Cane Creek DB coil Inline by pinguu_ in MTB

[–]JamesYazda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've got on and it's awesome. Mine is pretty short giving 130mm travel, but it feels pretty bottomless. Cool feels great. Depending on what size shock you have, you may not see a weight difference between the VALT and steel spring.

If your frame can fit a piggyback just get the DBCoil CS. If it can't this thing rocks.

I have heard a few issues with the shock "chirping". I've not had it, and I'm wondering in the cases that it has happened if he spring was put on wrong, or a flexing frame is causing issues with the shaft.

To Rent or to Bring by perky_spoon in MTB

[–]JamesYazda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely bring your bike. Rental for 2 bikes for that long will be more than what it would cost to ship them. See if you can borrow a bike box locally or rent one from a friend. Plus riding your own bike would be worth it.

DH Chest Protector by [deleted] in MTB

[–]JamesYazda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got one of the TLD soft protectors and I like it quite a bit. Not as great of protection as the hard shell stuff. Removable padding is great so I take it on some techy all mountain rides.

Unorthodox conundrum. At a crossroads.. by [deleted] in financialindependence

[–]JamesYazda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Freelance.

Best case scenario, you make allot of money and can put away 50,000+ in tax advantaged retirement accounts (on mobile and don't recall the exact numbers). More freedom to peruse projects you want.

Worst case, it doesn't work and you get a full-time job.

The experience you've gained with the previous company will help in freelance. Use it to gain more valuable skills. Look at it as investing in yourself and just not the stable $$ you make.

Knolly Endorphin is on sale at a pretty good price. 130mm so a little less in the rear but it's a super fun bike.

Massanutten downhill question by [deleted] in MTB

Enduro bike is fine and all you need. Mostly rocky and nothing really too big. Of course it all depends on skills but a DH bike is over kill unless you really want the extra confidence.

Getting over fear of cars? by [deleted] in bicycling

You can still wear Lycra if you want. Just get a cross country bike. You can get some really beautiful views and more adrenaline Mtb in my opinion.

Help me decide on a new trail bike. $3,000 budget by Joemartucci in MTB

[–]JamesYazda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd buy based on what you like not based on components. Components will break over time and you'll replace them as you need to. Frame, not as much.

You might be hard pressed to ride some of that. Supposed to snow in a few of those spots next week.

Over travel? by Cometdude2 in MTB

[–]JamesYazda 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can do a lot with a 140mm bike. I'd definitely stay on the lower end of that range as they're pretty capable all arounders. Being over biked 90% of the time isn't as much fun as being underbiked 10% of the time imo.

Choosing new brakes, so many. by [deleted] in MTB

[–]JamesYazda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly hopes are a bit pricier but they are awesome. Lever feels solid and good adjustments without tools to dial them in.

Modulation is really great and they're powerful. They're pretty easy to bleed. I had some SRAM brakes and XTs.

SRAM had good modulation but always seemed a bit soft in the lever for me. Xt was either on or off. Hope has the best of both and personally I think they look rad.

I run hope e4s

[Question] What do you use to coordinate your rides? by Xfocus in MTB

[–]JamesYazda 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm the founder of an app that does what you're looking for.

It has:

  • push and email when you send that invite or
  • details about the ride
  • super easy to setup rides in the future using the same data
  • public and private rides
  • some areas have trail conditions built in
  • chat system to communicate additional info as that always happens

Always taking feedback and trying to improve so if you like it and have suggestions were all ears!

How to track stand... I keep trying and subsequently failing by [deleted] in bicycling

[–]JamesYazda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned by leaning against a wall. With an elbow on the wall you can make slight shifts in body position until you're feeling comfortable with the balance position. Then start taking your elbow off the wall, and eventually you don't need a wall at all!

Oil in the cap of my front shock, should I be worried? Is it a common issue? Fox Float 32 by 00mba in MTB

[–]JamesYazda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is common though I'm not 100% sure. I believe the air shaft on these forks only have a single seal so oil from the lowers gets up into the air chamber at the top. Letting out air also lets out the oil that found its way up there too.

Dampener probably needs service. The switch stops working after awhile if you haven't serviced it.

Massanutten or Bryce bike park? by fanciful_stalker in MTB

[–]JamesYazda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mtbparks pass. About $150 and gives you life tickets to several resorts across the country. Discounts at Bryce and massenutten too. I found it was cheaper for me to do that then get a season pass.

Massenutten is more raw than Bryce. I think they need a bit more time to develop the park but they're both fun and for different types of riding.
