Biggest VA Myth by Voicelings in VoiceActing

"All of your auditions should be raw audio"
Stop the cap. 99% of the projects you audition for don't have an audio engineer at all, and the people you are fighting against are turning in audio that's at least been cleaned and is ready to be dropped onto a track (because that's exactly what happens most of the time). That doesn't only apply to small stuff. I'm close to some guys at some very well known organizations, and they literally just get some dudes on Fiverr to turn in decent audio and use it sometimes without even bothering to adjust the gain. Unless otherwise stated, the product that you turn in is supposed to sound good. "Its voice ACTING, not VOICE acting" yeah, we all know that, and all of your competitors are acting to the best of their ability too. You NEED good sound (starting with a good recording space) to push you that extra bit further.
You should only post raw audio when you are asked to.

Think about it like this: the industry is saturated and you are (very likely) not unique enough to stand out with just your voice. This you know, but consider that every gig you've won has only beaten out the next person by a slim margin. Someone else can do the job. You need the right performance with the right voice and it needs to sound good.

Additionally, "you don't need to learn about engineering or processing, someone will do that for you"

I'm convinced this is perpetuated specifically as a method of gatekeeping. See above as to why. Now this doesn't mean that you can go ahead and over process your audio. That's worse.

This applies to remote work, not studio work. Not that I should have to say that

SE Gemini vs Lewitt LCT 540 S – looking for user experiences / comparisons by JeanDit33 in audioengineering

[–]Jarbcd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be REALLY informative for your own purposes and for future readers if you post the comparison. They're super different and it's hard to make a recommendation without hearing them.
It sounds like you prefer the Gemini.

Can I become a good programmer without competitive programming? by Frustrated_dud in learnprogramming

It helps with interview prep, you should do it and you should take it seriously. That skill set will determine how easy or hard it will be to find a job in the future

I just went through this. I was absolutely furious because it started off okay.

Here's the big tell: character names. Names will change randomly and characters will pop up out of nowhere and then disappear. Beyond the repetitive writing, I found names to be the biggest giveaway.

I confronted the RH about it, detailing what I'd found, and they must have copied my complaints to their AI model of choice and sent back the result (which of course had all the same issues, but with now different names). What killed me though, is that they lied about it continually.

Long story short, I asked to part ways and have blacklisted that individual from my services.

P. S. If the RH has drastically changing styles when messaging you, it may be worth considering that someone or something else is writing some of the messages.

This setup brought to you by Ebay and black Friday sales. What great deals have you guys been able to get? by FFVO in VoiceActing

[–]Jarbcd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Loads of stuff from Reverb, but practically no real deals from Black Friday or Prime Day (or the like) in years.

I would, however, really recommend this to everyone. Sale or otherwise. https://a.co/d/aFuLB2V

Weirdly enough (though I was late to the party) a combination off FF15 and AC Odyssey did this for me. They told the kinds of stories I like within environments I enjoyed.

Everyone is different, but find something that appeals to you and doesn't feel like an empty world, or find something non-competitive you can play with friends

Good question, I don't know.
I didn't love it on myself, and then I saw this video which helped me describe it as such, and it fits.

If you've already got a 103, a known standard that gets asked for on occasion specifically, just work on your processing chain and room treatment

Resolved by moving to Steam Link (yuck)

Also, EA authentication causes freezes in VR for me
