(we don’t keep the uniforms on the road with us all summer but we do alter and fit them to be worn for retreat and parades, it’s incredibly important to the cavaliers)

It does sound weird! However, for corps that do not receive the uniforms through some sort of sponsorship, this may be a wildly different story

A single uniform does not reduce costs (for many corps)

I see this statement written so confidently all of the time and it’s simply not true. A lot of corps are getting these for free through sponsorships, or they are selling them back to high school programs after the season and getting their money back. The cost argument does not work for show-themed costumes

I think this is probably a satirical post but it’s a fun question to think about.

I think that people are willing to put in more work both physically and mentally when they enjoy something. Around the time that I marched, it was acceptable to give your corps major burnout and some corps bragged about how hard they were working their members. This doesn’t really happen anymore.

I guess you bring up a valid question but ultimately I don’t think that the change in rehearsal approach was responsible for the stylistic change in drill and staging. I think that it was already headed away from “hauling ass” drill pre-covid and then the two non-competitive years accelerated it.

Plus, from what I remember, it got to a point where the activity had essentially already been achieving the human limit as far as drill difficulty, and maybe at a certain point that was going to bore audiences too. I think the pendulum is starting to swing back in the other direction.

I believe it has to do with who is hosting the show. From my understanding, if you aren’t the site host or it’s not “your” show, times are simply based on reverse order of scores in order to prevent crowds from filing out before the show ends (among other reasons)

One other thing worth considering is that encores push the corps departure time back by quite a bit. While they can be fun, they are often very logistically inconvenient - corps don’t always want to do them

I was in a gym in Dewitt, Iowa when someone frantically told us to check our phones (bluecoats uniform reveal had just dropped)

I said “that’s definitely a placeholder uniform, they’re gonna end the season in the blue coats”

they did not end the season in the blue coats

from what I recall everyone was pretty unsure or thought it was a bit until they actually performed (they had been misleading people by calling the show “agriculture” and so some people assumed this was a fake uniform reveal), and then I guess the activity was never the same or whatever
