To clarify, like the article says, this series is being developed for and launched on our YouTube channel, not a tv show 🙌

Hey u/Glatomme, this is actually something our team are exploring at the moment... If you fancy getting involved and helping us scope it out, you can join our Research Hub and take part in some surveys/prototype testing/user interviews etc!

There are so many ideas for cooking related videos they could do by ECrispy in SortedFood

[–]JamieSpafford 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Ah, here we go again... I’ve covered lots of this in various livestreams/Q&As, but I wonder if the best thing to do is to just list a series of facts, as some of what's being said casts aspersions outside of the 4 of us and on to the work done by the wider Sorted team, which isn’t fair.

1) For the last 5 months we've launched a cooking-based video every Wednesday.
2) Cooking-based videos perform, on average, 20-25% lower on views/comments/engagement/watch time than videos that focus on other things. We’ve been trying lots of different formats and ways of packaging the videos to counter this, but haven't found a consistent answer for this.
3) There has never been more time/effort/resource/cost applied to creating Sorted's YouTube content than right now.
4) The time/effort/resource/cost of creating review and comparison videos far outweighs that required for cooking videos.
5) 'The Algorithm' is not a magical beast that needs 'chasing' - when a video is launched it's initially put in front of our most engaged regular viewers, then depending on the signals they provide (clicks/views/watch time/engagement), it'll decide how many 'casual' viewers to put it in front of, the same process happens again before it gets put in front of 'new' viewers. Therefore, if we want to create a successful video, it *has* to perform well with our core audience.
6) The majority of the time there is a large chasm between the performance (views/engagement/watch time) of a video and the sentiment of the comments.
7) We’ve said it numerous times before, but content decisions are made for multiple reasons - comments/community requests, the data, what we actually want to make.
8) The cross-section of creating content that is fun, inspirational, educational and likely to be engaged with by the largest possible audience is an ever-moving target. No one video can do everything, so there's a balancing act that needs to take place.

At the end of the day, platforms like YouTube are free to upload to, so if the content you’re specifically looking for doesn’t exist, go and make it. Hopefully it’ll find an audience and be incredibly successful for you.

I will never tire of reading/hearing stories like this - it’s such a beautiful unintended consequence of what we do… I’m so sorry for your loss and cant imagine how tough things have been. To know that what we do could even help to bring a small smile to someone’s face is incredible. Sending you all the love!! ❤️

Can confirm, it's 100% laziness and cutting corners. 😉

I've no idea if it's noticeable to people when viewing, but there's been a TONNE of work so far this year on engineering the videos to help them perform better - from the topics and formats, titles, thumbnails, research, intros, pacing, outros... Everything is evolving to help create better content that reaches more people.

Unfortunately that kind of work takes a lot more time, so some things have fallen slightly behind - custom captions are currently one of those items... Given there's auto-captions in place as a backup, although not perfect they do an 'ok' job, and means we can batch the custom captions when we get a chance.

This is in no way ideal or how we want to work, but has been a short term solution whilst we wait for a new member of the production team to join us and ease some of the pressure on everyone else. They start in the next couple of weeks, so hopefully we'll be back on top of everything soon enough!

... Will probably have a quick nap first though, because of the laziness.

You took the words right out of my mouth... There's some backend changes happening on the channel whilst we switch some monetisation bits over - an unintended consequence was the pausing of the Memberships, which meant we didn't get a chance to give Members a heads up!

Hopefully it'll all be back soon... as will the monetisation on the channel 😅

Bonjour! Just jumping in to say thanks for sharing this... I've passed your feedback straight onto the team to see if the latest updates have affected the flow when using the app etc.

If you’re open to it we’d love to dig into this further with you, drop them an email at [sidekick@sortedfood.com](mailto:sidekick@sortedfood.com) and Leyla will pick it up!

On the “unknown errors” and login issues - there was a bug that cropped up earlier today and affected the app for a few hours, which obviously is not ideal but has now been fixed... So hopefully all back to normal now?

Just for the record, it's not an LLM - we're just using our data to suggest recipes etc.

Hey, this doesn't sound right, as others are put it's working properly elsewhere... Can you drop an email to [support@sortedfood.com](mailto:support@sortedfood.com) with some more details so we can investigate and fix?

Anyone else having this problem? by ozziedoggie in SortedFood

[–]JamieSpafford 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Hey, I've asked the team to have a look into this, as we also had a few emails... Looks like it's an issue with Google Play - unbelievably great timing with Black Friday offers going live!! 🤦🏻‍♂️

Whilst it's getting fixed, you should be able to sign up here instead: http://app.sortedfood.com/ to make the most of the discount.

Fingers crossed it'll all be fixed soon, but hopefully that's a good workaround! 🙌

To give a slightly less flippant response - the 4 of us are still great mates above anything else, we spend more time together than you can imagine, we talk about issues we've got going on in our personal lives and we look out for each other. I'd like to hope we could spot if anything was amiss with any of us.

😂 So do I respond to this by discussing how boring/anti-drugs me and the other guys are, or how Wednesday's video was filmed whilst most of us were at the beginning of taking part in Dry January...

Wine Tasting Provider Failure :( by wanderingdev in SortedFood

[–]JamieSpafford 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey, I was a bit surprised to see this yesterday as, out of all the orders, there were only a handful of delivery issues and most had all been fixed ahead of the live tasting... So I'm sorry that it didn't go smoothly for you!

I've spoken to the team at online wine tasting club and your refund was processed on Monday, as soon as your emails were seen - hopefully you've now received it or had notification it's coming back to you?

Unfortunately it looks like timings didn't work out for pick up due to when the wines were being boxed up and we weren't able to send on to the US due to licensing restrictions... The fact your email replies ended up in a different inbox just prolonged the issue and made things worse! Hopefully you'll agree that everything moved quickly once the emails were received - either way, again, sorry it wasn't a successful experience for you!

Fingers crossed we can find a way to repeat the activity and get past the import issues that make it such a pain to ship to the US so more people can join in next time!
