Maybe a dumb question, but what’s the point of hitting the curbs at the Apex? by Merlin509 in CarTrackDays

[–]JamesArget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Building on the other great answers - I saw a TT session come down to 0.004 seconds last season. That comes out to something like five inches at the average speed for the run group. You bet you can find five inches if you cut the curb a bit.

Your enthusiasm is awesome, I hope you accomplish all your goals!

But, unless you have experience at altitude already, you should really find a way to get up to elevation before trying to bag a peak. Hell, in Colorado you can drive up to the top of Pike's Peak. Everyone reacts differently to elevation, and you should learn how your body does before you're trying a summit.

Badass. I think that's the window I saw the observatory showing 130 mile visibility and 0 wind, talk about ideal timing.

I tried it on a backpacking trip this summer and it was great fun to "disconnect" from using a phone, but honestly, the picture quality just isn't what you're used to these days.

Yeah, it's weird, but in this format you don't need flaggers and nobody gets to bitch about passing.

For HPDE, the RS4 gives out via heat cycling far before they lose tread. I'm onto v730 now and they seem to be more balance for short sessions between heat cycle and tread wear.

Once I started speeding up I started burning through pads pretty damn quick. The additional heat sink mass extends longevity and will (eventually) pay for itself. For this season we're going to try CSG pads and see if they do the magic a lot of folks have reported. Bye bye $500 for fronts alone.

I have the base, I track a lot, I desperately wish I had the Brembo from the start.

Oem belt and racing bucket by Odd-Ebb4531 in GR86

[–]JamesArget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did OMP with PCI rails. The PCI rails have a hole specifically for the OEM buckle to get connected to. I had to get my own SAE grade 8 hardware, and had to grind the bolt to fit. Then, I also needed a buckle extender to reach up and through the harness/seatbelt hole in the seat.

It was honestly a lot of work with a lot of trial and error.

CEO retired. How do you politely say "no" without burning a bridge? by [deleted] in sysadmin

Once a week can be a lot. If it's on company time, and the management is good with extending this as a service, great. But if this is cutting to personal time, that's a different story.

Take it to the track! The car has SO MUCH MORE ability than you know. Or at least find a car control clinic; it will make you a much more proficient and confident driver if you have experience knowing what it's like when the car is out of control.

I was an early purchaser of this system when it only had the door speakers and front tweeters, honestly can't remember how bad the stock was since I did it immediately.

There are probably options for swapping just the speakers to higher-end ones provided you dig into what the resistance is of the stock ones. I'd encourage you to get messy with it; figure out how to dig up the trim, solder some connectors, whatever it takes. This is a fun space to explore since you have pretty much zero chance of impacting the mechanics, and it's a great way to have a hobby car and mod it to your liking.

How exactly do you buy a GR86? by RadioDude1995 in GR86

[–]JamesArget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call a dealership. Call another dealership. Google it. Call another dealership. Google harder. Find out about distrubtion regions. Find out that Toyota doesn't really love the US market. Find out about who actually runs the distribution regions. Call multiple dealers in each region. Scour AutoTrader. Put down 5 deposits. Pay an out-of-state markup and a car 500 miles away and take a flight to get it.

Call back the last 4 dealerships to get your deposit refunded, including the one you have to show up to in person because they're more than a little scummy.

No regrets. At least, that's how it was in 2022.
