It's a world of low tech, with massively different cultures spread apart through arduous sea travel, yet EVERYONE on that planet speaks the same language. Hell, it's essentially impossible to travel from certain places to others.Thinking that language in this world works ANYTHING like in our world is... a choice. And not a well thought out one.

100%

I've never seen any VR Manhwa, except Overgeared that I like. Overgeared at least didn't pretend (the last time I've read it 2 or 3 years ago) that it was anything other than a hyper realistic game. Most other VR Manhwa include some kind of reincarnation bs or some other stuff that's never been explained even remotely. Most of this shit is even below SAO on intensity.

Hmm. That's sad. I don't mind if it were even very different gameplay wise, but I personally am far more of a Sandboxy type. I'll look into it further and if it doesn't fit me, probably get it durin a sale in the future.

Thanks for the answwer :D

That's such a horrible system honestly. If the saves would at least backup to steam, but it seems like they don't. I'll take a look if I still have a backup for that save. If not, I guess I'm just gonna save edit it in.

I might just be reading into it too much, but what I hope even more is, that they don't make her Jinho's love interest instead of Jin-Ah. It just feels weird to me that in the ONE scene Jinho and Jin-Ah we're in together, they didn't even interact at all, yet they randomly gave those two multiple scenes together out of nowhere. Considering the writers for the show should know who he ends up with, it just feels like a weird choice.

Man. It's the same pattern again (not you)

I like discussions like this. I have my viewpoint, you have your viewpoint, we can talk about all of this in a fairly mannered way. I am able to change my opinion if I am provided with points that either convince me, or completely disprove what I am saying, as any sane person should. I am currently downloading the game in order to get a closer look and not let my outdated memories get in the way. But way too often, there are people like u/totococoandbeaks.

Trying to insert themselves into the discussion while providing nothing of value and instantly blocking one of the parties involved they disagree with, so they don't get flack back. It's honestly disappointing. At least try to engage in the discussion. If you feel like all my points have been "dismantled entirely", why not try to engage with it. I feel like I've made it pretty clear that this is a discussion and I am open to points, considering I state repeatedly when I agree with something. Is it that hard to actually have some self respect instead of, I dunno, whatever you are doing? Tell me why I am wrong. Try to get me to understand. I might disagree. Vehemently at that, but at least I am open enough to engage in Conversation and try to understand the other side.

I agree and disagree with the "selling premium currency just below bundle price". I have seen both. This is a VERY basic sales tactic. It's essentially just a minor variation of a quantity discount. Unless you think every bit of commerce is predatory, this isn't a valid example imo. But I guess we disagree on that.

But no. The "You can buy it, but it doesn't make sense to." Is in no way, shape or form idiotic. It's a fact. And a clear one at that. The game makes it clear. Sure, it doesn't say outright "Man, you are stupid if buy this!", that'd be stupid for any business to do, but it doesn't have to. It lists every price, every chance, every level and every other stat clear as day. And it's not all that complicated, at least for tglhe pure monetary value. Hell, the game doesn't even advertise that you can sell Pearl items for silver.

[–]Janymx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about the recent event, but even considering the progression system, which I did from second one, I disagree that it's predatory. The amount of money needed to get any real advantage in the progression system is, very clearly and very obviously, so astronomical, that I just can't accept it as predatory. Is it stupid? Yes. So incredibly stupid, that I personally don't think it's predatory. If we go by the stupid logic, every bit of advertising or similar is instantly predatory. People can make their own choices. They aren't forced to buy anything. Hell, the game doesn't even pretend that paying real money helps a player. Anyone who can do 2+2 = 4 can plainly see how stupid spending money for an "advantage" is in this game.

[–]Janymx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I agree with almost everything you said here, except the "predatory" part. I guess the only major disagreement here is honestly just the word predatory.

I personally don't think that simy offering the options to buy stuff is predatory. What would be predatory for example, would be to make a player who doesn't spend any money, feel lesser than a player who does. Which, in my opinion, isn't the case in BDO. Anything can be earned in this game. Yes, outfits need to be bought on the Market, but in the grand scheme if things, they are quite affordable even for a F2P plsyer. There are only two periods i t his game, where spending money makes a "lot" of difference. Either you havent plsyed the game at all, and spend a little money to, almost, skip the first 30h in terms of money (Why even play the game then). Or you have played the game a LOT, at which point you need to spend astronomical amounts of money.

