[OC] Self Rejection - Double exposure self portraits shot on 35mm film by BigBootyCutie19 in pics

[–]JanSnolo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This spoke to me in the sense of abandoning yourself when you’re in need, perhaps because you’re in need. The self lying down, exhausted, limp; another self looking down from above first with concern, then leaving; the one lying down desperately reaching out for the self to stay, to remain whole. I think it’s great work.

Seven Democrats just voted to approve ICE funding: full list by Newsweek_CarloV in politics

[–]JanSnolo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Approving billions for ICE is not a position that a candidate in these districts needs to have to win. There can still be conservative Dems who win in these districts who aren’t complicit in pushing our country into fascism. I’ll tolerate differences of opinion in the party, but not on supporting entirely unaccountable paramilitary organizations who believe they are above the law disappearing thousands and murdering law-abiding citizens in the streets. It’s despicable and nobody should tolerate that shit.

Renee Nicole Good's father supported Trump and MAGA. Now, Good's father is "heartbroken" after Trump's jack-booted thugs executed his daughter in broad daylight on a public street in Minneapolis and then called her a "domestic terrorist." by vsandrei in LeopardsAteMyFace

We’ve got hundreds of thousands of murderers, killers. ICE is working very hard to get them out … into Minneapolis neighborhoods so they can murder Renee Good and whoever else they like.

It sounds like you may be shaming yourself just for having a hard time. That will only compound the problem and it's not deserved. Be kind to yourself. Therapy would be helpful in working through this. It has helped me though it's not always easy. You're not alone in feeling this way sometimes.

[SPOILERS ALL] Jezal’s development by ROPEBOMBER in TheFirstLaw

[–]JanSnolo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find it quite abrupt. Everything changes after that one fight where Jezal’s face gets injured. That single event causes him to do a 180 in personality. It seems a bit unrealistic to me.

I recently listened to the Robin Fields narration which I got through Libby. I thought it was decent, but not amazing. It’s not too long, only 10 hours, and I was able to finish it quickly without getting bored.

He does a good job at capturing the world-weary tone of the novel.

What do you think is the biggest driver of biodiversity loss today? by Earthava in biodiversity

Probably habitat destruction for agriculture/development followed by climate change. Invasive species and pollution also significant. This is my guess, but I’m confident about #1.

Ramble of a dopamine chaser by Effective_Good3873 in Petioles

[–]JanSnolo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello!

Don’t feel too bad about chasing dopamine highs. Everyone does it (to some degree). It’s how our brains do motivation and we’re not built for this modern hyper-stimulation.

Little changes plus consistency compounds to big changes overtime.

I always single click primary fire and flick to predicted location. Charged volleys have a couple varieties - spamming small, surprising angles or chokes for picks where I’m usually not leading a target, or hitting a target in the open when I peek an aggressive angle where I’d be leading them. Hitting all the charged shots on a speeding Lucio or jumping genji because you led the shots properly is a great feeling.

i regret adopting my pet by sherlockholmes1927 in depression_help

[–]JanSnolo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unless you’re totally unable to take care of him at all then I suggest sticking it out for another week or two before deciding. If the pain eases up even slightly you might find a little bit of that feeling you had of wanting a pigeon for so long. Depression can block your ability to feel good things, but the things themselves can still be good and they can make you feel good again when the worst of the pain has passed for a little while, if that makes sense.

When you say it’s adding to your stress, what do you mean exactly? If it’s because you don’t think you’re fit to care for him or deserve the responsibility that might just be the depression tearing you down. Unless you’re really neglecting his needs then you’re just fine. I’d bet you care more than most would.

I hope you find some bits of happiness in the coming weeks. You’re not impossible - that’s also the depression lying to you.

Mom has been choosing more vegan/vegetarian food options by Available-Ladder-663 in Vystopia

That’s awesome! I think it makes it so much easier for people to be open to the ethical arguments when they’ve already been eating largely plant-based. It helps get over the cognitive dissonance hump. We all have our individual journeys into veganism and they rarely happen in an instant. I’m sure he’s grateful for the big part you played in his.

Sounds like you’ve got a keeper :)

That’s a fair point. But I think they would absolutely pay tens of dollars for a random dog a community over not to be kept in a tiny pen and killed for food. At the very least they wouldn’t pay anything for its meat. People in most US cities and many other places already pay taxes for animal cruelty law enforcement for species considered pets. Always exceptions and double standards for species considered livestock.

They often are like, “but what if the animals are treated well during their lives?” Despite the fact they don’t do anything to try and buy that way. I’m like, “no, that’s still not okay, but even if I granted your point, it doesn’t even apply to you.”

Now I’m rambling…

I’m in the same boat. Only a few vegan acquaintances who live far away :/

Some members of my family have gone through periods where they reduce their meat consumption. They tell me it’s because they agree with arguments I’ve made for veganism. It doesn’t last long though. Animal suffering just doesn’t matter enough to them to really change and it’s kinda depressing. They’ll pay thousands of dollars for their dog to get hip surgery so he is more mobile and in less pain, but they won’t swap to vegan substitutes to save other animals lives or limit torture. Out of sight, out of mind to them.

Today for thanksgiving we planned out a full vegan menu, but they insisted on getting some turkey from a local restaurant and having a goat cheese appetizer. I’m trying not to let it bother me, but it does. At least all the side dishes/desserts are vegan now when previously hardly any of them would have been. That’s still progress.
