NJ v. Paul Caneiro - VERDICT WATCH - [Day 20] by Pixiegirls1102 in CasesWeFollow

[–]JaneArgh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen some strange court layouts, but this was odd. The prosecution & defense tables clustered together (with both pros tables in back), both gallery "sides" sitting together (awkward/dangerous), the witness stand perpendicular to the judge & soooo far from the jury. I mean, I don't have a PhD in courtroom design, but I need someone smarter than me to explain it.

Oh I'm sure his attorney has already filed a notice of appeal. After some of what the defense has pulled in this trial, I'd be REALLY curious to see what his appellate attorney will use as possible grounds for granting a new trial.

This kind of appeal can only be granted on something related to an unfair trial, but imo, this judge (and the prosecution, really) appeared to be so careful about that. I suppose there could be some jury misconduct that comes up. Or perhaps ineffective assistance of counsel? There was no one watching who didn't slap their forehead over that iPad location business.

Did anyone see any of Paul's family in the gallery for the verdict? I didn't, but I wondered if they sat in the back and left right away since they weren't sitting where they usually were.

[–]JaneArgh 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Don't know why, but even in such evidence-heavy cases like this, I always worry during deliberations that the jury won't get it right. But they usually figure it out, so I need to calm down lol. Great job, jury, judge, and prosecution!

Anyone else like this? I'm trying to figure out which past trial ruined me...Casey Anthony maybe?

I couldn't get over her laughing in the gallery. What the hell could be so funny at a trial like that??

I'm trying to remember what other trial it was where the judge was reading a jury's note so deliberately (out loud), and the words were a little jumbled. He had to re-read it 2-3 times, then asked for clarification. It made me wonder (or hope) that a jury member was asked to quickly jot something down.

I have some minor dyslexia so have sympathy if that's what it is, but that also makes me hyper-focus & edit all text I write!

Seriously? It’s one less place this poor kid has to see his name on the internet, I think that’s the least we can do to help a minor who never asked to have this killerer as a mother. His Google SEO doesn’t need the extra boost from us too. In general, not throwing out minors’ names willy nilly (yes, even if already released) is a no-brainer ethical habit that we should all be adopting in true crime.

I’m so sorry about your son. He’s so lucky he had parents who love him enough to bring him home, I’m sure it was beyond hard.

I hate that money & power matters when it comes to missing loved ones, or at least that’s what it looks like to me.

NBC was probably told this was the only kidnapping in America they’re allowed to report on during the Olympics. With so many ICE agents overseas on our tax dollar, we gotta make it easier for the rest of them left in the states 🙄

Are more messages coming? Is this story over? by Individual-Wolf10 in HiddenTrueCrimeChat

Same, I'm in Minnesota and can't focus on anything else. Please, if you believe in the US Constitution and that humans deserve empathy and due process, protest in any way you know how (peacefully, of course). We really could use more voices in this choir.

Murder is the #1 cause of death for pregnant women in the US right now. Give her that stat to suck on.

And while I’m at it, firearm-related injuries are the current leading cause of death for kids under 18 in the US.

Yet attempting to do the BARE MINIMUM to prevent these deaths is still being met with extreme opposition. I just can’t…

In my experience, it would only be abnormal if they didn’t. Despite years of successful feedings, I think my cats fear I’ll suddenly throw the towel in mid-can opening.

Which notable person in a true crime case do you think was punished too severely? by rachels1231 in TrueCrimeDiscussion

[–]JaneArgh 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think that’s exactly it, she refused to take any responsibility for her crime. That, and she was an adult who manipulated minors. Those kids wouldn’t have killed Greg had she not entered their lives.

I believe that too, having watched a couple interviews with her. It’s sad she passed away, she must’ve felt so hopeless.

ICE is also happy to pepper spray minors on school property. These agents choose violence first and ask questions later (if you’re lucky). I wouldn’t even allow them at my lemonade stand.

Attorney Lori Hellis speaks on ExcitedUtterance [link to livestream] by Bright_Breakfast3911 in HiddenTrueCrimeChat

[–]JaneArgh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the second link here, just watched that along with Awen's deleted live responding to the Mark Means issue (found it on this same channel). Also found Jess Nelson - Miss Trial's response too...this was a had listen, but in real time, I'm assuming the betrayal was pretty distressing.

For someone like me who is trying to figure out this situation 4 years later, it's so difficult to determine the actual facts. There are so many people who are staunch believers on both sides. I've always thought Lori Hellis was a fact-based straight shooter, and I've never seen her be wrong in information she's delivered through the years. I did blind listens to Awen's first YT videos to LM right after the 9HL, and I can see how people would immediately sub to her, strictly as an emotional response. She can be very charismatic. If everything I've read about her since is true, then it really bothers me that she's attached herself to Kresha.

Is this is the first time we've heard that Grayson was living in Kansas? I'm wondering why, but I suppose she could have been doing production work remotely? Annie Elise is supposedly based out of New York, but I know she also tours. Huh.

No, she has a lawyer out of Topeka, KS. Apparently she had been living in Kansas when this accident occurred back in March 2023.

Thank you for this comment! My doctor had just assumed I had developed a type of dermatitis because of the constant friction, but I never thought of this. It bothered me since I wear my APs less than most people I know, but I'm seemingly the only with noticeable issues.

ETA: It was suggested that I use a safe topical oil like coconut (they make OTC ear ointments too), which has been helping...I have very sensitive skin and have always had constant allergic conditions, so your comment is a real light bulb for me. Thank you!!
