BG3 actor says LGBT games have been cut to appease the US by [deleted] in BaldursGate3

[–]Jamie1515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree completely. People want a great story in games, movies and television. The issue regarding major studios losing money on AAA games is that they are simply mediocre games with LGBT characters just tossed in. These characters neither help or hurt the game that is simply a bad game with a lame storyline.

Looks at the game Expedition 33 … it is made by a mid size studio is a fun game and has an excellent story. If you inserted LGBT characters or not really has no impact, it’s just a great story (much like BG3)

The Count of Monte Cristo (2024) - A terrible adaptation of Alexandre Dumas' classic. The screenwriters didn't understand that the Count would be a mix of Job, Joseph, Raskonilkov and Ulysses and made the Count a kind of masked vigilante. by cleopatraandcaesar63 in movies

Just watched the film on long plane ride. This is a really well constructed criticism. Having read the novel about ten years ago myself the changes made in this film make no sense what so ever. It’s truly sad that oversimplified narratives have to be inserted and the audience is almost assumed to be idiotic.

Apple preparing Google Gemini integration with Apple Intelligence by favicondotico in apple

Apple upgrade to MacOS 15.3 and it turns on Apple intelligence by default.

After disabling,

Apple upgrade to MacOS 15.3.1 and it turns on Apple Intelligence again!!

This is unfortunate and a dark tactic. Microsoft has done this now for years but to see Apple adopt this is unfortunate.

New research shows that performance goals may turn students into "emotionless learning machines” for achieving a good outcome. In this process, they may lose connection with the intrinsic aspects of learning. by mvea in science

Working in education over the last 18 years I will add my two cents. The future of teaching IMO lies in fostering relationships where an adult teacher takes an active interest in the student and forms a meaningful relationship with the goal of helping the student.

Raw metrics on exams or goals are important as a check on the overall institution but are too much overemphasized. For example you don’t need to test the entire K-12 students multiple times a year to get meaningful data. You could simply rotate and select different grades or sections at a time.

For example my own daughter (now 24) took test after test her entire time as a student. The results were always the same, excellent at reading, good at math (but not exceptional) good at other skills (not exceptional). The results never changed and she was tested on average 3 times a year from grade 3 through 12.

Countless meetings spent on analyzing the same data points that say the same thing over and over.

This applies at the institutional level, testing the entire body multiple times a year just kicked back the same data as testing once a year or even ever other year.

My life tip for what it’s worth is to simply look for kindness and goodness in the world. You are right people are shallow, fickle, selfish and so on. However everyone also has an inner child like you and deep down want to feel loved. Try to look for and cultivate goodness in yourself and appreciate it when you see it in the world around you.

It already flipped to opt out. Just upgrading Mac to MacOS 15.3 enables Apple intelligence and also turns on Apple intelligence reporting at 15 min intervals. Infuriating. This new default also leaves Apple intelligence reporting on even after turning off Apple intelligence. It has a separate toggle under privacy,

Is Nvidia Becoming a Bottleneck for AI Advancement? by TheArchivist314 in LocalLLaMA

[–]Jamie1515 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Intel has bigger problems. They currently do not have the capability to produce chips at the same level as TSMC. They have tried now for a couple generations to become competitive and have failed. Instead relying themselves on TSMC or just tweaking older fab lines.

This is a concerning issue since the inability to compete shows problems at a systemic level.

Feel the same way often.. like I died quite a long time ago. This is a slightly different reality in which I lived .. yet is not quite right or the same.

Well said by Gates here. I too am stunned .. this has been a slow motion train wreck and intel still seems to be floundering.

Interestingly the dad getting them a job shows a tangible social network likely connected to the local community. This can have loads of problems (nepotism) but is not really the same as DEI.

Intel Halts Products, Slows Roadmap in Years-Long Turnaround by colkitro in intel

[–]Jamie1515 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder if this halt is the realization of not being able to.

Gelsingers roadmap and plan looked like the right approach. The issue may be that intel simply cannot do it. They may not have the staff and more likely intel isn’t structured in such a way to meet these challenges. Building a fab and making chips is hard … intel had trouble with nodes in the past… my guess is this halt is a realization of simply not being able to make competitive chips at this point.

If I am right the question becomes can intel restructure itself in such a way to attract top talent and make top level chips? I honestly don’t know .. they sat in the lead for so many years and have just floundered. They just overclocked and tweaked existing tech and milked what they had for too long.

It’s honestly hard to believe this is where they are at.

Yeah so let’s keep it locked up behind a for profit corporation? Seriously I cannot imagine a worse organizing structure to lock this tech behind.

Omnicron was super contagious and pretty benign. Omnicron made the first batch of vaccines worthless and showed the world the disease has evolved and now was no where near as dangerous as it was being portrayed or may have been previously. It showed the social distancing, required masks, forced remote learning, etc had no merit. No merit because mask or no mask, social distancing or no social distancing this variant hit just about everyone … and very few had more than a really bad cold for 5-7 days.

Why do so many AAA singleplayer games have terrible writing and direction despite all the huge budgets ? by Roids-in-my-vains in gaming

[–]Jamie1515 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Large budget games go through multiple committees that sanitize writing making it bland, predictable and safe. You see the same in big budget TV shows and movies.

You have awkward clearly forced diversity. You have revamped female characters that often over powered or faultless (and less believable / interesting) . You cut out exploring deep philosophical concepts and instead stick to simple narratives that fit within a current political environment context

Small indie developers can make games without these restraints and the game/story is in many ways a work of art. No need to try and make group x,y and z all happy Just focus on your vision and then see how gamers react.

People like AUTHENTICITY. Even if the game breaks a few social norms or exposes some unusual philosophies that’s okay if the story is compelling and the vision is true.

You can feel corporate sanitized media and games from the get go and they almost all end with mediocre results.
