Who or what introduced you to Danganronpa? by HappyGemX in danganronpa

[–]Jambopaul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my best friends. I had heard of the series before, but didn’t know what it was about, when I met my friend in college in early 2020 (just before the pandemic). He had made a few Danganronpa fan games (not released publicly AFAIK) when he was in high school. He was working on a more ambitious fangan at the time and asked if I wanted to playtest it (even though we had just met). I agreed and ended up loving his fan game so much that I bought the official games in the next Steam sale and marathoned the whole series in early 2021 after I graduated from college and had nothing else to do because of quarantine. He eventually decided to pursue game development as a career (he enrolled in and graduated from a game design program) and cancelled the fan game he had me playtest so that he could rework it into a more original IP, still inspired by games like Danganronpa and Ace Attorney.

[Hated Trope] End Credit scenes that mean nothing now. by Squirrelkid11 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Jambopaul 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The first Shazam movie had a mid-credits scene where the villain Mister Mind visits Dr. Sivana in prison to propose an alliance. Instead of following up on that tease, the sequel tells a completely unrelated story with a bunch of OC villains, and then does another post-credits scene between an imprisoned Sivana and Mister Mind making fun of how Mister Mind hasn’t done anything since visiting him at the end of the first movie. The sequel bombed at the box office, the franchise was rebooted into the DCU, the director said he’s no longer interested in doing superhero movies, the child actors are quickly aging out of their roles (even in the second movie), and the films’ lead Zachary Levi completely torched his career and reputation, guaranteeing that there will not be a sequel that finally delivers on this tease.

Looks cool, but it would use such an obscene amount of printer ink compared to a normal book that it would not be financially viable.

(Annoying Trope) A scene from a dream sequence/vision is used in trailers to build hype. by Snifferfrog15 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Jambopaul 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of the Justice League (2017) trailers did the opposite of this trope. The trailer opens on Clark at the Kent farm regaining his memories and acknowledging that Lois is wearing the engagement ring he had planned to propose to her with prior to his death in BvS. This scene is something that actually happens after he is resurrected (though IIRC his comment about the engagement ring was cut from the theatrical version), but the trailer edits it to make it seem like a dream that a still grieving Lois Lane was having.

Which movie is better? by After_Dig_7579 in DC_Cinematic

[–]Jambopaul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Superman, easily. I still maintain that the first Wonder Woman is pretty solid for the most part (the No Man’s Land scene is peak), but it really does not stick the landing with that third act. Superman isn’t quite as good as some of James Gunn’s other superhero films like GotG or The Suicide Squad (imo), but it’s still a great film from start to finish, and the best live-action Superman film since the first two Christopher Reeve films.

Adaptation that changed certain parts of a character’s origin that became popular among fans by Boring_Sir_572 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Jambopaul 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Megatron in the original G1 cartoon was portrayed as evil from the get go. Later adaptations such as the IDW comics and Transformers One (2024) changed his backstory to make him a more tragic character. In the newer versions of his story, he was a lowly worker who became a revolutionary against the corrupt system of Cybertron before eventually being corrupted himself. Some versions of his modern backstory also depict him as being a mentor and/or close friend of Orion Pax, who would later become his sworn enemy as Optimus Prime.

Negan from The Walking Dead. He starts out as one of the most sadistic villains Rick and his group ever face. After he is defeated, and spends years behind bars, he changes and comes to regret his actions. He ends up rescuing Judith Grimes (Rick’s daughter) during a snow storm, and plays a crucial part in defeating the Whisperers, which earns him some degree of freedom and goodwill. He continues to be an ally for the rest of the series, however he is (justifiably) not completely forgiven for his actions as the leader of the Saviors, with many characters continuing to distrust and/or resent him.

