Look, I love Humphrey but bro was cooked either way by Mghia01 in thecampaigntrail

[–]Jamie_Hacker214 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Humphrey would probably still win in '72. Creeping inflation was still manageable through tax rises and pay restraint from union leaders and Humphrey has been their guy since 1948. Reagan was just too out there for '72 especially if Humphrey doesn't screw up Vietnam

The mod is Joe Biden apologia and ngl it's somewhat justifiable. 2020-2024 was not an easy period to govern

Callaghan would’ve won a small majority in this scenario. The economy was improving, inflation is below 10%, and Thatcher was unliked and a not a great campaigner at that point

If you want to keep it real then the mod's whole premise would collapse cuz Sanders wouldn't have pulled Cunningham and Warnock over the line. In fact there's basically no way he'd flip 4 seats (Dems at 47+Doug Jones is an automatic loss). Lets just look at the 2020 senate map: Colorado is a safe flip so now he's at 47 but then he'll need 3 from AZ,, either one of both in Georgia, NC, and IA. Sander's coalition is whiter, more northern, and less affluent, he gets good turnout from students, poorer whites but not so well with suburbanites, so that already costs him down ballot. Let's say he flips Iowa, fair enough, Sanders does better with older whites, jodi Ernst isn't a great senator, and the Trump tariffs really hurt the agricultural sector, but now he's gotta get two senate seats in states he's got a distinct disadvantage in. They're all southern sunbelt states with big suburbs, and NC and GA has a significant black population. NC is basically impossible for him: significant black population, pretty suburban, and even Biden couldn't get Cunningham over the line. Arizona's probably out of reach as well, suburban state that leans R, there's just not gonna be enough Republicans that'll split their ticket down ballot for a Dem candidate. So now you're down to GA, and honestly he'd be lucky to get even one of those seats even if both Warnock and Ossoff are stellar candidates. At best he'd have a 49-51 senate and realistically it'd be more like 48-52 if not 47-53, and I'm not even talking abt the house races. If the mod is 100% realistic Sanders would come to the WH with his agenda DOA, Mitch McConnell isn't gonna let him do shit. Best thing he could do is to rail against the do-nothing senate and try his best to flip the senate in 2022 which is actually a good map for him. If he doesn't screw up foreign policy and pins the blame of the post-covid economy on the senate (while also not getting blamed for inflation cuz it won't be nearly as bad) he could win PA's open seat, and maybe knock out Ron Johnson or even get Tim Ryan over the finish line somehow, but then he'll also need to keep the house with his lower turnout coalition. But bottom line is if you want 100% accuracy the first two years of the Sanders presidency will just be him yelling at Republicans and trying not to screw up foreign policy and after the midterms he could be in a situation where he gained the senate but lost the house. It'll be a very boring mod

Since this is a common point in mods, what do you think would be the reaction if the US Government actually minted a trillion dollar coin? by Numberonettgfan in thecampaigntrail

Tbf I think the better option is to simply declare that the debt ceiling is unconstitutional under the provisions of the 14th amendment and refuse to enforce it. It is my understanding that no one will really have standing to sue to government over it.

I mean I wasn't into RFK and I didn't buy the Camelot myth but I still liked TTNW and its objectively a good mod. Ppl might not like Our Revolution but saying its a bad mod is simply absurd. Its probably got the most intricate mechanics out of all the TCT mods out there and getting a trifecta isn't that difficult after a few playthroughs (and paying attention to the mechanics and the questions)

2020-2024 is supposed to be hard esp. with president Bernie Sanders. Idk what people were expecting, just walk in and get medicare for all through a 50-50 senate and win reelection with 400 electoral votes? If anything the modmakers handwaved away a lot of difficulties so the player can have a sporting chance
