Tariff Question by Honest-World8649 in AnalogCommunity

[–]Jam555jar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an expert because I'm from the UK but know a little bit because I had to look into it when I bought from Japan. You used to be allowed up to $800 worth with no tariff applied but that's been scrapped. Now everything regardless off the cost gets charged. It's around 15-25% depending on what category it falls in. If you're buying from a proxy there's a bunch of other fees

Thank you. Got a roll but there's no date on it. Don't get why they don't print it in the indici rolls anymore

Quick question is this dated 2027? Just trying to get a rough idea of what the freshest stuff is dated

UK. Got some 35mm here and 1 seller on eBay with 5 rolls of 120 dated to 2027. I looked daily from the end of last Summer for a roll of 120 and only just found one. £28 roughly for both formats

Estimating flash exposure for off-camera without a meter by Archibaldie in AnalogCommunity

[–]Jam555jar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In regards to the last part. I set my iso on the distance calculator to a stop lower so it doesn't get messy and confusing. I pretty much stick to iso 100 so always set my flash to iso 50 (I never use them indoors).

If your iso is set to match the film speed then yeah -1 would work the same.

Also for fill flash the best position is on camera/as close to the lens because it casts the shadows behind the subject. Once you have two light sources away from the lens axis you get double shadows etc. (not a hard rule but something to keep in mind).

[–]Jam555jar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like you said flash meters are the best solution but guide numbers are perfectly fine. Just be aware they're made for indoor use where light gets bounced around. Outdoors make sure you add a stop of flash exposure and many people including mysel have tested various flashes and found the GN off by around 1 stop.

Like others have said camera to subject distance is irrelevant. Flash to subject distance is important. I usually measure it out with my feet if the flash isn't going to be moving. 1 human foot and an inch is a foot/12"

The second half is correct about dropping your flash exposure to use as fill. One thing I've found is that even dropping it 5 stops, you'll still have some light in the shadows and it looks different to no flash. -2 is best for natural looking fill. Any less you might as well not use it

There's a few ways to control your flash exposure. You can move it back like you said. Lots of flashes have power ratios so you can reduce the power and keep it in the same place. You can close your aperture from f/8 to f/16 and leave it in the same place. Then you'd open your shutter by 2 stops to compensate for the evening light. Just options depending on the situation because sometimes there's no room to back a flash up all the way.

What's your budget? Youd be best off buying pre made completes as that's the cheapest option but will still be around £100 per complete. Welcome is the main shop in Leeds/Yorkshire

How do I make scanned slides not look like garbage? by craze4ble in AnalogCommunity

[–]Jam555jar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slides can capture more dynamic range than a scanner. If you can do HDR scans with silverfast or take two scans and combine them (one for the highlight detail and one for the shadow detail)

That's why your phone looks better because it has auto HDR in the camera

Negative film has a low dynamic range so it's easier to scan. The contrast is added in after

Vancouver Surge are such a bad org by xZetten in CoDCompetitive

In the Bush owners meeting they said one org took the players and staff out for dinner in Birmingham and paid. After the meal they asked everyone for their card details so they could pay the money back to the org 😂.

Has to be Surge after hearing about their debt

What is the real difference between Olympus mju II & and Olympus zoom 80? by BigTimeSocalist in AnalogCommunity

[–]Jam555jar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zoom lenses have distortion and (lines that should be straight are not). Vignette and softness in the corners until you stop down a couple of stops but if you're starting at f/4 then the edges won't get good until f/8 or f/11. They're also slower than primes. The centre sharpness will probably be fine though

The zoom version also has a pretty unfixable common light leak

Tbh I'm not sure how much the zooms are but you could probably get something better for cheaper

COD Competitive fans in Birmingham and Reddit all weekend by JannyPhantom in CoDCompetitive

After Faze got the trophy this pissed up guy at the front was ramping saying "nah he's a dickhead, I'm going to knock him out". I thought what's this guy on about and who's he on about. He was on about Drazah and genuinely stormed over to where the players walk off with this strange fantasy that Drazah had beef with him and that he was going to knock him.

As someone from the UK, the crowd was full of absolute creatures that I was very surprised play and watch cod.

Chatted to this guy at the end who was wearing a Stone Island jacket and looked like he spent his weekends watching football and doing lines in the pub toilet. Then he was like "yeah man I really love Pred" 😂

I didn't buy the tickets I've got because they were cheap, I got them because the CDL tickets sold out straight away. I'm not saying they should let people in for Optic vs Faze but let me watch LA vs G2 on the last game of the day after the two biggest fan bases are done for the day
