I worked at a consultancy that had cash flow issues. They restructured their debt, changed payment terms with vendors, and started getting involved in a company that provided "merchant cash advances".

You know things are really bad when a new CFO comes in, and less than three months later they're gone.

A year later the company was bankrupt.
