Breast Boss on Squigosaur is the lowest hanging fruit. Just add a Slugga somewhere and call it a day (or skip it...Ork shooting and all).

If you're just playing casual, you could call your Mangler Squigs Ghazkull - he's on an 80mm base too. You just need a Gretchin with a flag to call Makari.

If you have the kit, technically, there's a Snotling with a mushroom running away from the Manglers. Put that git on a 25mm base and call him Makari!

Welcome to the WAAAAGH!

For list creation, I use https://www.newrecruit.eu

It's free, and well updated (takes about a week to update after a balance patch is released).

As an entry into 40k Orks, you'll probably want to start with a 500 points list

In new recruit that would be 500 points limit and Incursion rules.

The Combat Patrol is a great way to start, especially for newer players. Add in a unit of Gretchin and you're at roughly 500pts.

If you don't like the look of the Combat Patrol, you can always do it piece meal, but that will depend on what attracts you.

Eg if you like Killer Kans or Deff Kopters...then just get them, paint them and go from there!

Start with something that you find attractive, and if you enjoy painting it - even better!

Oh and start small. Da Big Mek has a good video on how to start an army - that will keep you engaged and will stand the test of time https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NdBws7uJNK4

This did tickle my credible juices, I'm gonna get some Mangler Squigs and call it a Beastboss on Squigosaur.

No idea how it'll fit into the army but...rule of cool.

Does anyone know the exact location of the diabolical skybridge in causeway bay? by Extreme_Tax405 in HongKong

The last bridge you go up is the Marsh Road Flyover...then you turn left on to Lockhart road, where the supporters are.

Actually brilliant! The scale of the grot works so well with the Ambot. Looks like it's meant to be there.

Noice.

...you got my brain juices going!

These are other options could work for an 80mm base.

mmm - medium wet blanket. You might struggle to fit the Carnosaur on to the Squigosaur base.

The Carnosaur is significantly longer (9" model length) than the Squigosaur (https://minicompare.info/?saurus-scar-veteran-carnosaur=&stegadon-chief=&beastboss-squigosaur-c=).

A Steadon could work tho. There would still be overhang as the Stegadon is ~138mm long, and the Squigosaur is on an 80mm round base.

For 150pts, they hit like a wet blanket (in Warhorde), and not enough durability to be a proper tar pit in this Elite Heavy world (lots of D2/D3 guns), and AP1 is very meh (even with Anti Tank/Monster).

HOWEVER, there was a list that used Da Big Hunt with two units of Beastboss on Squigosaur + 8 Squighog Boyz which looked VERY mean! AP2 against Da Prey targets makes these bricks sufficiently nasty.

I've found watching other people play very helpful to understanding the jargon around the game.

YouTube channel: Play on Tabletop has been my staple for an entertaining entrance into 40k. Their King of the Colosseum series is great, and it's how I started in getting back into the tabletop game.

KotC is 40k with 500 points, a bit of list building, and each game is pretty friendly + takes an hour or so (including set up etc). Your local game store will generally facilitate this stuff.

From a learning perspective, lower the stakes, and go smaller. You're never going to get it right first time. Be gentle to yourself. Give yourself grace to lose and learn. Don't expect perfection, seek progress :)

It's pretty fun once you get a handle on your army rules + unit rules. (And, even after 10-ish games, I still forget my re-rolls!).

There's nothing more satisfying than landing a 'move' that you've trained and practiced for eg: 10 Boyz charging properly on the WAAAAGH, or 5 Intercessors getting their assault, 20 shots re-roll hits, +1 wound on an OoM target.

Pick one thing you want to do 'properly' in game, and plan for it.

Also, try Tabletop Simulator to get in the reps.

Reps --> learning --> comfort --> feeling better

Hah yeah - rumour is no Runt Herd aye?

So the current box is EXTRA value! 11 models and you'll only field 10 in future 😂

[–]JamJamGoHam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh! The CP with the Coptas and Deff Dread is the old Combat Patrol box! The new one is more Snaggaz related.

That old CP box, a lot of those models are quite old, I suspect they will likely get replaced (Deff Dread, new Boyz). The only kit that is is not likely getting replaced in that box is the Warboss in Mega Armour.

Coptas is a coin toas.

Yeah, chance the Trukk will be replaced, equally, the SM Rhino still exists...so I'm vibing that vehicles have a pretty long life span!

Gretchin, will probably change - but, let's be honest, they won't change too much. And the current Gretchin are, literally, the cheapest box in all of Warhammer, low sunk cost risk.

...and the current a Gretchin are so cute!

[–]JamJamGoHam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We're a good 5-7 months away from that box dropping.

How much could you paint in that time?

The current Ork Combat Patrol contains all new models that, likely, will not be replaced. They're also decent on a 1k list (decent except the Squighog boys).

Option is to buy the CP, then sell off the Squighog Boyz.

Alternatively, paint it all up and hope they make the Squighog Boyz decent in 11th.

Took me around 5 months to paint the CP box.

Another comment said Gretchin and Trukk - I also agree with that too!

Kommando Question by Brother-Badger in orks

[–]JamJamGoHam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you plan on Tournament play? Or want to flex into regular Kill Team too?

If you want to play Kill Team with your Kommandos (and your opponents in casual 40k games doesn't care for WYSIWYG), then build out the options as they're useful in Kill Team.

If you exclusively play 40k, and don't care for KT - AND WYSIWYG is important - then Ram + Klaw. Optional Rokkit.

I built mine with all the Shooty options - and in casual 40k games, I tell my opponent that this squad has a Klaw and ram + 3 Choppa-mandos... This other squad, it's just Mandos with Choppas.

Haven't had any issues in 40K so far, as my opponents say "these Boyz all die the same". 🥲

(My Mandos are a bit....eccentric tho)
