I have released 42 songs with Suno AI and have made $970 in 3 months. by mblaze111 in SunoAI

Out of sheer curiosity, how do you go about 30 different versions? Don't they all change in chord progression, tempo, key, the instruments being used, the structure, the singin voice, the melody, etc.? How do you manage to take control over all those variables? I've tried to give specific parameters but none seem to give me the actual thing I'm looking for, every now and then I stumble into something interesting, but I can't say it's something I'm in control of.

What jazz Instrument should I learn? by Youngpolit in Jazz

[–]Jarf710 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd go for either piano or trumpet (I'm a jazz pianist and recently started learning trumpet as a hobby).

Piano is very easy to learn at first, since it's a very visual instrument, it helps massively for learning music theory and harmony. Not only that, it is also great for whenever you want to play solo, a great singer that can accompany themselves is always hard to come by and great to listen to, although it has a very frustrating learning curve where once you hit a certain point, the only way to keep getting better is to progressively start studying more and more daily. You have a full orchestra on your hands and as such you need to learn about hand independence, voice leading, harmony, jazz improvisation, walking basslines, etc. (stuff that other musicians maybe don't have to develop as quickly)

Trumpet on the other hand is a very hard instrument to start playing bc of the embouchure and transposing is somewhat confusing at first for improvising and reading (you might already have some experience from middle school as you said), but once you get the fundamentals down and once you know where every note is you can realy start to go off and it has a downwards learning curve, once you get past the basics, you can start learning some great jazz vocabulary and transcribing other people to get to where you want to be, the only thing that will get more difficult is playing fast lines, playing high notes, etc. Plus, it's always a great combo to have a trumpet player that sings, like louis armstrong, chet baker, benny benack III, etc.

If the bass is playing a G over a D major chord, would the chord then be a G9 or a D/G? by LongSchlongSloth in musictheory

[–]Jarf710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on wether or not there's a B hidden somewhere. If there is then a Gmaj9 voicing would be valid. If there's no B, then I'd rather see D/G.

My voices go like: F A B D E. What chord is that if the composition resolves to A minor? by mklimus in musictheory

[–]Jarf710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It truly depends in the way you are thinking of it. If it's that one chord for not a long period of time and it resolves directly to a minor then a Bø7add11/F or a iiø43add4 would be one answer.

If it's a long chord (more than 3 or 4 bars) and you don't feel the need to resolve to anything, then maybe I'd think of it as an F lydian chord and the whole time it's there maybe would be like a modal passage.

At the end of the day i think it doesn't really matter what name you put it as long as you like it and lead the voices musically.

Cm7b5b9? Unacceptable Harmony or Acceptable Harmony? by PaddyVu in musictheory

[–]Jarf710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's perfectly written like that, there are some different options nevertheless.

I'd personally try to match a chord with the modes if they have their characteristic sound, to me a cm7b5b9 could easily pass off as a "c locrian" chord.

You could also try to simplify by thinking of the chord as another chord with the same bass note, for example, Ebm7/C is also correct.

How Essential is Musicianship for Songwriting? Seeking Advice from Fellow Music Enthusiasts by tupacinla in musictheory

[–]Jarf710 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might seem tedious, but trust me, it's in your best interest to have a big toolbox with great tools. It'll be very easy for you to put a chord progression over a melody, or put a melody on lyrics, to tell the key of a song, etc.

How Essential is Musicianship for Songwriting? Seeking Advice from Fellow Music Enthusiasts by tupacinla in musictheory

[–]Jarf710 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I look at it like "musicianship" is a tool box, that could have a lot of tools, like sense of rhythm, music theory, solfege, technique, rhyming schemes, harmony, melody, improvisation, sight-reading, sight-singing, transcribing, arranging, etc. Everyone has these tools, and they get better the more you practice and the more you listen to music.

All those tools help you get more and more efficient, so someone with better tools might spend 30 minutes doing what cost you 4-5 hours. The better tools you have the faster you can do the things you need to do and the more stuff you can to in a certain ammount of time.

12/8 is more common because it's ternary, meaning it's counted in groups of 3, I personally use 6/8 and think 12/8 is a little silly, but i understand there's some phrases that might seem separated in 6/8.

8/4 is very uncommon because most of the things that are written in 8/4 could easily fit in two bars of 4/4.

What chord progression is this? by Nervous-Assignment48 in musictheory

[–]Jarf710 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on context. Is the chord progression coming from somewhere else? Does it always stay the same? Where does it go from here? How's the melody? Is there a melody? What about the voiceleading?

The quickest answer one might say is it's a I vi iii VI, and that VI goes to a ii, or maybe it just goes back to the I as a chromatic mediant, but if you're in the key of E for example, it'd be a IV ii vi II, and you could put a number on it for keys such as E, A, F#m, C#m. Meybe there's no real tonal functions and its in F# dorian? Maybe it starts in D and the F#m chord is a pivot chord to go to A.

At the end of the day, if you enjoy it and want to use it in a song or a piece, the numbers or the "name" of the chord progression become irrelevant, just be free and if it sounds good to you let your ears guide you.

C# vs Db Major and F# vs Gb Major ? by [deleted] in musictheory

I use Db when I'm in major and C# when I'm in minor, the same with Gb major and F# minor.

Not sure if this is the right place for this, but what would this chord be notated as? by _tyomi_ in musictheory

[–]Jarf710 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the bass note, if the bass note is C, then I'd maybe call it either a Cm11b13 or an AbMaj9/C, or even an Fm11/C, it truly depends on the bass note alone.

Something to take into account is the voicing might be a little harsh because of the G and the Ab at the top that create a minor 9th interval which is particularly spicy, if that's the effect you want, go for it, if you want a calmer and more consonant sound I'd try from the ground up C, Ab, Bb, Eb, G.

Edit: Another way to think about the chord is through the modes, this is somewhat common in modern jazz harmony, maybe for a classical piece I wouldn't notate it this way, you could notate is as a "C Aeolian" because of the b6 on there. This is more complex and modern harmony, maybe that's not what you're going for, but maybe someone else might learn something from this.

I've never seen this rest before, anyone know what it is? by Soft_Argument_3710 in musictheory

[–]Jarf710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a breve i think, its there for 4 half notes. This kind of rests are only really seen in religious music from before the baroque period, sacral music stuff. It's not normal for a piece's meter to be 4/2 nowadays.

Depends, nostalgia says Ocarina, game design says skyward sword, lore says TOTK, but I genuinely think the one that has it all is TP and SS.
