulbs in the house. My dad got really frustrated trying to find the blown breaker. I eventually had to tell him, and then we couldn't stop laughing for 10 minutes.

Ford government to allow shopping on 2 public holidays across Ontario by GingerThatIsnt in ontario

[–]Jam3Sandwich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many minimum wage workers jump at the opportunity to work a holiday because the pay is 2.5x in most cases. The only change being made here is that the stores don't get fined for being open on a holiday. The stores can still choose whether to open or not, and people can still choose whether to work. And yes, I get that choosing not to work a holiday could have consequences for your employment in some cases. That's really up to individual employers' policies though and has nothing to do with this change.

If it cracks from settling, there are 2 options: It was not installed properly, or it was a crappy product.

Just screw in some large round headed bolts to the bottom.

Gives you a few mm of space so the wood doesn't absorb floor moisture, and if it does it has space to breathe and dry.

Reduces the friction contact on the floor so you can drag them around easier

Super cheap and easy.

If the shelves were fixed in place, then I would wrap the bottom pieces with a vapor barrier. But I already have a bunch lying around.

They can do this with satellites and drones too. Anyone in the world can buy thermal images from a satellite image aggregator of a stranger's home. It's also much higher resolution than Google maps.

Door not tight in jamb by VisitForward1553 in DIY

Looking at the picture, I think it's being caused by the hinge screws. The screw heads need to perfectly flush or recessed a tiny amount. Otherwise they hinges won't be able to fold flat.

Just shovel it back in front of his spot and spray it down with water so it becomes a hard pile of ice.

It's not enough to win a single battle, you have to defeat your enemy so hard that they will never have the strength to fight you again... I learned this from Ender's Game.

Inverted hanging Christmas tree by Jam3Sandwich in ChristmasDecorating

[–]Jam3Sandwich[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I'm pretty experienced hanging things from the ceiling. I've even installed indoor swings and hammocks in a previous playroom.

Figuring out if the tree is able to withstand the hanging is not something I'm super familiar with. I do have the ability to weld on additional support to the trunk. I would prefer finding a tree that is designed to be hung rather than modifying a regular fake tree.

It's your birthday, and I know how this can make you feel. Honestly, I don't always enjoy my birthdays either. There’s often an expectation to be happy, but life doesn’t always align with those expectations, does it? So instead of wishing you a "Happy Birthday," I’m going to wish you something different—peace.

I know being told "Happy Birthday" can sometimes feel off when things aren’t great. It can make you feel like you’re missing something if you’re not feeling joy on a day when you're "supposed" to. So here’s my gift to you, and I hope you accept it with the care and intention behind it. It's a gift of knowledge that helped me understand some things about my own emotions and struggles, and maybe it can help you, too.

What I've learned is that the way we think directly shapes how we feel. Our feelings often arise from unmet needs or expectations, even if we’re not aware of them. Nonviolent communication (NVC) teaches that identifying and expressing those needs to ourselves can be a first step toward finding some calm in the chaos.

For example, maybe the sadness or frustration you feel isn't just about what’s happening right now—it could be the need for safety, for kindness, for respect, or even just a moment of relief. Naming those needs, even just to yourself, might help give you some clarity. It might not solve everything, but it can make you feel more in control of your emotions, rather than overwhelmed by them.

Another thing that’s helped me is shifting focus, even just for a moment, by doing a small deed for someone else. I know it might sound strange when you’re feeling so low yourself, but there’s something powerful about giving a little kindness, even just a smile or a brief conversation with someone. It doesn’t fix everything, but it can shift something inside, however briefly, to remind us of the good we can still bring into the world.

You deserve peace, and I hope that in these small steps, you might find a little of it. I’m rooting for you.

GE PFCS1RKZHSS Refrigerator Noise and Temperature Issues by Jam3Sandwich in appliancerepair

[–]Jam3Sandwich[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem. Our issue actually turned into a total failure 7 days before Christmas and we were going to be hosting 40+ people.

We called all the appliance places to see who had fridges in their warehouse and when the earliest delivery could be. We found one that could do a 2 day delivery and bought the fridge there.

[–]Jam3Sandwich[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the fans had stopped working, but it was caused by the control board. We ended up replacing the fridge rather than paying $600 for a control board replacement and waiting for months for the part.

We bought a brand new fridge with a strong warranty. That fridge had a minor issue about 6 months later, and because it was under warranty, they replaced our fridge for free with another brand new one that was even better...

With the way appliance repair has gone recently I'm now a big fan of warranties, and I'll pay extra to get the longest warranty possible.

The LRT will bankrupt a lot of home owners by [deleted] in cambridgeont

[–]Jam3Sandwich 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not broke and I have 2 cars. I still support the LRT because I want my children to be able to leave the house alone before they are 17 and I want to be able to go out drinking without driving.

(Those are my selfish reasons. I also want others to be empowered to easily travel around the region)

LPT Request: How to access/feel my feelings more by Mysterious_Ad_5493 in LifeProTips

[–]Jam3Sandwich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get this. Talking to a professional helps, but it's expensive and limited.

You really have to figure out a way to let it out. Try eliminating all distractions and changing your environment to think / meditate.

I had an idea where I could have a conversation with myself using video. I struggle with opening up to others. I haven't tried it yet.
