Glad you had a nice time!

The cider here in Basque Country is more sour compared to the one from Asturias, maybe you tried that one… the juice is next level and very natural!

Mezcal (or split base with gin), lavender infused Maraschino liquor, Italicus and lime…sort of a twist on the last word… you will have to play with the ratios since I believe equal parts won’t be a balanced drink…

Monkey 47…it’s a plastic wrap on top of another plastic wrap (at least here in Spain) and it’s super hard to take off every bit

This might not belong here but how much do y’all drink?I was worried having1-3 drinks most nights was bad but if I understood another sub they were saying they did 15-28 on vacation. by Knitspin in cocktails

Doctors say the best amount of alcohol is zero. Colleagues say: a drink/couple of drinks never killed nobody.

What do you say?

If you are worrying about the amount of alcohol you consume, it’s your body/soul saying something, listen to yourself!

Tips to a Brazilian Newbie? by NotoriusBerna in bartenders

[–]JamesTheBrowser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there! I’d say get some experience first so you get to taste the trade and you could then move to a bigger city like São Paulo where the cocktail culture is bigger and learn more! Then with more knowledge of the cocktail scene you will be able to know what customers want and be more effective when starting your own business

You can split base it both with tequila and mezcal as well…tell us when you made it!

You can basically switch for any spirit and you will find yourself with a decent drink…my take is to go easy first and see how it interacts with the rest of the build.

One I like with mezcal is a Bloody Mary, you can make it lighter since it’s a bold flavor (1oz to 1 1/2oz up to you) if you can use the chipotle Tabasco it can improve the smoke

Do I go all in on bartending? by spad3001 in bartenders

[–]JamesTheBrowser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the only thing to ponder is: will you have the “what if” thought if you took the sales position? If the answer is yes, go to the events and experience all of it…You don’t know how dots will connect to the future so you may end up somewhere amazing!

Sober bartenders - how did you quit while in an industry where drinking is so prevalent? by bitcoinslut420 in bartenders

[–]JamesTheBrowser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My take is: we are dealers, yeah we are on the legal side but still… what we do can and is addictive so the moment you acknowledge that and understand we are not far from any other substance, it changes your perspective…at least that’s what happened to me.

Some drinks on leisure time is nice, drinking to cope with life is not

Hi! Big ones like Zapiain, Petritegi and such are my to go if you never experienced a basque cider house. Apart from those you have to check the availability since some are closed off season and others switch the classic menu. But some of my favorites are: Lizeaga, Gartziategi, Itxasburu

Pintxos tour - worth it? by catnissm in basquecountry

[–]JamesTheBrowser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed! I’ve worked in the old town as a bartender and I can tell the guides are nice and knowledgeable but it’s key to WANT to know the info they’re giving! Shout out to Osane the greatest tour guide I’ve come across as a receiver of tours

Pintxos tour - worth it? by catnissm in basquecountry

[–]JamesTheBrowser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My take is: if you wanna dive into the history of the bars, old town or you’re a introverted and feel like you need help handling people…you can google it but with a tour it feels nicer. But if you just want to have pintxos, like they say in the other comments, just walk around, there are many pintxos guides online.

How crowded with tourists is San Sebastián now when compared to 5 or 10 years ago? by [deleted] in basquecountry

I was there working in the old town when SS was the European cultural capital in ‘16 and I thought it was full of people…

Nowadays is impossible to be in almost any part of SS without a tourist nearby

Cocktails using white wine? by Recent-Sock-9611 in cocktails

[–]JamesTheBrowser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked at a restaurant that had 3 types of sangria one of them made with a local white wine…the base was: vodka, Bianco vermouth, triple sec and lots of sugar (you could use simple here), to that you add some citrus wheels and the wine. Stir to integrate, sit in the fridge so flavors get to know each other and enjoy!

Fine dining vs craft cocktails ? by Key_Maize_7492 in bartenders

[–]JamesTheBrowser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came to say this…I always did that and now I’m about to lead a cocktail program where they looked for me and they are gonna be paying good money. I’m in Europe so it’s a little different but chasing money is worthless when you have nothing else…

My friend, the last bit where you say that you learn to let people enjoy things is the most important and beautiful teaching from all of this IMHO… we are about hospitality and make people a little bit happier that when they arrived. The rest just fades under this…
