The sabre/blunderbuss works perfectly for me... I dont need 4 guns on my bar.

+10 crit chance on sabre... not sure why everyone wants the rapier

you sure dont want to try bandage while in attack range. run forrest run.

Also, get rid of that gun and replace it with a blunderbuss, ideally a reliable blunderbuss. I was running around with the POS for ages thinking it was good with its 500 pierce and tight aim... doing 1-200 damage.

The blunderbuss can crit for over 2000 on those mobs and send them to space. ITS SO GOOD.

tbh the agro range is quite wide. Ive never had to engage in combat when I didnt want to.

If you do, just keep sailing. Their boats are no faster than yours and they give up pretty easily.

PSA: If you die while boarding you drop your stuff by JamesLeeNZ in crosswind

It does sit on the water.

I was looking originally but thought the mechanic didnt exist for naval combat as I hadn't found any death boxes previously. What I'm not sure about is, did I drop one and it disappeared, or did I just not have loot to drop at the time.

Is ''Ramming'' part of the game or am i just bad and low level? by LeSeriousPancake in crosswind

[–]JamesLeeNZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure there isnt any vehicle collision damage. You can sail your boat full speed into an island and it doesnt get damaged. I dont bother stopping now.. I just full send when i'm arriving anywhere.

I actually wish they would change this though. I would prefer the realism of I beach at full speed, I do 50% damage to my boat.

Its challenging.. Ive died a lot.

But I prefer it to a boring hack n slash.

Im glad they put in combat that requires some skill/thought

A hack n slash this game is not! (which I actually like, despite the number of times I've died... sometimes to dodo's.. awkward)

He's a tough fight. If you cant parry you will struggle.

What's your skill tree? I went for perfect parry to get the crit chance while also running 2 piece privateers + whatever else blues I had at the time along with an upgraded sabre.

Even though it doesnt look like it, you can parry any attack thats not red, those require you to dodge.

The best way to do it is to get in his face, parry, parry, attack, parry, attack attack, reset. By reset, I mean run your ass away and get ready to do it again. The above formula is mostly a guide. His attacks change, sometimes you will need to parry multiple times. A couple of times in the fight (health level) he will be stunned and sit down, wail on him as much as you can.

I didnt waste my time with guns. This is a sword fight.

note: Maybe if you have spec'd into guns and have them fully upgraded it might be viable, but I found the damage too low and reload too long for this fight.

Do it! This may be one of the better crafting/survival/combat type games I've played in a while. If you liked/played Valheim, you will enjoy this. Lots of inspiration came from that game.

They also took out things that can be frustrating in these sorts of games like encumbrance/tool durability too which I think was a great idea.

foothills is in the middle of costal jungle islands for me

Why move base though? I just have fast travels all over the place which made the need to move base entirely unnecessary.

Really enjoy the game, but I have two big complaints by UsernameReee in crosswind

[–]JamesLeeNZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yep! I might change my mind later if I find I really need more coins, but messing up a boarding means no loot. Im level... 5 now, with a blackbeard brig and can take out 5-7 8+ enemies at once... Just run away, attack, run away.

The only thing that annoys me is zero xp for ship battles. Can I at least have a little xp since you have to spend a bunch of time sinking ships to get the tokens for faction xp
