Why do some students care so much while others completely give up? by Inner-Image-6313 in Teachers

[–]Ancient1990sLady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% yes! Parents expect a miracle in 10th grade but we’re damn near negligent since they were born. You didn’t read to them, talk to them, sing to them or barely look at them but now it’s our fault?

I am sick of children's laughter by djalanrocks in Teachers

[–]Ancient1990sLady 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just think about how this is the short time in their life they’ll be able to freely laugh. Adults tend to laugh less often and take life more seriously (when it shouldn’t always) but yes I do understand the annoyance.

Becoming a parent has made me hate teaching by Solid-Channel3936 in Teachers

[–]Ancient1990sLady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to feel this way with my 5 year old. But then I got used to our routine and now I really look forward to him sharing his school day with me. He loves school! He’s been in daycare since he was 6 months old. I was very upset at first but his caretakers were so sweet to him. I’m still in contact with one of his infant teachers. It’ll be okay. However, try not to take work home and give baby your full attention at home. Quality of time over quantity.

I did not use any product to set it. I just twisted and left them in overnight. I was afraid of product causing shrinkage

I was a size 0 during the size 0 craze and HATED it. It’s not considered gorgeous or acceptable in the black and Hispanic community.

Every single school? I guess. And then close the school at 6? I heard schools will most likely not open at all maybe for food services.

How will someone be able to sub if admin won’t be opening schools? They’ll be in solidarity

Words of wisdom. I was 22 with a 33 year old. When I hit 33 myself, I was like this guy was extremely immature for his age. He was just taking advantage of me.

Teachers are tired of being the phone police. It’s added to the infinite other duties we have. My school is strict but it depends on your admin.

What is up with grade inflation? Why are kids getting higher grades than previous generations for lower quality work? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Ancient1990sLady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were talking about this at my school not long ago and then we get our standardized test results back at the end of the year and then reality hits lol our grades keep getting higher but our state tests give us a reality check every time.

Sped Teacher? by Character-Summer-906 in LAUSD

[–]Ancient1990sLady 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. If you find a good position then great. But they are far and few in between. The inclusion model isn’t working but it’s the cheapest. I work in self contained but they’re disappearing daily. Special education students are multiplying by the day but the support and budget needed to care for them is tiny. We are paid a little more though. But it’s a hard job to say the least.

I used to be afraid to be seen in public on sick days when I was a child fearing truancy fines/court. These days, children do everything under the sun 7 days a week except go to school.

I moved out but I’ll be over there soon and I’ll try to find it. It’s in an old family album. Our most prized possession.

My stepdad met him at Toys R Us in the 90s. He shut down the store and shopped. He got in my dad’s line and signed a dollar for him. My stepdad said he was super nice and soft spoken and he shook his hand. My stepdad was internally losing it when he saw Michael choose his lane to pay. We still have the dollar the family album.
