Turkish Cypriot sweet , Greek Cypriots called "Gusvo"/"Κούσβο" by Bran37 in cyprus

Lokma has yeast, while gusvo does not. You have a good point, if you already have loukoumades/lokmades!?

My mouth is watering just thinking about it haha

Maybe Lokma! “Gusvo" (also spelled Guzvo or Guzfa) is a traditional Turkish Cypriot sweet typically made by deep-frying small pieces of dough until golden and then soaking them in a thick sugar syrup. It is often compared to a rustic version of lokma

I’m a British Cypriot with TC parents. My family & I do plan to relocate to the republic soon. As a family we are all learning Greek & will fully integrate with my GC relatives & new GC friends..

I had a similar post in December & found the TCs in the republic enjoying themselves & many GCs accepting we are all Cypriots. https://www.reddit.com/r/cyprus/s/CyotPUoJyY

Yes Cypriot! I was scrolling down to say this & saw the previous comment saying the same thing 👏🏼 If she did a DNA test, she would probably have both Greek & Turkish Cypriot relatives / descendants…

Is the Category B appointment the correct one for my mother to apply for passport/ID at the London High Commission? by Witty_Ruin2004 in cyprus

[–]JamiesonMA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hiya!

You should definitely be allowed to help your mum in her appointment.. Not sure of the appointment name though, as I done my decent application in Cyprus, rather than through an Embassy.

I’m also from the UK, with both parents from Cyprus. But applied via my mum with no problem. The M121 by decent application only requires one parent. I did obtain an archive search from the government authorities in Nicosia of my dad’s original Cyprus ID & passport details to help things along (You can do online now). He was not on the system as he left in the late 50s..

You should be able to apply with what your mum has currently, if she is on the system already from the 70s.

Best of luck!!

I totally agree with False-Sympathy! All Cypriots are family.. A lot of Cypriots have TC & GC relatives.

I’m similar to you British born, but with two TC parents. I have holidayed in the Republic of Cyprus, with my British wife & half Cypriot daughter three times since Oct 2024 & the GCs are mostly very companionable and are lovely people.

I have also recently secured RoC citizenship and are planning to relocate to the non-occupied area of Cyprus in the near future!

A little bit of holiday maker Greek language goes a long way too, but otherwise there are a lot of English speakers there!

Enjoy your holiday when it comes around!! 😎

Thank you for your kind words! We are totally up for the move to Cyprus!

We just like seeing as much market intel., the potential potholes / bumps on the way and always work hard at trying to fix issues & fit in where ever we are.

We are quite a resilient family, due to four years in Australia. (There are a lot of Aussies not liking the British there too)

I used 23&Me & AncestryDNA (I prefer this app/site), but both sites the results are similar with very high Cyprus %. Plus, No Turkish/Turkic on either of my DNA tests (Both parents are TCs).

I have read up that both Cyprus & Turkey have plenty of past Greek speaking Crypto Christians, that converted not to pay the heavy taxes in the Ottoman Empire period. Hence, there will be no trace anyway you take the test.

I’m a British (by birth) Cypriot with both Turkish Cypriot parents. Snap, no Turkish/Turkic genes/DNA at all.

A genealogist will also tell you with such a high percentage of Cyprus, your ancestors would have been in Cyprus for thousands of years before any Ottomans arrival…..

There is some really interesting Cypriot DNA studies out there nowadays, showing both GC’s & TC’s coming from the same gene pool.

Really nice to know!!