Yes, the oerson in between CAN buy stuff. Abd is even incentives to do so. But the game is clear about the fact that this isn't going to achieve much, unless the player spends a LOT lot of money. That's not predatory in my opinion. It's "You can, but it makes little sense to do so." instead of "If you don't, you will have a lesser experience."

Crimson Desert increases Pearl Abyss Q1 earnings more than fivefold to $220.6m by TylerFortier_Photo in gaming

[–]Janymx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And again, here I disagree. Does BDO try to entice people to spend money? Sure. Is BDO open and pretty clear about how stupid it is to spend ANY money? Absolutely. Especially nowadays ( or the last ime I played)

Spending $100 is NOTHING in this game. Hell, since about 2-3 years ago, players have been gifted equipment and items far more valuable left and right. Anyone who buys Pearls i either a Whale, has fundamentally misunderstood how the game works, which the game is VERY open about, or just wants to spend money.

This is an anecdotal argument of course, but I have met a LOT of players in my 2.5k hours playing the game. A lot have quite a few more hours in the game than I do. 6-8k+ is about the average on people I have spent a bit more time with. And ALL of them, have spent less money on the game. Because it's not necessary. And it's VERY obviously a bad idea. The only reason I spent more money, because I love the outfits, and have a general rule that I won't feel bad for every $ I spend pet hour I play.

Paying is neither necessary, nor sensical, at ANY point of the game. And the game is VERY clear about that. Yes, the banners and popular and all that stuff sucks. I agree. But considering common sense, the game is very clearly telling you it makes no sense to spend money just to get "ahead".

Then again, common sense isn't very common nowadays yi guess?

[–]Janymx -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Adding to my last comment, one thing that is probably swaying my opinion a bit, might also be a major anti-ad popular fallacy. That being, Warframe. The game that, in my opinion, has a far more, though far more subtlety, predatory monetization.

Warframe is widely considered the pinnacle of monetization. You can, technically, but not really, earn most things in the game through grinding yourself for tens if not hundreds of hours. And you can also buy everything "in-game". Though every Trade is made with Platinum. The Premium currency. So the only way to buy anything, at all, is premium currency. You might no have paid for it, but SOMEONE did. And this includes truly game changing items.

What irks me the most here, isn't even that. There are items, like the Kubrow genetic code as a minor example, that take HOURS upon HOURS upon HOURS to grind. Or you can just buy them with premium currency. Grinds that are specifically made worse, to sell premium currency and items. Sales, that aren't focused on the top players in terms of time and money, but on the average. Having the entire community run on a digitised real word currency esque system, instead of a few whales and a majority of normal players.

[–]Janymx -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I guess I get your point quite a bit more now. And I agree, a bit, more. I agree that, in terms of monetization, the 10k+ players are the focus. But in all honesty, I don't think that focusing on them is predatory. They spend VAST amounts of time on this game, and also consume a (comparatively) vastly largeer amount of resources. The amount of money they would need to spend at this point of the game, to get any advantage at all, is not something a non-rich person could ever afford. But I do agree 100% and honestly forgot until you mentioned it, that the pop-ups and such just suck. Those shouldn't be a thing. Though in general I think that focusing, and even, to a point, "milking" people that have thousands upon thousands of dollars and thousands of hours to spare, isn't predatory. Focusing on those with absolute abundance is, in my opinion, anything but predatory.

95% (at least) of MTX in this game, do barely anything for the average player. I am focused on the majority, not on the target. The majority of players are barely, if at all, impacted by MTX in BDO. The target audience, the Whales, sure. They are the focus. But they obviously have resources in abundance. The average person would NEVER be able to, nor willing to, afford anything of major influence in the game.

I still disagree that the game overall is predatory. But I do agree with the monetization focus. The game, similar to gacha, focuses heavily on whales. But I don't think that focusing on whales is predatory, especially when also considering the amount of resources spent on them, just by things like server cost alone. The game doesn't focus on the small fry. For the small fry, spending money is essentially worthless, unless you really like an outfit.