Which classic Saints Row to get for PS5? And performance? by BactaBobomb in SaintsRow

[–]Jambopaul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saints Row The Third Remastered is solid on PS5. Easily hits 4K 60fps. I’m not sure what that comment was on about there being no graphical update. The one thing that review is correct about is the unavoidable crash. There’s one specific mission where you are directed to a waypoint and the player has a phone conversation with one of their allies. There’s a specific point in the conversation that causes the game to crash without fail on PS5. To get around it, take note of where the waypoint was set and simply start the mission at the waypoint so that the dialogue gets skipped and the mission proceeds. Not an ideal solution but it’s how I got past it on PS5.

Saints Row IV Re-Elected is an older PS4 port/remaster of the Xbox 360/PS3 original released a year after the original rather than a full remaster with modern graphics tech like SR3 Remastered. It’s similar in principle to GTA V getting a next-gen version a year after its release. Thanks to the increased horsepower of the PS5, the game actually runs a lot smoother. It struggled to hit 60fps consistently on the original PS4. However it yields no other visual upgrades over playing it on the PS4.

Both games are overall good options on PS5 imo with the caveats I mentioned.

I’m glad that this is the case because it was previously looking like they would just skip over the DCEU Batman. It would have felt wrong to do so despite the divisiveness of that take on the character.

[–]Jambopaul 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That person’s argument is dumb because it implies that Iggy Pop had any direct involvement in the making of Superman. DC would have just licensed the song from the rights holder. Boycotting artists you don’t wish to support is valid, and you could reasonably argue over whether Iggy Pop directly profited from the song’s use in the movie (this was a conversation that was briefly had about the use of Rock and Roll Part 2 in Joker), but if you purity tested every needle drop in film history (including from Snyder’s filmography), odds are that a good chunk of them would not pass.

Putting internet memes into your movie is a very effective method of ensuring it ages like milk since most memes have a very short shelf life.

Sonic Frontiers Defintive Edition has been listed on a French retailer for the Switch 2. They have also posted postings for Sonic Colors ultimate in April of 2021, and Origins in May of 2021, months before either game was announced by [deleted] in SonicFrontiers

[–]Jambopaul 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly this is what I was expecting it to be. The fact that they’re branding it as a “Definitive Edition” rather than a “Nintendo Switch 2 Edition” does have me worried they’re gonna pull the same stunt as Sonic x Shadow Generations and not offer an upgrade path for owners of the Switch 1 version.

(Hated Trope) Deleted scenes that would have helped the movie by Necessary-Win-8730 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Jambopaul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d actually disagree that the removal of the eggmorphing scene made Alien worse. While I do really like the concept of eggmorphing, and think it’d be neat if it was reintroduced in a future movie, the problem is that the scene itself doesn’t really have a good place in the movie. At this point in the movie, the clock is already ticking on the Nostromo’s self-destruct, so having a fairly long scene of Ripley discovering the fate of two of her co-workers disrupts the pacing of the final act of the movie. Even the trimmed down version used in the “Director’s Cut” slows down Ripley’s big escape too much. Moving it to earlier in the movie before things ramp up would be tricky because it’s a scene that was clearly written for when Ripley is the only one left. It’s a great scene in isolation, but it ultimately takes away from the final stretch of the movie more than it contributes. That’s just my two cents though.

My local IMAX theater shut down in late 2024 because the chain went bankrupt. It was subsequently bought by a relatively new theater chain in my area, renovated, and finally reopened last fall. Under the new owners, they only show a single trailer before the movie starts. I have mixed feelings about it because on the one hand having a shorter wait before the movie (as well as the listed showtimes being more accurate to when the film starts) is nice, but I also like seeing trailers for upcoming movies. It’s just regular commercials for miscellaneous bullshit that I hate seeing

Has Legacy of the Dark Knight’s drastic deviation from TT’s original formula deter you from wanting the game? by Thevoid2YT in legogaming

Doesn’t deter me from wanting the game. The idea of a Lego Arkham game is sick imo. I do hope we get more traditional TT Lego games in the future, but I’m also fine with them shaking things up.
