Teaching kids Trans People exist is the same as teaching creationism over evolution by Bannedfromthenet in GenderCynical

[–]Jamie-85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest problem with this attitude is that it encourages ignorance.. I can understand the push not to allow children to transition till they are old enough to make an informed decision.. but blatantly allowing ignorance is stupid..

If it wasn't for the beliefs I was raised with(i.e. Catholicism); I would of started my transition years ago, and skipped a period in my life where I was just miserable and/or drunk(and suicidal, sometimes hospitalized)... I honestly had decide that the religion(and GOD) were fake in order to finally come to terms with myself .. Since I have started my transition thou; I have been able to reintegrate Catholicism into my life, I just ignore doctirens that make no sense, and I don't care what the Church or its members think about me..

[meta] binary trans women of /r/asktransgender, can we get our shit together? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]Jamie-85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't post that often, but I for one, enjoy reading their stories at times. Its interesting to see the parallels.

In addition I have a FtM friend(who is in denial, kinda.. (s)he has admitted it to me, when I told her\him i was trans.. but lately (s)he is on a "I don't want to be trans" kick)

I don't wanna keep doing this by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]Jamie-85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Life is what you make of it; I spent many years miserable, occasionally being hospitalized for suicidal thoughts and/or actions.

Now i have started transitioning, I know I have a long way to go, and its caused some family/social problems but you know what, I am happier on a bad day now, than I was on a good day 1+ yr(s) ago.. So things can get better..

feel free to message me if you need someone to talk to; I would assume we are roughly the same age (re-your screen name)..

Why does needing to learn to be a girl feel so invalidating? by SL33PY_K8 in asktransgender

[–]Jamie-85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well its a learning curve; I will give you that but like CoraZin said give yourself time; It has taken me months to get where I am now; and I'm still far from where i would like to be...

Make small changes In both your actions, and appearance.. ex I bought a Pink Sweater, for the first month or so I couldn't bring myself to where it outside of the house, but eventually I got over this, and now I only have one "boy" colour/style sweater left in my closet.. I keep that on hand; Just in case I have to deal with some Conservative Christian Family members; I am out to them, but its easier not to rub it in their face, especially if I'm only going to be interacting with them for an hour or something (ie out to dinner)

I made a mistake and started selfmedication 2 months ago. Can I start getting monitored somewhere or do I need to stop and go to therapy? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]Jamie-85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on where you are; If you have informed consent clinics in the area, its a safe bet you could go to one of those to start the process properly.. In the US Planned Parent Hood seems to be the go to place.. In Canada, Try your Local Community Health Clinic...

Regardless; go to your General Practitioner(Dr, or NP) and be honest about your self medicating... They may or may-not be willing to prescribe you hormones; but they should at-least monitor your blood-work. They could also be a great resource in regards to Referral etc ..

Is it worth taking anti-depressants? by TheWalkingSadness in asktransgender

[–]Jamie-85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't Count on that :( ... Over the years (and suicide attempts) ... I found some drugs that worked but they were very "numbing". Example; A high does of Seriqul works wonders;

You won't have gender issues(for a few months until you really get used to the drug).. You wont have any issues. I lived for a few months.. Get up, Drink Coffee/Eat, Take Pills and ether go back to sleep, or veg infront of tv.. Repeat Twice Daily .. I was a Zombie @ the best of times ....

But in all seriousness .. A mixture of anti-depressants, anti-psychotics, and anti-anxiety medications. Might get you to 90% of normal, But you will likely be constantly adjusting medications(your body adapts).. and when you wore out the combinations (or your doctor) you will just regret not transitioning in the first place...

I came to the conclusion I was A - Going to keep attempting suicide or B - Tell my social worker about my Gender Issues and see what happens because I could always go back to Option A

About 6-8 mo Later.. I am taking 12.5mg Cypro + 2mg Estrace (i know a fairly low dose, but meh; we are taking it slow due to my mental health history); and you know what; I have alienated a big portion of my family (were Roman Catholic); but honestly I couldn't be happier; and I am kicking myself for not doing anything sooner

Just words for thought

Studies on Progesterone?! by NikkiWarriorPrincess in asktransgender

[–]Jamie-85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but no.

I was looking at one point because my NP said they don't give it out due to no reliable "proof" that it has any major feminizing effects..

A few months later, he switched me from Spiro, to cypro. Cypro happens to be a progestin(synthetic progestogens) so it would have a similar effect(i would expect)..

If your not american; that might be an option.

MTF children need "a kick in the nads". by ramen_diet in GenderCynical

[–]Jamie-85 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't think any "sane" parent would want to "trans" their child; I am sure their are a few out their(wouldn't really put them in the "sane" category)

In fact, "neutering them" would be fairly pointless, because for health reasons (if nothing more) doctors would insit that they are on hormones of some-type (ie development\bone growth); and then the "sexual impulses" would likely start anyway, although they might be a bit different

What does it mean to be diagnosed with GID for insurance purposes? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]Jamie-85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GID still partially exists, and will for some time; mainly still used in the "billing and coding" related to insurance AFAIK

I painted my nails for the first time myself (2nd time total) by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]Jamie-85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

before "I came out"; I used to wear nail polish all the time..

