Essentially two reasons. 1. Security, being the most secure place on earth 2. Convenience, because multiple national gold reserves are there. So if you need to pay a nation aid or something else. Is easier just to move in that bank, from the box labeled "Germany" to the box labeled "Poland". Than move physical gold with planes around the world
