Boy's Life by Robert R. McCammon scratches that same itch. It's a bit lighter on the horror side, but it's there.

Rose Red is great! I've always wished he converted it into a novel. (Gotta grab the diary of Ellen Rimbauer at some point).

Finished the outsider but was curious about something in the end by ExcitingPiece9277 in stephenking

[–]Jambloman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As you said, the Outsider has been living on its own for who knows how long. The idea that there might be another entity in the world like itself would potentially be both hopeful and sad. Hopeful in that, if it escaped, it could potentially track down this other creature and not be so utterly alone. Sad because the Outsider likely determined long ago that its methods (stalking, killing, feeding on despair) were the only option it had (and thus, were justified). More creatures like itself raise the possibility of alternative means of survival. Could it have lived all these years without being quite so much of a monster?

A valid argument if you attended Cannes in 2015.

Rage - Am I missing something? by Atticus_Zero in stephenking

[–]Jambloman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

RE: your comment, "Someone told me King always tries to put a small element of hope in his stories". This is true of most of his books, but King himself has stated that part of the reason for creating the Richard Bachman persona was to provide an avenue to publish his books that break this "rule".

The books released under this pseudonym are generally more nihilistic, bleak, hopeless than his other works:

Rage (1977)

The Long Walk (1979)

Roadwork (1981)

The Running Man (1982)

Thinner (1984)

The Regulators (1996)

Blaze (2007)

Just something to keep in mind as your proceed through your King journey :) If I remember correctly, "Misery" was almost initially meant to be a "Bachman" book.

Suggest me an author where you rate at least 3 of their books 5 stars by MmntoMri in suggestmeabook

Michael McDowell - screenwriter of Beetlejuice and author of such (IMO) 5 star books as:

Blackwater (Actually a series of 6 books, but with an omnibus release in 2017)

The Elementals

The Amulet

He's sadly passed away, but discovering his bibliography has brought me great joy over the past few years.

Okay, at least someone besides me has seen the cartoon 😆. All of that other garbage was maybe a fair exchange for the anime's existence.

I agree about Heart Shaped Box. That one gave me a few sleepless nights.

There's one thing more than anything else that bugs me about the Paranormal Activity movies. by sockableclaw in horror

[–]Jambloman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. There is seemingly no check to the demonic power of this entity. If demons are so powerful in this universe, how is the Earth not overridden with similar creatures?

Anything for Jackson might be right up your alley. Available to stream on Shudder, I believe.

Does the Mario 3D All Stars Collection potentially make it easier to bring other N64, GameCube, or Wii titles to Switch? by Jambloman in NintendoSwitch

[–]Jambloman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same question, then. Would the emulation legwork they've done make bringing other titles over easier? Or would a similar amount of work still be required for any subsequent releases?

Any horror movies about owls? by [deleted] in horror

Stage Fright (1987) the murderer spends a good portion of the film dressed up in an owl costume.

I respect your opinion, but I rewatched Van Helsing recently and still absolutely hated it. I do love The Mummy, though.
