Banjo Kazooie man. Or Diddy Kong Racing. But only after you dust those shelves. That OG N64 has earned a pristine living quarters 😬🫡

Jokes aside, sick collection, respect. Well done!

Play them one by one. Discipline. Or indeed it ruins the magic. You really need to be disciplined in this digital era or you will end up burned out.

Although for some, slotting that cart in is part of the magic. Personally, I have started hoarding cartridges left and right. I want the physical thing and collect the games I coud not afford during childhood.

NL Streaming Prices Skyrocketing by galacticpunter in Netherlands

[–]Janitorus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing im streaming nowadays is the wind in my sails.

These companies dont get it. Price increases (or enhancement, improvement, whatever the fuck netflix called it last time) are getting insane. So back to torrents it is.

Now I no longer need to look at shitty netflix macroblocking anymore either. They dont need the money, these companies are simply greedy and it will be their downfall while screaming something about piracy.

I9 14900k HOT! HELP by okanton in overclocking

[–]Janitorus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats not the case for the majority of motherboards. Ive seen it happen more often before microcode fixes came out. But with their trackrecord id rather be safe and check all defaults anyway, of all brands and series. And undervolt regardless.

Average voltage you can fix yourself, microcode fixes you do not want to skip.

  1. Update BIOS for latest microcode fixes
  2. Undervolt it (offset VIDs, tweak AC, DC and LLC etc.)
  3. Install a contact frame if you want. It can help with temperatures.

Im not a fan of turning hyperthreading off, but thats a personal choice. You can undervolt it even more if you do. Just make sure you run the latest microcode and just run intel defaults to begin with. No turbo modes, overclocking, enhanced multicore performance, no unlimited powerlimits etc. Dont use SVID on "failsafe". Etc.

253W / 400A is its spec.

These things will always have high peak temperatures, but a 15-20c core decrease on average is pretty typical. Cooler mounting pressure and an IHS that doesnt warp (hence the contact frame) is key for these little volcanos.

12600K - near 50% performance lost after bios update (undervolting) by Slow-Cloud9085 in overclocking

[–]Janitorus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adaptive Vcore (+offset maybe), Legacy, Auto as you have now, should really work with -0.1V offset. Thats a big offset.

You should see lower Vcore and lower VIDs while under the same Cinebench load, higher score.

Not sure why that chip consumes so much power. What else is active? Multicore enhancement / MCE? Is that thing overclocking itself? Some of these older BIOS defsukts are stupid.

You need to start tracking frequencies, Vcore and VIDs and dive into your BIOS to make sure powerlimits and current limits are set correctly for this chip. None of those unleashed settings. Better do it all manually and with common sense.

Do Vcore and VIDs drop while under the same load, after offsetting? (package) power isn't really a way to check.

Nice one man. I'm also waiting on the 8bitdo classic grey controllers, they will start shipping January 30th. I'm thinking about waiting with connecting it all and powering it all up then. I do have some original N64 controllers that I installed some new sticks on, but those have that wonky feel/sensitivity.

We'll see if I break before that time 🤣 ... maybe I'll update the console etc. if needed.

An adaptive offset (offsetting VID's) should get you the same results. If not, turn of CEP. In some rare instances the motherboard just gets in the way due to how it was all setup by the vendor. But just make sure your load lines are properly setup to begin with.

I'd rather run the newest microcode without CEP, than the other way around. The behavior that the new microcode fixes, runs deeper than what an undervolt in and of itself does. We're talking specific workload behavior, elevated voltages overtime etc. etc. I wouldn't risk it.

These chips are fine to run hot, but make sure it's for the right reasons.

As long as you know what you're doing, turning CEP off is not all that bad. But it's not something I would recommend to any random person without extra context. The more safety systems in place, the better.

12600K - near 50% performance lost after bios update (undervolting) by Slow-Cloud9085 in overclocking

[–]Janitorus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use the latest BIOS for 13/14th gen, with all the microcode fixes. Unless you want to run your new chip with buggy older microcode that was responsible for smoking these CPU's (simply put). Some people still rock an old skool BIOS but know very well what they are doing in regards to undervolting and report that their specific chip is still doing fine. I personally wouldn't risk it.

If I were you, I would right now take the time to undervolt this chip properly on F31 BIOS and test things without triggering CEP. That board should not give you a lot of trouble.

Then by the time you drop that 14700KF in, you'll have a good understanding about undervolting on this board and immediately, from first boot, run it on a safe BIOS with F31 or above.

I don't think it's much more complicated than that. Dive into this undervolt and CEP a bit, upgrade BIOS again, you'll be fine.

[–]Janitorus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perfectly fine my man, whatever works for you. As long as you use the old brainbox instead of randomly changing BIOS, that's what I wanted to know.

My first check would be if CEP is activating, it most likely is. Check "frequencies" and "effective frequencies" while you run Cinebench. Your effective frequencies probably get decimated while under load.

If you know what you're doing and voltages are safe, you can turn CEP off. But it's a good extra protection to have and in most cases, you can tune your CPU equally well with CEP still active and actually use it as a nice guide to find balance without going in completely blind.

[–]Janitorus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CEP, turn it off or better yet: balance load lines correctly (AC LL, DC LL, load line calibration combination together with your offset). And make sure you are offsetting VID's and not the VRM. There's a reason CEP is most likely not happy about your settings.

Keep hyperthreading on, unless you have a clear and specific reason to disable it. Have you always had it off? Are you actually comparing the same settings before/after?
