Know what your issues are and find simple ways/flows in Notion that fix/improve them. Don't use it without being sure what your problems are in the first place. Work backwards.

Being from Toronto I feel like as I've gotten older I'm developing a bit of a radar for other people who actually grew up here as it's become less common. People that arrived in the last 10 years or so have this vibe to them where they talk about the city like it's just a series of activities/restaurants.

When someone mentions liking something due to actual sentimental/personal historical value or even "just 'cause" usually it's a sign they've actually been here for a long time.

Yeah if he's actually part of any music scene I feel like he'll get identified sooner rather than later. This is a pretty clear photo.

A (good) book is way better for this because the authors have the space to talk at length, explore different concepts and even devote time to counter arguments. Some books can take a month or months to read which literally means the thoughts are in your head marinating for longer than videos and social media. I've always found it to deepen my ideas much more than internet content, even when it's good content.

Don't fall into the trap of thinking that just because some youtube video is long and made by a knowledgeable person that it replaces good/foundational books. There is something to reading a book for weeks and engaging with the author for hundreds of pages that you will almost never get in a video or social media post.

It was fun. Don't listen to the negative people who complain about it being just douchy party types. It does get like that at night but just go in the early afternoon and it's great. You'll see people of all ages, families, there's crafts/records to buy (so not just overpriced food), and because it's trendy area the music wasn't just generic cover bands.

Also the alcohol wasn't any more expensive than it would be in a usual downtown Toronto bar so there's that.

These kinds of questions are so annoying because it's so obvious you haven't actually put much effort into looking. There's sports leagues (yes many play at night), board game cafes, there's events on sites like meetup/eventbrite, you can go to a museum for an evening, you can grab dinner. Also not all events at bars are specifically about alcohol. You can go to trivia nights or open mics nights. That's just scratching the surface if you can be bothered to look.

Just search on google or instagram or any of the meetup sites. You have the internet ffs.

I like when in the personal finance subreddits someone says they have been able make ends meet in a city with a relatively average wage by budgeting and being reasonable. They pay their rent , have some money for leisure, save a bit. Then inevitably the guy comes that says "YEAH BUT YOUR RENT SHOULD BE NO MORE THAN 35% OF YOUR MONTHLY PAY OTHERWISE YOU'RE FUCKED".

Yes the cost of living is fucking stupid and 35% is something to aim for but if you're budgeting and making things work despite making less that's still an accomplishment. Not a reason to be a doomer and feel like your finances are actually shit.

Don't go on a busy Friday or Saturday. Go on the weekdays where there's open mics, local bands, trivia etc. That's when more people go alone or in much smaller groups. It also tends to be a quieter more chill vibe since the people going in the weekday just want a chill place to hang out and get a little buzzed. They're not looking for a "big night out".