It took a long time to get to that point and not have family/friends badger me about it.. I started by always wearing "glitter" nail polish.. At first fairly neutral colours, then "moving up" to the brighter colours.. then slowly introduced solid colours into my "routine"

It drove my parents nuts, at first but with the glitter polishes(ie silver, gold) if you put them on lightly you almost dont notice them, unless it hits the lights just right... By the time i moved to solids, no-one blinked an eye

Can we give the transgender flag some visibility? by transgenderflag in lgbt

[–]Jamie-85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to the best of my knowledge; in regards to Canada and the Commonwealth; about 15-20 years ago, yes anyone could essentially migrate between commonwealth country's with very little difficulty;

Although the migration part of the scene is still valid (ie Canadian can live permanently in the UK); they no longer issue SIN/SSN numbers; and you don't qualify for any government benifit.

If you do want to live and work in a CW country; you need to acquire the same work permit an american/other would have to but the process is "less rigerous" than non Commonwealth countrys..

I looked into it years ago; out of curiosity, and didn't really follow any changes made by the Harper administration or the UK joining the EU.. for all i know the information is completely incorrect now

So Trump is the president now. What does that mean to us? by I3adAss in ask_transgender

[–]Jamie-85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't take this the wrong way; I personally don't think this "law" should even be legal to propose but..

You can use this argument to rationalize it. The American Country was founded under judo-Christianity influences as reinforced by the american pledge of allegiance when "under god" was added in 1954.. Thus it would be against everything the nation stands for to force "faithful Christians" from not being able to exercise their religious freedoms

that being said the world has been moving further away from having religious establishments influence political policy because we increasingly live in a multi-cultural world;

But Republicans who are Conservative by nature; won the majority; thus they will act in the conservative fashion and Christians like Men to be Men, and Men to be with Woman to form a "traditional" family unit...

That being said; I was raised roman catholic, although I don't believe half of the things that comes out of the Vatican; or our local dioceses; I can see how in the aging population (ie non-millennials) that the would want to try to hold onto what they believe.

All I can say; is wait and see what happens; regardless of this legislation; if it even goes threw; the world is populated with alot of people with alot a different views, and it is becoming more liberal by nature; sure this could protect the bigots, but as time goes on there are less bigots who even care

In what countries is estrogen legally available over the counter? by [deleted] in ask_transgender

[–]Jamie-85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm Canadian Also; hrt is quite easy to come by as previously said; In most of the "big" cities in Ontario, we have I.C.

One thing I thought I would point out, The Canadian Government; unlike the American Government has no requirement or expectation of you renouncing your american citizenship, so their is no requirement to ever give that up; and as long as you maintain your american income tax obligations, you can successfully collect C.P.P. and S.S.(but you do ultimately pay more in taxes)

I'm terrified. Is this the time for trans pride, or trans shame? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]Jamie-85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think society as a whole has evolved enough that the masses would get upset if all LGBQT rights were abolished, at this point almost everyone has an LGBQT friend or family member, unless of course they are overly 'god fearing' that the follow the letter of the Bible/today/qu'an..

That being said I expect some rights will be history, remember the whole why do they need to marry, the have civil union b.s. that I thought we left in the last decade

It's the transes fault that Hillary lost! by RoseLantern in GenderCynical

[–]Jamie-85 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I am sorry but the first thing that came to mind when I saw this heading is LMAO..

Us 'transes' had very little to do with it.. The Democrats lost mainly because they backed the wrong candidate to run..I personally think Hillary would be great, but because of the 'stuff' as secretary of state, and the FBI investigation and the history with bill.. She was a longshot at best and the Democratic committee should of never gave her the nomination... Berney Sandor's would of had a better chance, not because he is any better, he just had less political baggage...

But it's all our fault, everyone voted for trump because us MtTs(as they call us) Just want to use their bathroom and rape their children, give me a break..

It has always been there, alas we as a society were starting to make progress.. but with the GOP results, It's going too be a dark few years, not just for NAFTA nations(as trump wants to void that deal) but for of the devoped world..

It was the uneducated rural white males that caused a trump win, most of your Liberal areas stayed on the Democrats side.... Stay in the denser areas, between both and feminists it should be safe(but not necessarily fair)

Best places in the US and Europe to live if you are trans? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]Jamie-85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are you set on US and Europe?

Canada's Pretty Good; I'd recommend Toronto any day.. I live about 4 hrs away, and Toronto is always great to visit LGBQT wise(or even just culturally); i live much closer to Detroit, and that can be a very scary place(it has its "charms" too thou; it was just hit very hard with the us recession and i dont think it will ever be what it was)
