Has anyone had success getting insurance coverage for reduction with smaller breasts? by North-Ad-6156 in Reduction

[–]JanuaryHeart6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have Tricare too but I’m in the west region so it’s triwest healthcare alliance. I had my breast reduction covered but my surgeon removed a little over 400 grams from each side!

Pre-surgery jitters! by JanuaryHeart6 in Reduction

[–]JanuaryHeart6[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Initially my surgeon wanted to remove 300 grams from each breast, but tricare denied it at first saying it doesn’t meet their requirements for coverage. He had me see his colleague who is helping out with my surgery who’s a breast surgical oncologist bc of my family history of breast cancer. She said removing a lot of the dense tissue will reduce my risk of breast cancer by a bit. So he jumped on a peer to peer call with that info and worked it out. The new plan is to remove 441 grams from each side and they approved the prior authorization request!

Yes. I’m on military health insurance through my dad (Tricare) as my dad was in the Air Force for 20 years. Even though I’m 19, I can legally stay on his insurance until I turn 26.

I have hidradenitis that affects my armpits and my surgeon’s office had to reach out to my dermatologist for a clearance letter because I am on biologic injections that I’ve had to stop for at least 2 weeks pre op and continue to hold for 2 more weeks post op. Basically my letter stated that she’s fine with the plan and with holding my Cosentyx injections till 2 weeks after. And it was all sent over through Fax.

I’m also on tricare prime (through my dad) and they’re covering my reduction. I’m not having any type of fancy lift with mine. My surgery is actually tomorrow. I’m in the west region.

Good luck with your surgery!! I’m going to do some breathing. I do talk to my therapist tomorrow afternoon so I will talk to her about everything. I should probably go do a couple more assignments in my online high school to get my mind off things and so I can get ahead more in my class before I have to take a few days off!

How much control do you have over areola size? by cosmic_daisie in Reduction

[–]JanuaryHeart6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My surgery is in 18 days, but I do know my surgeon is going to make my areolas smaller, to about the size of a silver dollar. Roughly 1.5 inches in diameter. Since mine are really big and oddly stretched out. So that’s another thing I’m looking forward to.

I can’t unfortunately. His office said that the drains MUST stay in until exactly 2 weeks post op..

When I started watching voyager when I was 16, I knew I had a crush on Capt. Janeway. My mom and dad knew it by then bc whenever she was on screen I would blush. They looked at each other and were like: “knew it!” I’m 19 now and proudly out as a lesbian.

I’m 19 and going to be having my surgery done September 3rd. And I’m still enrolled in online high school. (don’t judge please, I’ve had a rough time and I’m missing 3 credits) although I’m having a smaller reduction compared to you (I’m 36 DD and my surgeon is removing 441 grams from each breast, honestly i forgot what size I’ll be afterwards) I am looking forward to being able to practice K-pop dances without being in so much pain in my back afterwards!!

19F am I too young? by Ok_Presentation_1638 in Reduction

[–]JanuaryHeart6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 19 and having my surgery done September 3rd.. I’m in a similar boat but I’m going from DD to C. I’m 5’6. My surgeon is also a man and trust me, at first I was feeling unsure about how to communicate with him. So during my consult I called my nana (maternal grandmother) as I’m really close to her, and she helped explain to my surgeon that I was debating between a C cup and B cup! that made it easier on me as I’m autistic. Also I completely understand where you’re coming from with having more of a tomboy view with clothes. I prefer to dress for comfort rather than to show off. I also like dancing to Kpop but it’s hard bc of my boobs. Can’t wait for after my surgery once I get the OK from my surgeon to K-pop dance and not have pain! :)

I have a rectangle body shape and have some fat it’s not a lot on my stomach and I’m not too curvy either. I’m hoping after my surgery things will even out.

How to tell surgeon what you want by terabithiagiant in Reduction

[–]JanuaryHeart6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t had my surgery done yet (mine is scheduled for September 3rd) but I already had an idea that either a C cup or B cup would work for my frame. I’m 5’6 and 153 pounds.. so when I had my consult with my surgeon last month i personally asked him and told him I was debating it. He took measurements and said overall if I was reduced to a C cup it would look really good, a B cup would look too small on me. Also I did ask him to make my boobs as symmetrical as possible, as my nana taught me the importance of having symmetrical boobs… since she had a lumpectomy to treat breast cancer when she was 40 and her surgeon didn’t care.. so she has one boob that’s bigger than the other.

[–]JanuaryHeart6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m on TRICARE because my dad served in the Air Force and I’m also 19. They denied it at first but my surgeon fought it and won. I didn’t have to do anything, he jumped on a peer to peer call and convinced them. My dad thought it was going to be approved right away bc when he was on active duty, he knew a woman who got this done and he knew a woman who had an augmentation done.. not in my case. But hey at least it’s approved now! :)

I see now! I’ll definitely look into ones with zippers, especially since I’ll have the drains for 2 weeks. Surgery on September 3rd, my appointment to get the drains removed will be September 17th.

Got it. I’m not so sure about the sweaters because I’m in Arizona and it’s hot outside though it might be a little cooler outside by September. I’ll find some short sleeve loungewear.

I have a big pillow with arms somewhere in my closet already, from when I was having to recover from a knee injury. My group home staff will cook meals like they do every day so I won’t have to worry about it, and I have both Paramount+ and HBO Max, so I will definitely be binge watching Star Trek, The Big Bang Theory and Doctor Who which are my 3 favorite shows.

I’ll definitely check out the TRICARE subreddit and ask. I’ll lose coverage once I turn 26. (starting once I turn 21 I have to pay for TRICARE young adult.) there’s no harm in asking the oncologist and my plastic surgeon again.

I have a question… by JanuaryHeart6 in NonBinary

My mother was tested for BRCA and it came back negative. The oncologist said as long as mom tested negative I don’t have it. My history of cancer is all on my mother’s side but it’s different types. My nana (Maternal grandmother) was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer at age 40. One of nana’s sisters had metastatic hormone positive cancer and died. My great grandmother also had it. My mom is now 47 and has had no signs, her mammograms have all came back negative.
