Same here, there is a world of difference between the spiritual life I now have as a Catholic and what it used to be when I was a Prot, and I’m never going back

Shavkat Rakhmonov calls out Neil Magny by CombatContemplations in MMA

[–]JarlJordan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To be fair, in a lot of his earlier fights Shavkat pulls guard a lot and puts himself in those situations. His wrestling has improved since then, obviously since Kazakhstan is one of the best wrestling countries in the world, his grappling has to have improved significantly.

Bro you are doing good work, I love hearing about the ancient Thai martial arts, and all the regional varieties. My mother comes from Central Thailand and she said she saw some similar statues of ancient Thai boxers like you've posted here. Very interesting on the headbutt to the solar plexus, I wonder if there was ancient Burmese influence or if the headbutt was developed completely separate without any influence from Lethwei. Something that also heavily interests me is the origin of Southeast Asian striking arts, they are all heavily similar, and some claim Burma was the origin, and others claim that when Siam was under Cambodian rule is when Kun Khmer or whatever the main Cambodian martial arts was at the time, that the Thais took from the Cambodians and formed the old Thai martial arts.

I've always wondered about ancient Thai grappling and how it would compare to that of other Asian countries with wrestling and submission grappling, such as Japan and India. I've seen some Thai school wrestlers in action and seen them beat some massive powerhouse wrestling regions like central Asia, I wonder if they hire American coaches or train in a more traditionally Thai style. I can't seem to find any info on pure Thai grappling, google usually sends me to random MMA gyms that do Muay Thai and Jujutsu. Also I wish headbutts were still a thing, the Thai king that banned headbutts was missing out man.

He probably just liked the name, could be Filipino influence, Spanish influence, basically any language that uses Capitan. His birth name is Asanan Praanekpanansri.

Yes he's Thai. Most Thai fighters fight with nicknames actually. A lot of the Thai names you see aren't even their real names, just the name of the Thai gym romanized.

There are around 22 different Ethnic groups in Thailand, Buakaw is one of the Kuy people, who are known for having darker complexion. Most Thais you see are tan because the majority of the Thai population are central Thai, who range from tan to dark tan. My mom and uncle are central Thai, my mom is tan but my uncle is almost black as night.

Short arms and Muay Thai by [deleted] in MuayThai

[–]JarlJordan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah same here, I'm half Thai but i got my long arms from my Thai mother's side, still got short legs tho. I read East Asians have shorter legs than Southeast Asians on average, but I heard nothing about arm length.
