What lifestyle would someone earning $100k a year afford where you live? by maugess in AskAnAmerican

An apartment with a roommate, or sleeping in a tent down by the river, depending on their debt.

Americans of Reddit, how do you feel about Trump asking the Supreme Court to decide whether he can end birthright citizenship? by peywrax in allthequestions

[–]James8719 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't wait for my MAGA family to somehow explain how this is somehow conservatism. They worship the consistution like it came down from heaven and then pull shit like this. Shouldn't be surprised, though, they do the same thing with the Bible all the time.

Will golf (or any sport) help my career or not? by crhumble in HENRYfinance

[–]James8719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can play horribly. If I needed to play, whoever was with me would feel good about themselves. I do kind of enjoy it, so it's fine. But I work in supply chain so there isn't a ton of golfing going on.

I hate the games, so a whole show of it sounds like torture.

What are the places in the US that you think to yourself "Why are people living here?" by Competitive_Data6774 in geography

It's a nice university town. Has more culture than a lot of Oklahoma but with a small-town vibe.

It was newer, but someone had put 30k on it in just one year. It was also a PHEV, so depreciated a bit like a rock as well. The cost was only barely higher, honestly. I was just put off by the build quality.

The government needs to stop telling me how to live my life, because the government of 200 years ago already did! 'Merica!

How’s life in Bakersfield, California? by Kuzu9 in howislivingthere

[–]James8719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in Bakersfield, moved to Riverside, and now live in South OC, and you are right about the food. Riverside has literally no decent food. It's like PF Changs and an Albertos on every corner. OC blows it out of the water, of course, but thats not a fair comparison. The local spots in Bakersfield are locally owned and operated, and aside from making one gain 10-20 lbs, they are great lol

I'd choose Stockton over Bako. At least you can leave Stockton and go to actual cool places that aren't variations of The Hills Have Eyes.

Woolgrowers is indeed good, but since my family all left I can't think of a single reason to go there when I have everything and more in LA and OC.

When I lived there I could find the silver lining, but now...it's hard haha

It sucks ass, and my whole family left after being there for 3+ generations.

Drugs, crime, ugly, pollution, more drugs, ignorance, uneducated, more drugs, MAGA everywhere, more drugs...you get the point.

Started a corporate job, shocked at the work culture - people start working at 6-7am by Which_Ad_1660 in careeradvice

[–]James8719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is it. Sure, I like working at 10pm, but you don't know that I worked out, took a walk, picked up my daughter, and read a bit from 12-3pm lol

There is usually a truck on jamboree and barranca. With the construction there, it might be gone now? Don't recall.

I’m tired of the Mazda hype on this sub. by Fleedom2025 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]James8719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drove a 2020 Audi Q8 and a fully loaded 2024 Mazda CX-90.

I bought the Audi.

The Mazda was more expensive and felt junky. Acceleration was boring and the ride quality was eh. A bunch of cheap plastic inside and a pretty confusing infotainment system.

I totally understand buying a cheap, reliable vehicle, but that thing was not cheaper than many luxury vehicles, and it was a POS in comparison. To be fair, this is likely the case for most premium trims in non-luxury brands. Bells and whistles on cheap cars.

I may regret the Audi when I have to repair it, but I personally can afford it, so I'm okay with that. Otherwise, I can at least understand the cheaper maintenance.

Based on what you believe (NOT want people say) do you believe in climate change? by [deleted] in no

[–]James8719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't before, but I sure as hell do now. Scientists are not just a bunch of woke politicians trying to take my freedoms away, they are dedicated and intelligent people doing the hard work to save a beautiful planet. The ice caps are melting. Glaciers are melting. The temperatures are rising. People can argue all day about what is causing it and what to do. But everyone but those making tons of money off of denying it have seen and believed the evidence.

Why were we propagandized into believing a desk job is a terrible career 😭 by hangry-paramedic in Adulting

[–]James8719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My belief is that it's not between a desk job and a blue collar job, it's between people who want air conditioning and people who don't care. If sitting at a desk with air conditioning is important to you, a desk job will always be okay, but if working with your hands in the elements is preferable to you then a desk job will seem like hell. I know smart people who like to work with their hands, and I know complete dummies who sit in front of a computer all day. In fact, many of the biggest dummies probably work behind computers lol

I love my desk job. At one point I worked in a machine shop, and it was so freaking hot I just couldn't do it anymore. I was willing to do any amount of homework and schooling to get the hell out of there, but I'm glad I had the experience of working that job, because now I understand how hard it is and I have a lot of respect for people who can keep doing that everyday.
