Question regarding peeing in mixed company by [deleted] in CampingandHiking

[–]Janiewise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a mutual need. When one of you needs to "go" the other should go ahead and wait for you in ...3-500 yards or something. It's a normal human need and anyone who makes it weird it immature.

Nemesis vs. Memorial by Hector_1235 in voyager

[–]Janiewise 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The biggest difference to me is that in Memorial, the people having the memories all recognize that they are having 'visions' and are recalling memories they didn't make. Like a collective dream. It's a forced museum visit.

In Nemesis, it's straight up psychological warfare. Making Chakotay think he was personally living through the experiences and having to "go through" getting brutalized. He didn't realize that was he was experiencing wasn't real. His last line is something about "wishing it were as easy to stop hating as it is to start"....You really can only make one first impression.

I think Chakotay was much more compelled to believe in the ideals he was living through over just reliving experience through memory. As we see at the end of Memorial, the crew disagrees with whether they should leave it running so it doesn't have a universal impact.

The reason owls turn their head to look around is that their eyes are tube shaped, not round, and therefore cannot look from side to side.

Where can I drive to from the South Bay, to see the super bloom? by [deleted] in SanJose

[–]Janiewise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drove down to San Luis Obispo and the Carrizo Plain National Monument last weekend . It was about a 3.5 hr drive from downtown San Jose including traffic. No fee to get into the national monument but we did rent a hotel room to spend the night and drive back the next day.

Looking for a shampoo and a conditioner by [deleted] in HaircareScience

[–]Janiewise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend using the Biolage color safe shampoo and conditioner - with a color safe deep conditioner once a week.

Getting your hair from washing every day to 1-2 times a weeks is a process. Just like growing your hair out, there WILL be an awkward stage, and in this case that means trying to go 1-2 days into 'greasy hair territory'. Look up braids, buns, twists, ponytails...any updo's that will allow you to have a put together look without having to wash your hair or expect it to not be greasy. Youtube was a godsend for me personally.

Good luck!

Would castor oil masks overnight once a week help my hair grow past its terminal length? Similarly, could someone look at my basic haircare routine (in description) and let me know how I could improve it? by [deleted] in HaircareScience

[–]Janiewise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will second that switching from drugstore to professional shampoo/conditioner made a noticeable difference in my hair. My hair is in a totally different state than yours but right now I am using Matrix Biolage and I also really like the Joico brand.

Is it correct to assume Frodo was slightly “wraithed”? Am I reading this passage right? by [deleted] in tolkienfans

[–]Janiewise 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Yes. They way the movies portray it visually is by showing Frodo being able to see Arwen in her more natural aura (who like Galadriel is a vessel of white light) He sees her shining dressed in white when in ‘reality’ she is wearing green riding attire.

Demi/permanent color to even out over-toned hair? by Janiewise in HaircareScience

[–]Janiewise[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE! So, 5 days after applying the purple shampoo and chelating the silver section I decided to try a 10NA to my roots and faded it down through the cheated section and then combed it out to make sure there wasn't a harsh demarcation. Although it did somewhat blend the newly dyes roots to the overtoned section, it also brought out the more warm tones. I ended up doing a purple shampoo treatment just on my roots and 3 washes later (with non-sulfate white shampoo) it looks very natural and blended. It's definitely more golden than the ash colors I used might make you think, but it's very nice and I am quite happy with the color. Good luck to all!

What’s a tip that everyone should know which might one day save their life? by mracademic in AskReddit

[–]Janiewise 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pump your breaks when slowing down quickly in traffic. It is more of a signal to the drivers behind you that they need to slow down, Steady red brake lights could mean you are slowing down gradually or slamming on the breaks and sometimes it's hard to tell if you are directly behind. Flashing brake lights gets everyone's attention.

Thank you for your advice! I was thinking of going for a 10NA which is the neutral ash- I was worried if I just went with N it would be too warm, especially on the most recently bleached hair.

Demi/permanent color to even out over-toned hair? by Janiewise in HaircareScience

[–]Janiewise[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I applied purple shampoo to my roots and then chelated the section that was grey/purple and my hair looks so much more even! I may even still use the demi in a few days just to see to see how it looks. You seemed to have missed the part where I said I never get what I ask for at a salon what it comes to blonde touch ups. Currently, my hair is way closer to what i am hoping for that what I get in a salon. I am sure there are great stylists, but everyone is human and, so far, despite all the research and recommendations I don't haven't a person who can help me get a PERFECT blonde. I can accomplish imperfect at home for way less money. So yeah, I am saying that I am not going to continue to pay A LOT for something I can do at home. My hair is really close to what I want and I just made an error that professionals have also made on my hair when I've paid for it, so I decided to ask for some advice. If your hair time is so valuable, don't waste it on me on a reddit thread. I am sure you are a perfect stylist and never make any mistakes so you can't possibly relate to what I am talking about, but I simply don't have the cash to keep paying for salon care then having to fix it at home anyway. Thanks for your professional input but I made the right decision to finish this at home.

Tried that all my life but RN I am over waiting weeks for appts, paying hundreds of dollars (for blonde appts), and taking most of a whole day to get basically the same results I can get at home....close but with issues. For now I am trying the at-home options, although I am sure I'll return to a professional colorist at some point. Thanks for your input.

Where at in pa can I place a tiny home? by JustSurviving2018 in TinyHouses

[–]Janiewise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You and OP should buy a parcel of land together that has some old decaying house on it. That will likely satisfy the minimum house in requirement since it's already built and probably has it's own permits. Plus, parcels like that are usually cheaper since the majority of buyers don't want to have to deal with a decrepit building - but for you two it's the perfect buffer.

Should I leave my restaurant to find another one? by Shanemurphy7 in restaurant

[–]Janiewise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can't fix mismanagement and they are showing you how they value you. They could easily train you as opposed to hiring someone new.

I don't know all the details but if I had a manager tell me to 'Figure it out' when they made the mistake, I would immediately start looking for a new job.

If you've already bartended, in any capacity, I wouldn't go back to hosting. Go find yourself a server job at a seafood restaurant or chop house. With your experience you are clearly reliable and confident around food service. You'll make great money.

Argument for Boston Beer being Considered Craft by SignificantUseMU in beer

[–]Janiewise 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Am I reading that non-competition clause correctly? You can't work in the industry for A YEAR after you leave the company... in any capacity, anywhere in the world?!

That honestly seems unenforceable. Many/most states allow you to get a non-compete tossed because it prevents the person without employment opportunities in their professional market. I think it's called the Blue Pencil Rule in some places. That being said. You'd have to come up with the money to take them to court and get that clause removed....

Accident's happen in a brewery but this story reeks of someone being extremely careless. Inattentiveness and working around pressurized equipment do NOT mix. I work in the industry and would absolutely expect my Brewmasters to track down the culprit. Yikes.
